In Astroknight's review of Devil in Miss Jones 6 he refers to a commentary. Seriously? Like the DVD extra they have with mainstream studios, where one or two or three people sort of narrate and comment on the movie all the way through? Seems like it.

Are there any other porn movies which have a commentary feature among the extras? Any best ones? Any suggestions?

A lot of the Jim Holliday movies from VCA. Obviously this is more common with movies made after DVD was around than with movies that were originally VHS only and were just transferred to DVD later.

To have a good audio commentary on a porn movie, IMO, you need at least 2 people on the commentary, and ideally at least one of them need to have been in the movie as a performer. And then you let them gossip about the other performers in the movie and reminisce about problems and bloopers they faced while making the movie. It's hard to get that with just the director talking all by himself. And I definitely prefer for the commentary to be for the whole length of the movie. I've seen some porn movies where the commentators only talk during the dialogue scenes and just play the original movie audio during the sex scenes. Hello, I can always turn the commentary off whenever I want, I don't need for you to shut up during the sex. If I'm going to watch the movie with the commentary on, I want to hear about how awkward that one position was, or how the decision to shoot the scene in such a manner was a last minute improvisation, etc.

Commentaries are basically a "must" for me to buy a DVD. I find it really interesting to hear about the issues and some of the opinions about people on the sets (mostly pro, but sometimes con).

Sadly, the computer where I had my complete wantlist of DVDs with commentaries died a few months ago and I've been having to recreate it with the help of this site. It's slow, but it's there. I really wish there was a way you could do a search for this feature. But maybe I'm one of the very few who's really interested in it.

And I agree with the poster who dislikes having the commentary turned off during the sex scenes. The first DVD with commentary I ever saw was "Misty Beethoven: the Musical" and I thought it was really interesting hearing Veronica Hart & Chloe talk while people were fucking on screen and then commenting on the cumshots or their bodies or dicksizes or whatever. Thankfully, most Wicked & VCA movies that I've bought encourage their people to talk all the way through (although it sometimes presents a problem when the commentary is on a classic movie and the people talking are looking at things they did 20-30 years ago. They seem to get silent with nostalgia). Sin City is the worst about shutting up during the sex (and having a sync problem with the dialogue when you're listening to the commentary track). Adam & Eve might also have this issue, but the only movie I have from them is "Rawhide", so maybe it's a 1-movie thing.

A lot of Wicked and VCA pictures have them. I have ran across a few from Private also.

Wicked, older VCA titles, and some of the big Adam & Eve and Digital Playground titles have commentaries. Normally the bigger the group, the better the commentary. Wicked brings out a big group for a few releases a year (the Space Nuts commentary is good enough to pick the DVD up just for it, but the Jonathan Morgan / Serenity commentaries are a complete hoot!), and the few releases a year DP includes a commentary on are just as good (Island Fever 4 's commentary was one of my favorite parts of the entire release). For VCA, continue to check out the Passolini commentaries because you never know what the heck he'll do. Veronica Hart also has some great commentaries. If you do a keyword search in the reviews for "commentary" you should get a very nice list of titles with commentaries.

Thanks very much for all replies. I'm surprised I haven't encountered even one movie with a commentary. I mainly watch gonzo style, so maybe that's part of it. Maybe they don't as commonly format movies for Australian release with commentaries?

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the recommendations and suggestions. I now have a lot of leads to run with and find some movies with commentaries, and I'll order them through the net rather than get Aus releases.

Are we talking Adultshop.com.au or axis shop releases? They butcher movies any way they see fit to get them onto the disc. Apparently you can fit less onto a DVD in PAL format than NTSC. The commentary I imagine would be one of the first things to go.

I haven't bought DVDs through either site. Until now I've only bought through local adult shops. I wondered if the Aus distributors chopped the DVDs for some reason, and you might be right that it's simply a limitation of format. But I wondered if it might also be some weird censorship decision - too much for our tender ears to hear a porn star joking about fitting Lexington's pole up her rear. I think in the International Shopping Forum someone said that Private releases, for instance, are more edited here than in the US.
