What is the easiest and cheapest way to convert a wav file to mp3? I thought Windows had something that could be used at some point, but I haven't poked around.

Usually there is some conversion utility that comes with your sound card software.

I've used Blade a few times.
Do you mind working at the command line though? It is a very basic utility type program. I think there are some free front ends out there for it, but I never bothered with that stuff.
As a matter of fact, I'm vaguely remembering.... I think you can use Windows Explorer and drag-n-drop a .wav file on the blade executable, and it will run that way too.

Well, there are quite a few free solutions. I don't have a list. I use CDex most of the time. It's quite simple to use and free (last time I checked).
