| reader1 Member Vancuver, BC, Canada 18 Posts 8/00 | I am interested in purchasing "Bottom Dweller" and "Week & 1/2 in the Life of a Prostitute". I have seen clips posted on Usenet, and the action is intense (especially Tricia's scenes). And Rob Black is one of my favorite directors. However, I am hestitant because my previous experience with Elegant Angel DVDs wasn't good. Gangbang Angel #1 was censored. The slapping scene was cut entirely, and the riming scene was shortened, and someone else had reported that other bits were missing as well. I had to return it to my vendor for another title. Has anyone seen these 2 DVDs, are they completely intact? [Link] |

They can edit it down to 5 minutes and release it on a DVD, and it would be entirely within their right. But the issue is one of credibility. Once Elegant Angel censors one title without warning the consumer, how can we be sure about their other titles. I have been avoiding their DVDs ever since, but some of their titles are really good. I do want to purchase "Cellar Dweller" and "Week & 1/2 in the Life of a Prostitute", but only if they are intact. |

I saw at most one porno per year on VHS and slightly more than that on watered-down hotel pay-per-view feeds. When I watch something on DVD I have no previous knowledege of what the movie may have been at one point in time. Do I miss the scenes that I don't know about? Nope. Do I enjoy the movie anyway? Maybe. (Unless the butcher's work is so incredibly obvious as in [url=467155]Country Comfort</A.) I agree that arming the consumer with this type of info is very important but to what extent does it affect people's buying decisions? For me porn is like going to a movie theater. I ask myself "Was this flick worth the price of admission?" Sometimes it is as a matinee but I feel ripped off if I paid full price for the evening show. Sometimes I just wait until Hollywood Video has it in stock based on reviews I've read. How many people are slowly converting their VHS porn collections to DVD? It's this group that I think would be most affected/pissed off by edits. [This message has been edited by Drew Black (edited August 14, 2000).] |
| reader1 Member Vancuver, BC, Canada 18 Posts 8/00 | I have just over 40 DVDs in my collection now, and I know that every one of them is intact. As a matter of principle, I will not keep any that are censored, and I will also try to steer clear of companies that do this. Vivid is on my boycott list ... when I check the list of new releases, I skip their titles entirely. |
| The Wanderer All-Star Member 192 Posts 6/00 | I completely agree with you. There is a principle involved here and I won't buy Vivid or any other edited/censored DVDs for the same reasons you outlined. All I would ask from porn studios is that they show some honesty and include a note on the sleeve stating that the contents have been changed. I don't expect precise details on the nature of each cut, just something there as advice to the consumer. If edits really don't make any difference to DVD sales, why do some distributors continue trying to deceive people in this way? |

I'm no porn expert and wouldn't know if a scene was deleted or not. I would want to present accurate info. Torris: Drew, I would be very careful about doing this. I think your intention is well grounded and admirable, but this could get you on an "enemies" list and I don't doubt that these companies can exert some really nasty pressure on you from the store advertising level if they ever chose to get "medieval on your ass". They're that petty and you don't want doors shut to you over this, especially since you and Steph esp have cultivated some really great relationships with performers, sales companies and porn production companies. Let a consumer maintain the list and hopefully from time to time they will post a messsage when appropriate to *their* site. |
| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8011 Posts 9/99 | I do think that an edits list can be presented in a very objective format. Much of what I have seen out there is very biased. I don't think that we would be able to provode the level of objectivity required for an edits list simply because we aren't experts. We would be relying on input from many third-party sources. That type of data wouldn't provide the objectivity we would need to do a list properly. [This message has been edited by Drew Black (edited August 15, 2000).] |
| reader1 Member Vancuver, BC, Canada 18 Posts 8/00 | As to whether something is censored or not, I think it's very clear cut. If something is on the VHS copy and not on the DVD, then it's been censored. It's entirely possible that the VHS itself is censored (for example, Max Hardcore's American releases vs. Euro ones), but I believe that's a different issue. |
| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8011 Posts 9/99 | Example 1: The __________ (fill in description of scene) with Actor A and Actor B is completely missing. This scene began at mm:ss and ended at hh:mm in the VHS. It's not in the DVD. Example 2: Watch out people! These guys are out to fuck you again! Dont' waste your hard earned dollars with these con men! They suck! Boycott studio X for misleading the consumer. The awesome quadruple penetration, A2M super-soaker scene scene has been cut. It's the one where actors A,B,C and D paint actor E's face with their spew to make her look like like the seagull shit covering the Rock of Gibraltar. How could they do this? It's an outrage! |
