Does Erodvd.nl ships to Canada?
The "About Us" page said free shipping. Do they really ship free to Canada?
Any other reliable/safe Euro stores?

They ship worldwide for free.
Do a search in this forum, you'll see that most people are happy, some are not though...
Never had any serious problems myself, I ordered numerous times from them over the last eight years or so, from three different countries : UK, Australia and France.

Thank you for the shipping information.
I'm not a video expert, I believe these European DVDs are in a different format.
Can these European DVDs be played in my Region 1 (USA/Canada) dvd player?
- On a laptop?
- On a standalone DVD player?

Depends on the DVDs, some are multizone, some are not, some are NTSC some are PAL.
DVD region code on Wikipedia.
On a computer not too much of a problem if you have software such as VLC.
On a standalone player, make sure it can read PAL and NTSC and is multizone capable... There might also be issues with your TV.

You can get region free players that convert PAL to NTSC to avoid problems with your TV. If you look around at American sites that sell foreign DVDs many offer players like this on their site and if you do your research you'll find that many sold in US stores can be modified to work with a simple combination of buttons being pressed on the remote.

  • Standalone DVD player

  • Oh boy, too troublesome for this option. I'll pass this option for now, not unless I have extra cash to buy DVD player and TV that can convert PAL to NTSC etc.
  • Computer

  • Is that the VLC Media Player from VideoLan? Just to confirm, if I have VLC Media Player, can I watch the European movie on my computer?

Thanks, guys.

Yes.
Was only mentioning that because with some players, like Apple DVD Player, you have to choose one zone and can't change the setting later on. So if you pick zone 1, you can't play zone 2 DVDs.

On playing European DVD on the computer (region 1).
Looks like I need to worry about 2 things:

  • PAL

  • From this post, I understand this is not an issue if played on the computer using a player like VLC Media Player
  • Region code

  • If the DVD is region 0, then no issue, I'm all set to watch the European DVD on the computer.
If the DVD is region 2, then I may not be able to watch the DVD. My computer takes the default setting which is region 1 at the moment.

Thanks!

Not with VLC, that's why I recommend using it. With VLC you can watch all the zones, no problem.
I'm sure that there are other programs doing the same thing, but VLC is very good, free and available for multiple platforms (Mac, PC, etc...).

Most porn is region free, so that would rarely be a problem. The only porn I have ever encountered with a region code were some Amercian DVD's with region code 1. Never found a porn DVD with region code 2. The PAL/NTSC thing is the main problem for Americans buying European DVD's.

All Blue One DVDs are zone 2 only.
I think there are other studios, I'll check, but it's true 98% of the time porn DVDs are zone 0.

Colmax are another studio making zone 2 porn DVDs (at least some of their production is zone 2, I have seen a few listed as zone 0).

The US porn classics from Wild Side Video are also zone 2.

I didn't know about Colmax, but their site does not mention what zone they are. But I do not pay very much attention to zones, as every DVD-player I ever owned was region free and I would not even know where to buy a non-region-free one over here.

I didn't know VLC can play multi-regions. All my DVDs are either region 0 or 1. I think I should be able to watch the German DVDs from Erodvd.nl.
Thank you for the information.

I thought I saw "Region 2" in the box art from Erodvd.nl, which is why I asked.
But I could be wrong, the words were all in German and I don't read German.
And VLC plays multi-region, so if it is really region 2, that should not be a problem.

I was just browsing, I can't remember the title. I tried looking for it again and could not find it. That's ok, it wasn't something I was looking in particular.
Thanks for your insight.
