They have options for WMP, DivX, and iTunes/mp4, though I don’t know what availability is like for each format. I just looked at two titles, and one was available in all 3, while the other lacked DivX. I also didn’t check into the bitrates/resolutions. But here’s what I know: the WMP and DivX will have DRM (i.e. copy protection). There are a lot of devices, including DVD players and the PS3, that will let you activate your DivX account and play DRMed DivX files, so it may be a good option if you want to get movies onto your TV and don’t have a computer hooked up to it. DivX DRM should work on a Mac or Windows box. I don’t know much about WMP because I’m a Mac user and I don’t think there’s any way to play protected WMP content on a Mac. But there may be other non-PC devices that will do it. The iTunes/mp4 files are almost certainly not copy-protected, since the only DRM iTunes handles is the kind that comes directly from the iTunes store. This means that these files can be played on anything that can handle mp4, or transcoded (say, using Handbrake) to other formats. They also seem to be half the price of the other options, which makes me wonder if the mp4 files are of lower bitrate & resolution than the other options. Hope that helped. [Link] |
