I was a customer of excaliburfilms.com for a while. Over the past years, the service has gone south. So, I decided to go to wantedlist.com. When I emailed wantedlist.com, they said that rumor in the industry is that excaliburfilms.com is going out of business. Anybody know if this is true? Has the recession really hurt them? Or just their services? Jeff
Would not be surprised if they go out of business. They've appeared on Adultdvdmarketplace. Why else would an industry giant go thru a third part? Excalibur/Barely Used customer service has definitely declined.
Used to love them, can't stand them anymore. It's really gone to hell with how unclear the website is on new vs used/incomplete, and customer support is nonexisting. It's pretty much a "We don't care, go away."
As a former employee of excalibur films, I can say for sure that they are starting to go out of business. I still talk to employees that work at excalibur and various things have occurred which leads them all to believe the company is about to go under. As far as the recession, that is not the reason the company has sunk. It was because of the self centered owner Jerry. He took a gold mine and made it into a lump of coal within the past two years. He refuses to listen to his employees, employees that have more skills and knowledge than him. Why hire employees if you going to tell them how to do their job? I left right after they lost their rankings in google. Those in the web department figured out how to get their ranking back but he ignored them. What has happened now... the lost customers and new customers and they do not exist in google. look at the numbers because they suck. I wont be surprised if they all come into work on a monday and there is a closed for business sign on the door. How ethical is Jerry.. he wont even tell his employees. former excalibur films employee
Their issues haven't existed for just 2 years. Seven or eight years ago, back when I had a DVD player that wouldn't play DVD-Rs I bought an Excalibur exclusive disc that turned out to be a DVD-R. I had to fight for months to finally get my money back on it as every time I returned it stating that I couldn't play a DVD-R I received an e-mail telling me that they weren't DVD-Rs and another copy would show up in the mail. It was an awful experience.
I wonder if jeffthepcguru is the same jeff as jeff@moviefilmfest.com sending me endless e-mail solicitations on behalf of Excalibur? I found Excalibur extremely annoying to try to do business with. There are too many great online porn retailers and rental services, than to need to suffer with Excalibur.
I have ordered there also some time, great classics but I also received DVD-R. This is ridiculus paying money for DVD-R. But I ordered from dvd empire one time it was not a classic and it came on DVD-R also. I'm a collecteur, I want a real product.
There are studios that use DVD-R's as the final product. At DVD Empire we only sell the official studio releases, we do not burn content to DVD-R's and resell it.
i was a huge customer from the early to mid 00's, and thought their dvd-rs were great (provided the source was too, typically releases that were originally shot-on-films; otherwise you can't polish a turd), it seemed they always had the best source available (contrary to Alpha Blue Archives, who take pride in often releasing the worst source available). When you compare their version of Flesh Dance with the Gourmet dvd released a couple years ago, the Excalibur dvd-r looks better.
However, something strange happened one day: i got an email stating that i had to pay for my account renewal, in other words i had to pay to place all subsequent orders. That Kafka thing was too much for me. Too bad. Edited by - wodgers on 9/1/2009 11:00:01 AM
I don't have a problem, per se, with DVD-Rs. Provided... (a) That we are told upfront (b) It is a legal product (c) If it wasn't for the DVD-R, the product wouldn't be available at all I create my own DVD-Rs all the time (personal stroke comps), and I have never had a disk go bad (after it was burned successfully). Many are already more than five years old. Of course, I burn all my DVD-Rs slowly (currently at 6x), and don't try to crank them out at the fastest speeds possible. Also, I'm checking every finished disk (something I doubt the companies selling product on DVD-R are doing).
actually, not a single dvd-r i received from them was defective: i still play all of them now (4 to 7 years old). In other words, give me an Excalibur dvd-r anytime over a Caballero dvd (can't play on my computer 4 times out of 5)) Edited by - wodgers on 9/1/2009 12:06:19 PM
Have purchased a LOT of titles from Excalibur/Barelyused. Many have been DVD=R's. Especially much older and more difficult to locate classics. All have played perfect with the exception of a handful bought from "Barelyused". Some of which appeared to have been treated like a hockey puck. Their horribly slow shipping and recent non-existing customer service has driven me away for good.
I was gonna order "The 8th Day" from Xonair when they had it preorder for like $20, but they would not ship to Virginia, although I have no other companies that I buy from refuse to ship to VA. So I looked around and saw that Excalibur had it for about the same price, so I preordered it. Well the day it came out, the site listed the dvd as not available in any warehouses and was on backorder. Been a week and still on order. I thought that when you preorder, you are reserved a copy, but I guess that is not the case with Excalibur. Almost all of the stuff they even listed on ADM, when checked against the website inventory, stated that it is not in stock. This is not a good way to run a business. So far I am not impressed and have to continue to wait to watch a highly anticipated movie:( This is probably my last order with them. EMS providers for ALT Porn!!!!
Don't feel bad, I pre-ordered it through Xonair when they had it for $20 and they haven't shipped it yet, despite the fact they've shown it as available for a while. I sent an e-mail yesterday asking why it hasn't and I'm hoping I will hear back soon.
Well, don't feel bad at all. Xonair isn't honoring any of the pre-orders of The 8th Day for that price. They are requiring an additional $16.00 to ship them now. This was going to be my first order through them. I doubt I will use them again in the future.
i could finally register again for free, via the moviefilmfest page, that allowed me to enter a new pw without having to pay for membership renewal (unlike the excalibur pages that i visted a few weeks ago). Even my 4-year old wishlist was still there. Makes no sense, but everything is back on track.Since i'm mainly interested in their exclusive(?) movies (from Wet, Essex, Hollywood etc..) and noticed that 99% of them are available either for $4.44 from Excalibur or 50 cents less from BarelyUsed, would you recommend to stick to the "new" disc/ Excalibur route? Thanks
I did finally get my copy of "The 8th Day" today. I sent them an email about 2 weeks ago and it took them over a week to email me back about what was taking so long. But they did honor their cheap price and shipped what they said. They were very slow and blamed adam & eve for delaying shipment, but in the end I got what I ordered. Also I would order it new if it is not that much price difference, because they usually do not send cases or artwork with the used dvds they sell. EMS providers for ALT Porn!!!!
I've had the same opinion about them for a while now. They aren't nearly as popular as they once were, and this has been the case for at least 2 years.
I just received my order: to be fair, they shipped it fast (US to France, IIRC they were slower back in the days) and all the discs, DVD-Rs from the classics they license exclusively, not only play fine, but the picture quality is the best possible (looking grea on Essex and Caballero stuff, for instance). I'm assuming they use the best source possible - the anti Alpha Blue Archives, if you will. Edited by - wodgers on 10/13/2009 4:55:09 PM
Me too. The last 2 movies I ordered from Excalibur wouldn't play in my NEW DVD player. What's that crap? I had that problem with Netflix but my new player handled those OK. Excalibut, no
Is there another site like Excaliburfilms that shows large front and back covers jpegs for free? It is really helpful for me in determining whether or not to buy specific DVDs.
Someone above wrote "I don't have a problem, per se, with DVD-Rs. Provided... (a) That we are told upfront (b) It is a legal product (c) If it wasn't for the DVD-R, the product wouldn't be available at all" I'm in full agreement with those statements. It's too bad if they are on the way out. But my last order with them was perfect (4 or 5 months ago). I hope someone takes them over, follows the above conditions and keeps the rare classics available perhaps at somewhat higher prices. I remember not ordering some titles on my list thinking "That's too cheap, got to be a poor version!" Someone else was asking who has front and back box cover pics on line. Videocanada.com has them available nice and big too. Of course only if they handle the title. I use them because I'm here but also consult their. site to narrow down a title
I,too, have finally just about had it with Excalibur. Now, they've eliminated their Exchange Program and have switched to different rental deals. Their Single ("A La Carte") rentals cost the same as their Exchanges used to -- _except_ that you only get _5 days_ to view them (Exchange let you keep them as long as you wanted). Their "Subscription" Rentals involve the usual monthly charge depending on how many discs you want to have at one time. _However_, if you're a lover of the "Classics," like me, you'll find that literally, almost without exception, these titles are listed as "Check Stock" -- which really means "Out of Stock." So if you opt for one of the "Subscription" rental deals, it means they'll be charging you on a monthly basis while you _wait_ for your Classic titles to be back in stock -- which will probably be never! What a #$%&-ing rip! Therefore, I'd appreciate some guidance from the members as to which other Rental outfits (A) have the greatest number of Classic titles on a usually "ready-to-ship" basis, and (B) provide the best value and level of customer service. Excalibur's loss will be at least one of their gains!
Talking to those in the adult industry, Excalibur is having a difficult time paying various companies. They changed ownership a year ago and things have gotten worse. I would avoid them. Plus, there are better sites to purchase from with better customer service and actually having movies in stock. Edited by - mk8 on 2/2/2011 10:54:47 AM

I'll share a recent experience with Excalibur. February 17th of this year, I placed an order through Excalibur for Massive Facials 4, and paid a little extra for UPS 3-5 day. Their inventory status was that the movie was in transit to our warehouse, and usually ships within 1-3 days. 2/28 I sent them an email as my DVD had not arrived, and my order status was still listed as 'processing' after 7 business days. I never received a reply, yet the next day the inventory status on the title change to extended backorder, which could take over a month. 2/29 I called them, and finally got through to someone after 7 attempts. I cancelled my order, and was told it could take 7-10 days for a refund to appear on my card. 3/8 I called them again, concerned that I had not yet received a refund, and my order was still listed as processing on their sight. I was informed this was normal, and told to have a nice day. As of today, 3/13, I still have not seen a refund. Several years ago, I was a regular customer with Excalibur, and purchased dozens of DVDs through them with only 1 or 2 minor issues. I wish I had done a little reasearch before dealing with them again, as my negative experience is similar to several others listed on this site and elsewhere on the internet. It's unfortunate that this company is linked to so many titles on IAFD. It's easy to shrug it off as only one customer and one sale, but ultimately, Elegant Angel lost a sale because of Excalibur's ineptitude and indifference towards communication, integrity, and the customer. I would disourage anyone from dealing with Excalibur. It shouldn't be that difficult to purchase a new title just two and a half months after its release. The decline of physical media is undeniable, but there will always be a demand. It's a shame the industry has to take friendly fire from retailers who have just stopped caring.
I used to think EXCALIBUR was a great company (it still might be) but my main complaint with them is the whole "backorder" and not instock thing. It's almost a crap shoot if you order something they don't have in inventory because it could take weeks or months to show up or never show up at all. They might have something listed as in stock or that it's a 2 to 5 day wait and after you order it suddenly you find out you might have to wait 3 weeks or more or they aren't able to get it at all. And at least on their site they have something to let you know how much of a wait to expect but the sell DVDs on ADULTMARKETPLACE without telling you they don't have the movie in stock. My last straw with them was after waiting a month for a DVD for a DVD I ordered they had listed on ADULTMARKETPLACE they email me they won't be able to get it and pick another movie. I picked another movie. After a week I don't get a movie or email. i email them back and ask wat happened. They said the movie I picked was 3 dollars more than the original one I picked (I think the used version was the same price as the original movie) and they said I needed to a movie for the same price or get a refund...my choice. I very calmly wrote back and said that after being a customer for years and and spending hundreds of dollars with them if they feel the time they made my wait for a movie they were supposed to have in stock wasn't worth the 3 dollar difference to them to send me a refund...their choice. They chose to refund me and I haven't and won't buy from them again. Besides the uncertainty of when/if your order will show their prices aren't that much better than most other companies these days anyway. The "lowest price" claim they used to have stopped being true long ago. Plus the price between "used" movies and new movies was becoming less and less. EXCALIBUR might not be a bad company but my feelings about how they do things only got worse over time.
I will never buy anything from "Pink Visual", the performers on the cover are not the same in the movie! How can we trust them?. This probleme never happened when you buy movie from : "Jules Jordan Productions", "West Coast Productions",or Adam & Eve ect...
Why Excaliburs films charge your credit card before they send you a dvd? is it legal? and if they send you anything, you have to wait at least more then one month...the big question is why Excaliburs films have a great service before ( 4 years ago), and not now ???
its very sad - i have been using them since the 80s

Ordered a few classics from them recently based on feedback about their having rare classics. They filled order in 2 days, which was pretty good considering 7 out of print titles. They did appear to be the only ones with them. The DVD-R issue not bad because I have a newer player. I hope this is more of a reflection of improving service.
Something is definitively going on. When they were in Fullerton CA it only took them seven to ten days to ship my product. Since they moved it takes much longer. For instance I ordered on April 30th, and here is is June 14th and still have not received my order! And they still owe me a few movies on "back order" from a previous order!

Good overall experience. Found rare titles for lower price than other sites that I received within 3 days of ordering. I'd recommend their service. Seems like a good company based on my experience.
They have not responded to my e mails and once I get my order or refund I am done with them (I suspect i will get neither!) it is a shame because I have purchased many titles over the years and been a good customer.
Nobody cares about the rare, old titles. Excalibur takes for ever to ship your orders. From what I heard, they are behind on various producers in regards to invoices... even the big ones. Because of this, it can takes weeks for your order to ship. Years ago, orders shipped within a couple days... now, a couples weeks if your are lucky.
Here is the kicker on cancelling your order. You have to wait three weeks or you are hit with a restocking fee. Makes no sense. The movie is not in stock, but you are hit with a re stocking fee. No other company in the industry does this.
When they actually have the title in stock there isn't any problem because they simply have to pull it and ship it. I suspect the type of older titles you ordered were titles that were in stock because they were DVD-R copies they can just make at any time. Things become tricky or a hassle when they have to order titles because they don't have them in stock. Once upon a time they used to stock a lot more movies. Now it seems they don't stock as much and order them as needed. With things the way they re now I can understand doing that but it just leads to having their customers wait until the title comes to them so they can ship it. And for some reason there can be long waits until they get the movie and the customer gets nothing for their patience. My thinking is why put up with waiting/hoping the title will come when there are so many other places to get movies promptly for better prices? Yes, they offer hard to find titles but oterwise I just don't see any advantage in ordering from EXCALIBUR these days. I'm sure they have happy and loyal customers but for me personally I just don't like the way they do things.

Forgive me for saying something good about them. So far three orders placed and all were a good experience. It is a little scary that it seems the same few people jump when a nice post is put in. It's stated above that they're having trouble paying vendors, take too long to ship, etc. How would you know that stuff unless you work there. Ok Big Brother... I'll put in a few more orders and get back to you with a report. I'll try newer stuff. Thanks for the tough love.
I'm glad to hear you have something good to say about them and I hope you continue to get good service from them. My personal experiences with them are from the past so perhaps the're better now. And yeah, I've stated my opinions multiple times so I do think it's time for me to give it a rest, even though I thought I was dong a good thing explaining why I thought you're experience was different than the others and actually being the person who encouraged you to order classic movies from them. So unless I'm personally asked something I have nothing more to say about EXCALIBUR that's good or bad. I don't want to come across as beating up on the company when they might've turned things around and at this point I'm beating a dead horse with my opinions.

A good friend of mine is having a lot of trouble with Excalibur right now. The problem? They DO NOT reply to simple email questions period. Nothing. Silence. Zip. He placed an order for a little over $100 worth of DVDs through PayPal. They debited the money from his PayPal. 1) They issued no email invoice/receipt to him 2) They have provided no form of acknowledgment to him whatsoever after he placed his order 3) He has emailed them about 5 times with NO reply 4) The only reply he has received is through the PayPal website stating that they (Excalibur) are having trouble sourcing the titles for him 5) He has been provided with no cutomer ID or customer login details so he has no way of knowing what the hell is going on with his order! Dispute raised with PayPal. AVOID EXCALIBUR LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEY SUCK BIG TIME. They don't have bad customer service. Worse. They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL except when forced into a corner via PayPal. DO NOT PLACE AN ORDER THROUGH THIS COMPANY!

They just underwent a big change in their internet provider. I had same issue and called. They walked me through their improvements and identified that I had to update them in my AOL contacts. Emails that followed were fine. Plus is that their site is much faster. Good effort on their part but these things always have a transition where the new IP gets picked up and search engines and emails have to also be recognized by Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc as not being spam. Emails have changed... no more @moviefilmfest.com. Everything is now @excaliburfilms.com. For example, customer service is now customerservice@excaliburfilms.com. Hope this helps.
