Perhaps you closed your session on a nonmaximized popup and your system is keeping this as it's memorized page size.
Try manually expanding your small window to full screen (use the mouse & pointer not the button).
This happens to me once in a while and this is how I fix it.

Not sure if this was the solution I finally found , but it's worth trying . Open one or more pages as new windows , then maximize them manually as Baronorca suggested . Then close Internet Explorer right there and shut down your computer . When you power up again and try IE you could have the problem licked . Write and let me know if it works will you , I'm bound to have this happen to me again , and it'd be good to have a solution ready to hand .

As a side issue , the spell check window on ADT no longer opens as a small pane anymore but as a full sized beastie . A change in Avant browser , or in ADT software ?

btw, if you're on xp, you might want to try tweak ui from microsoft, it's free, 200k and consolidates some useful scripts they left out on the control panel. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
