Sounds familiar. The connection to the Private Faust is the Spanish performance art group La Fura Dels Baus, who made Fausto 5.0 and just happened to have a certain influence on the Private movie too. Indeed, they've previously retold the Faust story in play and operatic forms, and, according to a review in my daily paper, they've been shocking London theatre goers with an explicit stage show. Funny how the highbrow coverage fails to mention the porn connection, but there you go. Sex for those in the know = art. Sex for the common man = smut. It was ever thus. I should note that I have seen neither Private's Faust nor the arthouse Faust. Nor for that matter, Salieri's Faust. But I just thought this was an interesting connection. Private press release about collaboration on La Fura Dels Baus stage show. [Link] |
