One approach you might try is to look up reviews on Dangerous Tides here and at the IAFD. If you find yourself in agreement with certain reviewers then use them to lead you to other movies through their reviews.

Brad Armstrong directed Dangerous Tides and a zillion other story-driven, feature movies for Wicked. So I think anything by him is going to do the trick.
I'd personally suggest the features and vignette movies under the Marc Dorcel label, particularly those directed by Kendo or Herve Bodilis. Many are filmed in French or other European languages, but the English dubbing is surprisingly good.
