On DVD the specification only allows for SD content, but if it is 16x9 content, a high-def master most certainly exists, which can either be available as Blu-ray (seldom) or as download (99% of the cases).

Often, when browsing online retailers, I see an older title that catches my interest, but I pass on purchasing because I assume it's not high-def. Even with my HD DVR and Smart TV, older DVDs don't have the clarity of picture I prefer. I'd welcome hearing from anyone who can summarize what's happening in the world of porn and high-def.
