I've been considering shooting adult films for a while but I'm not particularly interested in setting up the large apparatus necessary to distribute the finished product. I have too much responsibility in two other companies to dedicate that kind of time into that aspect of the business especially when it's such a changing landscape at the moment (and outside my experience.)
I own a RED camera, lighting package and everything else needed to put the product together. So my question would be - do some of the larger companies ever farm out some of their production needs to subsidiaries like mainstream studios do? The reason I ask is because I thought I heard of content buying in the past.
I'm not sure I'm even asking in the right place, but I welcome your thoughts.

Some amateur content publishers buy all their content and some websites outsource some of their production.

Unless you are willing to release DVDs on a regular basis - one every month or one every other month at least, I wouldnt bother. You will not get paid.
It is very difficult to collect from stores and wholesalers and they usually only pay those content producers who are putting out DVDs on a regular basis.
If they know you dont have a movie coming out for another 6 months they really dont have a reason to pay you.
Start your own website or a C4S store. You can monetize your content much better and you dont have to wait 60-120 days to get paid.
As for being a content producer, there are a million of guys doing that. Established directors are offering their services for content production and they get most of it. And usually content producers dont get paid for at least 60-90 days as well now.

Sad commentary on the business practices of porn distribution channels.
