I just purchased a LaCie external drive that has several interfaces, including Firewire 800. My motherboard doesn't have it, so I'm looking for an add-on card.
The customer reviews on NewEgg.com suggest that all Firewire cards are not created equal. Any suggestions in terms of brands? With regard to this kind of add-on card will there be significant performance differences between PCI and PCIe x 1 models?
Thanks!

I'm not really familiar with the details on specs. What I can say is that I have a Texas Instruments 1394 card from a few years ago that seems to work fine for transferring digital video. I've never had issues with it. The model I have would probably be very cheap today. It came with StudioDV when I bought it whenever. That's about all I have.
