I never thought about it much before, but now I question the overall purpose. Many, if not most, porn DVDs start with a showing clips of future scenes. I can see it as a trailer to get people to buy the DVD, but when I compare it to mainstream it gets me wondering. Most mainstream movie intros don't show you scenes that you will see throughout the movie. Why show clips of the scenes the viewer is about to see? I wonder how much thought goes into that decision. Do producers do it for a reason other than others do it? It can't really be to advertise, because somebody already bought the DVD. One might argue that the intro is a bit of a spoiler and that viewing might be more pleasurable the sex gradually revealed itself rather than having the viewer know where the cum shot, for instance, would occur. On the other hand, the intro can serve for star identification (the viewer can go back and find the name of that hot starlet), but that could just be placed at the end.

Porn is meant to be stimulating to the viewer right? I think these intros are kind of a tease for the viewer, showing them what they are about to get.

In the nicest analogy possible, it's like a woman whispering nasty things in your ear about what you are *about* to get from her.

I think this is deliberate and a good idea. Just HMO.
