Ordered Ass Worship from them about two week ago and still have not received it yet. What the hell is going on with them? And how does such a popular retailer seem to always be out of stock of the hot titles? Five Star! I want my DVD dam it!

Five Star has recently had some really good sales (most notably on Evil Angel titles). Unfortunately, these sales have been very popular and have caused them to run out of stock on many of these titles (I recently had two of my backordered Evil Angel titles sent to me after a few weeks on backorder).

They seem to be having a hard time getting these discs re-ordered from the manufacturers (they're probably dealing with backorders from the manufacturers, the same way that we are dealing with backorders from them, only on a larger scale).

I guess there's two ways to look at buying these backordered titles. We can either pay more, and get immediately from a store that has them in stock, or we can save $5 per disc, and wait until they become available. It would be nice is Five Star had something telling when a title was due in stock, but that would require that the manufacturers be able to meet re-order delivery dates (which doesn't seem likely).

I'm just happy that Five Star has extended these sales beyond the inventory that they had on hand. Many stores have had sales that only lasted "While Supplies Last". As soon as a title went out of stock, it was no longer on sale.

as my previous column stated, five star hasnt had ass worship 2 in since the first day it came out, which was the same day they sold out of it. Maybe they dont want to sell that many evil angel dvds at that price, because i'm sure theyre not making that much money on them.

I see what you're saying, Anal_Fan, but that sounds wrong to me, after all, if they wanted to make more per title, they'd just increase the price.

For a retailer, $5 in their hand is better for them than $10 in the other guy's hand...

I have a theory about much of fivestar's stock - since they have so many titles to keep in stock, they order smaller numbers of each from their distibutors:

- larger overall catalogue, smaller inventory = faster turnover = less stock sitting around taking shelf space earning dust.

cheers,

Evil Angel has had all of our DVD titles in stock in our warehouses, and any order that comes in by 3pm is filled and shipped on the same day, except for perhaps a 500-piece order that was unexpected.
Fivestar does not buy directly from us, and I hope that people keep posting their concerns about long backorders.

who is going to order something that always says out of stock? no one.
smaller inventory= backorder nightmare
I doubt that many evil angel new releases sit around long.

Five Star is going on a down-hill climb and thier business will suffer. I switched to XrentDVD.com and they have a much better stock, and if it is out-of-stock, it will be in-stock in 2-3 days. Xrent had the same sale FiveStar did and almost every title was in-stock for Xrent.

Tricia's point makes sense but I would think there's a reason why a company would buy from a distributor rather than the producing company-cost. If Evil Angel sells a title, for example, at $18@ and can supply you within a day vs a distributor who sells a title for $15@ and takes more time, which makes your company happier? It depends on which market you are chasing. If you are looking for the best price and can wait a while, you'll stick with the distributor. If you are looking for the advantages of availability, you'll buy direct.

Having had a number of business conversations with various players in this field, I can say that price is often king and many consumers are more interested in price over availability. I suppose that's why Simon Wolf Organization is going with a direct distribution model-if you don't get it straight from them, forget about any pricing advantages...

Tricia, are the distributors getting that much of a break to make them your competitors? IE: without going into too much detail, does Evil Angel offer large enough pricing tiers to allow a distributor to make a lot of money undercutting your prices? (like 500 units at $17@, 2000 units at $15@, etc?) Curious...and waiting on an Evil Angel title at 5 Star

Pure speculation on my part of course, but there's also the possibility of minimum orders from various producers

(ie minimum order $500 worth of stock, or specific titles have to be purchased in batches of, say, 6, or 10 etc.)

Not to say this is how EA run their distrubution, because obviously I have no idea of their specifics, but the above kind of minimums is not unusual in distribution/retail.

This is where the "One-Stop" type of distributor warehouses come into play, you can order 1, 2 or 45 of a given title, often with no overall minimums, plus you can buy product from many different distubutors from the one source (hence, "one-stop").

cheers,

Well, I finally received my order. Thanks Five Star. But you've got to do better at keeping hot titles in stock or else customers will go to other retailer like DVd Advantage and Adult DVd Empire.

There have been several posts regarding our Evil Angel sale and I would like to respond. First of all, our goal with the EA sale was to offer the best possible price to our customers and I think we’ve succeeded in that regard. Our $19.95 Evil Angel discs combined with FREE shipping, FREE bonus DVDs and a 5% Kickback rebate is the best Evil Angel deal I have seen. So far the response has exceeded our highest expectations. Perhaps the only downside of this sale is that we haven’t kept all of the popular EA titles in stock at all times during our sale. Although most of the EA backorders have shipped within a few days, a few popular titles have taken slightly longer. We are aware of this and we are working very hard to improve the situation.

I’d like to thank everyone for the input on this topic. We pay close attention to our customer’s feedback and we use it as a way to improve our service.

Once again Five Star has dropped the ball. They send me a confirmation about my order saying it was complete and then when I got the shipment it was not. I only got half of what I ordered. First it was making me wait for item out of stock without informing me and now this. What the hell???

1. I have about 100 titles in my wishlist. About 60% of it are *Out of stock*

2. Evil Angel was 19.95 and is now 22.95 for about 2 weeks and the stock is not gettin better

3. Extreme Associate was 16.95 and is now 19.95. About 60% of the titles are *Out of stock*

4. Some titles like *New Breed 2* or *Caribbean Undercover* are Out of stock for weeks. Why that ?

Don't understand me wrong. I like Fivestar very much. They have good prices and a good user service, but they have to do something with their stock status !

The distributor that was providing FiveStar with Evil Angel DVDs no longer has access to Evil Angel's product, so although their stock may someday improve, I am pretty sure that the price won't.

DVD Freak- We have every Extreme Associates title in stock and almost all Evil Angel DVDs. Caribbean Undercover is also available but was backordered for several weeks due to a manufacturing delay with the studio. Approximately 90% of our titles are in stock for immediate shipment and most backordered titles usually ship within a few days. Most studios do a good job of keeping product in the pipeline, but there are a few studios (especially Zane, Snatch/Samurai, Nymph, Metro) that frequently take months to replicate out of stock movies.

Bigdick- I checked with customer service and I see that they have contacted you to explain that your order was split into 2 shipments. This usually happens because our shippers hear a loose disc inside the case and upon inspection it looks badly scratched. Rather than sending out a potentially defective disc we’ll select a different copy or if necessary send it separately. Regardless, you should have been notified before you received your package and I have discussed this with our staff.

There's one important thing that people need to understand. Maintaining the level of inventory required to avoid going out of stock on titles is expensive.

This cost is usually passed along in the price that a company has to charge for DVD's. If you notice, the companies that do a better job of not running out of stock, tend to have higher prices than the companies that have higher occurrenes of backorders.

WE CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. Personally, I like the fact that we are given the choice of better prices, with the potential cost of inconvenience vs. more convenience with the additional cost of more money. If every store kept high levels of inventory, we really wouldn't have many choices, all stores would have to charge pretty much the same price in order to stay in business.

If you notice, many online stores selling mainstream DVD's give price discounts to people who pre-order and then they immediately raise their price by 20-30% as soon as the movie is released. This is done because there is absolutely no inventory risk when they buy DVD's for orders that already exist.

It would be nice if more Adult companies were as reliable as Evil Angel. If they all published release dates, AND MET those dates, adult stores would be able to do the same thing.

I am happy to say that FiveStarDVD has decided to return to purchasing Evil Angel DVDs directly from us. A lot of distributors find that we really do have awesome customer service, both for the distributors, and for the end customer.

So at least with Evil Angel's stuff, anyone who is waiting for something from FiveStar should have all their needs satisfied shortly.

I am glad Five Star will be getting their dvds directly from you which should come as great news to all Evil Angel fans who use Five Star. BTW the title I got is Lex the Impaler 2-- can't wait to see the Monica Sweetheart scene :)

Well! After waiting for what seems like forever I finally got what I ordered and paid for from Five Star. The time it took was still too long. Five Star has good prices but bad inventory control management. It's simple Five Star! Buy plenty of the good studio titles and keep them in stock before having a sale. Anyway, I did get an apology from them and free shipment in return for the delay.
Now! how about a sale on Anabolic/Diabolic and Evil Angel Title?
