I've received a number of emails from Kickback shoppers within the past two days asking about the status of their pending credits. I figured it might be a good idea to make a general post about the timing of credits here in the forum in case there are other people wondering what's up.

Prior to February we would typically issue credit for orders shipped in the previous month within the first few business days of each month. We used to issue credit prior to actually receiving payment from the retailers. As of March we have instituted a policy of holding off on credits until we receive payment from each retailer. As we receive checks we issue credit.

To give you an idea of when we generally receive payments:

  • DVD Advantage - Sends out checks religiously the first business day of every month
  • Adult DVD Empire - Processes affiliate orders typically within the first week of each month. We generally receive payment around the 10th-14th for the previous month's orders.
  • DVD Exotic - No set schedule. Generally works out to a quarterly payment system.
  • Five Star DVD - No set schedule. Payments typically received every 6-8 weeks.

  • Please keep in mind that all of the retailers pay us based on when your order ships completely, not when it was placed. If there are any back-ordered items that linger into the next calendar month they will possibly delay us issuing credit for an additional 30 days.

If you have any specific questions about the Kickback program or issuing of credits please feel free to drop us a note to kickback@adultdvdtalk.com.

Just an update: we will be issuing Kickback credit for Five Star's orders later this weekend.

I know that a lot of folks have been waiting patiently and I thank you.

I should clarify that the Five Star Kickback credits we are processing are for orders placed between 12/01 and 2/28/02.

I received a rather rude note today from a Kickback program member basically calling us theives. The individual is mistakenly under the impression that he should be able to redeem his Kickback credit within a few days of his credit card being charged. He managed to form this opinion after a series of email discussions overf the course of the last month.

My response wasn't very nice.

We make every effort administer the Kickback program in an honest and ethical fashion. (The participating retailers do the same.) We give away 75% of our affiliate revenue in the form of Kickback credits these days. We do this because we feel it's very important to reward shoppers for buying through our links. We are the only site on the internet that provides this service for Adult DVD purchases. Maybe we're just stupid? Sure seems that way some times. Who in their right mind would give away 75% of their revenue just to be called a thief?

I actually just placed my first-ever order through Kickbacks, and I'm very excited about it. Since I made my purchase through Adult DVD Empire, and it shipped complete in late April, I'm not expecting to hear about my credit any sooner than mid-May. This wait is perfectly acceptable to me, and I do appreciate that Adult DVD Talk is offering this service.

Drew, that's outrageous. It's too bad you can't 'kickback' such unappreciative people out of the program completely, because as you pointed out, you don't have to be doing this at all. Who needs the aggravation? Not only is it money out of your pocket, it must be a nightmare to administrate.

I look at it as a bonus, not to be taken for granted. Please know that it is much appreciated, but if I were you, I don't know if I would be so generous. I hope idiots like this don't ruin it for everyone.

Your response SHOULDN'T have been nice. It really sucks to get shit from someone when you are doing something that you don't have to do.

Sometimes I think that the correct answer to something like this is "Here's your credit. Now go away and don't come back, your business is not welcome anymore".

Don't let responses like this get you down. It's a shame that you only hear from the people who have problems and complaints about this. For every one of them, there are dozens of other people who truly appreciate what you are doing with the Kickback program (defintiely myself included).

Maybe we should all consider saying "Thank you" a little more often.

Bill - are you a mind reader? Here's the final paragraph of my response:

Drew, that's about how we handle people who complain about our bills, etc. We politely tell them that if they don't think our bill is fair, to pay us whatever they think is fair, but if it's not the amount on the invoice, do not ever come back under any circumstances. If they pay the full bill, then fine, and they rarely seem to complain after that. If they don't pay the bill, then we figure it's normally a cheap way to get rid of a pain in the a$$ customer who isn't going to be a decent account anyway.
