The other day Anna Kendrick tweeted:
@AnnaKendrick47
May 21
My online shopping style:
Put everything I like in the cart.
Edit.
Edit more.
Edit until I'm down to one item.
Decide it's not even worth typing out my credit card info.
Watch free porn.
And today Georgia Jones responded by tweeting:
>Watch free porn.

You mean stolen.... you watch stolen porn. There's nothing free about all of the hard work , time & money that went into these productions. As someone who works in production, you of all people should understand the costs.

Well she's right. Porn seems like the one thing that's totally okay to pirate. Actually whenever someone on Reddit mentions they pay for porn they get asked why they'd do that.

How is that "throwing shade"?
It's a true statement from Georgia.

^A good suggestion but some probably won't do that so here is a small blurb I found on Merriam Webster(see link) that better explains what I think you mean.
.. when you are all of the same thing, then you have to go to the fine point. In other words, if I'm a black queen and you're a black queen, we can't call each other 'black queens' because we're both black queens. That's not a read-that's just a fact. So then we talk about your ridiculous shape, your saggy face, your tacky clothes. Then reading became a developed form, where it became shade. Shade is, I don't tell you you're ugly, but I don't have to tell you, because you know you're ugly. And that's shade.

I guess that phrase is something only a native speaker of English can understand?
Because I don't understand why I couldn't call e.g. another twitter user a twitter user, just because I am myself a twitter user.

Because to most of society, porn is viewed as an unhealthy habit and paying for it is "weird" or taboo.

She doesn't know it's stolen though. It could well be something like Woodrocket.

^ Then Anna surely lacks awareness as she should explicitly try to convey that information in that message. I'ts more than understandable that in the context of the adult industry saying you are watching free porn will be perceived as pirating as the number of actual legit free productions is very limited compared to the actual amount of stolen content.
On contrary, saying you will get a free program to edit a video won't get you in trouble because there is a huge open source community thus also a large market of freeware applications. This doesn't mean that they aren't stolen applications, yet people will easily accept this message as not having bad intentions.

Even Pornhub has content that was purposefully uploaded by the content creators to be viewed for free (from trailers and clips from studios to amateurs releasing full videos). Saying the porn was "free" isn't anywhere near enough information to say whether it was pirated or not.

^ Nothing you say contradicts my statement.
Free = Pirated is an assumption, I agree and you should "Never ASSUME, because when you ASSUME, you make an ASS of U and ME.". Yet, we all do it, sometimes the assumptions we make are so trivial that must be true and sometimes (probably most of times) they aren't and well, that quote becomes true. Why people jump on Anna with those accusations? Because of the problem that industry faces with the piracy and therefore expecting the worst becomes the habit. "... we make a guess based on our imagination, past experiences or wishful thinking." from The Problem with Making Assumptions. My assumption (don't worry, I do like asses) is that past experiences may be the cause.
So, being aware of the context that surrounds the adult industry should warn why "Watch free porn" is going to be perceived as it was when no more information is provided. I will ignore the P(L/F) - probability of only watching legal stuff when only looking for free stuff or avoid to make any character judgment and say I don't have a clue if Anna is doing something wrong or not, what I do say is that she lacked the awareness necessary to understand why that sentence is to be avoided.
