I’m a reviewer in my late-20s and have some training in video film production, not celluloid film. I am most partial to the adult films produced from the late 60s to the latter part of the 80s. On scoring discs:
When I create the overall rating for a disc I factor in the plot and acting (if applicable), sex, the looks of the talent, and the audio/video quality. Poor audio or video quality can and will lower an overall disc rating (for instance for Sweet Young Foxes and Girls on Fire the overall rating was lowered due to poor A/V). Lack of or poor extras will not lower a disc rating and the inclusion of excellent extras will only slightly raise the rating. I rate each film individually based on it’s merits or lack there of.

General Reviewing:
I try to do accurate coverage of the audio and video quality for the discs as this is a feature I often look for in a review. I also try to do accurate coverage of the extras on discs. Sometimes an extra can be forgotten by accident and when I have seen the same extra many times in the past it often just gets an abbreviated description. For instance on Wicked discs where they have the same stock extras that are slightly changed from time to time like the Company Profile and Promotional Reels.

I don’t do laundry list style descriptions of the sex scenes. I have recently started doing brief scene descriptions, but these aren’t meant to be all inclusive of what is contained in the scene, just a general idea. When I do screen shots, I shy away from hardcore shots as we all know they are there and focus on the talent and sets to give readers a sense of the film. My screen shots aren’t representative of the video quality as I reduce the quality of the image for quick loading and to save on Steph and Drew’s bandwidth. I also include a shot of the main menu for the disc so readers have an idea of the DVD authoring.

What I like:

• A decent plot


• Decent sets, not ones that looked like they were put together in 10 minutes

• Eroticism, instead of the way too abundant circus act scenes


• Western theme movies, why are there so few of these


• Pirate theme movies, why are there even fewer of these


• Women with small breasts, if they'll show up on the Guantanamo Bay radar system, they are way too big


• School Girl themes, of legal age of course, why are there so few of these that are done well


• Remote island in the Caribbean theme movies, why are there only two of these that I know of (Pink Lagoon and Surrender in Paradise )


• Decent production values, a guy with a handy-cam doesn't cut it folks

What I dislike:

• Guys who shouldn’t be in porn (ie, Ed Powers and the current Ron Jeremy in sex scenes, I have no problem with old Ron Jeremy films or the current Ron Jeremy in non-sex roles)


• Vomiting, really I hate this, no really I hate this


• Defecation, something I do, not something I want to see


• Spitting, just plain rude and unnecessary


• Gaping, I don't want to see what a woman ate for breakfast


• The shoving of incredibly huge items up a woman's sphincter


• The shoving of above mentioned incredibly huge item that has now been up a woman's sphincter into a woman's mouth


• Since I am on this topic, anal sex is alright, but keep it at that I don't need to see miscellaneous items of any sort or food going into the sphincter for safe keeping or what-have-you


• And please, if you have shoved such an object up there, keep it out of the woman's mouth afterwards


• Degradation to women


• Boob jobs, I really hate boob jobs


• Unnecessary violence to women


• Choking

My Attitude:
I'm just hoping every now and then one of my reviews puts a smile on your face and entertains you, as well as hoping it helps you avoid wasting your money on a dog of a DVD.

What Makes a 5 Star DVD For Me:
The complete package. If I watch a DVD with the best feature in the world, and it has a decent transfer and no extras, there's no way it gets a perfect rating. If it's a feature movie, it's gotta have a near perfect transfer, commentary, behind the scenes, and other extras. If it's an all sex or gonzo type DVD, I still want extras. I always want to see something like behind the scenes and interviews. Every studio out there should at the very least be able to include a bonus scene or three!

My Style:
I would say it leans more towards being a narrative. I like to describe the scene, how the girl looks, clothing, breast size, etc. I want the people reading the review to accurately know what happens in a scene so I try to add descriptions of what happens such as Gauge then rides his cock in a beautifully filmed reverse cowgirl. I also try to add funny quips when I can using song titles, famous peoples names, whatever I can think to make it funny as well as informative.

On scoring discs:
When I score discs, I tend to rate them on the sex side of things rather than the actual quality of the dvd (ie sound, picture quality, extra's etc), as it's the sex I'm watching it for, not how pretty the set looks etc. For me, a good dvd has good looking women (generally european), who really go for it on screen, and they enjoy their work and it come across on the screen. I like hardcore sex on my dvd's, and if there isn't any anal, then the disc will get marked down for this, as this is definately a requirement of mine.

General Reviewing:
When I do a review, I like to let the reader know where I am coming from and why I got this dvd in the first place, Ie reccomendations/purchases/lent by friend etc etc. Then I like to give a description of who's in it, what they actually do and how it's all done. I will touch lightly on the lighting, sound etc, as i still think that it is necessary for the reader to appreciate these factors.

Finally (which admittedly is a new addition) I have started to give the girls a rating at the end of each scene. Not only does this enable me to remember what these girls were like, but it also enables me to determine if the girls are going down hill or not. It also allows the reader to grasp what sort of girls that I like, and the rating that i would give them out of 10. I think that I am quite harsh with my ratings, and for a girl to get a perfect 10 would be amazing!!

Other Things Of Note

I don't watch porn in one sitting, basically the more sittings it takes to review the flick, the higher the score it receives!

I rate based on the cumulative Whack Factor of the flic. I believe the primary (sole?) purpose of porn is to get you (the viewer) off! The Whack Factor measures how effective a scene is at achieving its purpose.

Most discs have a combination of hot scenes and filler . Occasionally, one finds a dog disc that is all filler . I will blast such discs! But even more rarely, one finds a disc that is all hot scenes . Upon these discs, I will bestow the Whackmeister Seal of Approval . Films that receive this award are in my mind keepers, they will continue to provide hours of sexual entertainment for months to come!

The only other note I would like to provide is that I am honest and I call 'em like I see 'em , and if that irritates some people, too bad!

Review Style
It try to give a balanced review. What I mean by that is I try to give the reader a scene by scene breakdown without going overboard by describing every minute detail of the scene. Although I try to include all of the essential information I don't want the scene breakdowns to sound like a laundry list, so I attempt to add a splash of color & creative description.

I also do my best to add screenshots to my reviews, because lets face it in the end we all want to see for ourselves.

When it comes to ranking the DVDs I review first and foremost I consider the quality of the movie. Yes audio and video quality are important, and DVD extras can really enhance the value of some discs. However a great film is still a great film, even if there are no extras and the picture and sound quality are average, but a bad film is a bad film no matter how nice it sounds or looks and who needs an extra helping of a bad movie.

How I Rate Movies
I start at "average" (2.5 out of 5) then add or subtract points based on content. I'll add points for good video/audio quality, good content, performances that go above and beyond just lying there being a prick-cushion, anything that gives me a boner. I'll subtract points for phone-sex/web/trailer advertisements in the front of the disc (especially if I can't FF past them), anything that violates the boundaries of the law or good tastes, being extreme just to be extreme, and if the product does not meet the hype it is pitching on the web/box cover.

For "genre" type movies I used a weighted average of (genre score/ genre score/ movie as a whole score) / 3. For example, a girl-girl movie with lame girl-girl action in a good but mostly heterosexual film would probably disappoint someone looking for a girl-girl flick.

1) Beautiful women - which I define as women with faces I like and bodies I can stand. Good skin is a major plus. Bad boob jobs are a major minus - as a rule of thumb, I'd say very few women need breast surgery to look good to me. Whether they need it for themselves is another matter.

2) Anal sex - I love the way anal sex looks on film. I may ignore a woman until I see her in an outstanding anal scene and only then decide to check out her other material. Furthermore, there are so many women out there that I tend to ignore the beautiful ones who don't do anal just to keep the number I'm following down.

3) Quality shots - I'm looking for a few good shots, not a lot of mediocre ones. Furthermore, I'm not particularly interested in anonymous body parts - I want to see who it is that's getting fucked and how she's reacting to it.

4) Couples - I don't really care for "the gang's all here" or "lez be friends." I found it boring in my personal life and I see no benefit to it being at one remove.

5) Being there - If the performers can't convince me they're "there," then I'm not either.

6) Clothes - the "je ne sais quoi" of porn, the right clothes can turn the heat way up. I'm reminded of Vanessa Chase's scene in 'Hotel Sodom 2,' where she comes into the room in this soft white, semi-transparent top that clings to her breasts. That combination of innocence and allure just puts the peter-meter to the wall.

7) Production values - the setting in which the sex takes place is like the setting into which a jewel is mounted - it should be elevating and enhancing the actors and the acts. If the set, the lighting or the audio get in the way instead, then it costs points.

8) Passion - The next step up from being there, passion suggests not only willing, but eager participation. I have no way of knowing whether a couple are truly hot for each other, consequently I don't really care about the reality. I just want the performers, in conjunction with the director, cameraman and editor, to make me believe that they're hot for each other.

9) Positions - there are certain positions that, when done well, just drive me up the wall, in a good way. However, I don't demand these, as I rather dislike the 'check the boxes' brand of sex scene. Nevertheless, I can't help upgrading scenes that include them.

10) Respect - similar to passion, except by respect I mean that the man recognizes his partner is another human being, not just a collection of warm receptacles. This doesn't mean things can't get intense, or even rough, it just means that he celebrates the woman's sexuality, rather than making it seem degrading. In this regard, I find Steve Holmes comes the closest to consistently expressing that ideal.

When I do a review I try to describe the sex itself rather then make it seem like a piece of poetry. There are some reviewers here that do a good job at that. I know that when I look for a dvd to buy or rent I want to know what is in every scene and whether I know it will be what I will like. Especially when I buy because it is a lot harder to get rid of a dvd that says ANAL on the cover when I go to trade in my mainstream movies. I am no expert in the technical side but as long as it is crisp and clean that's fine by me. I don't like to give 5's too often because to me that means it's perfect, and let's face it not many things are perfect. If I like everything in the film and the special features are good than I'll give it a 5 but that doesn't happen often. My likes/dislikes are in my reviews so I really don't want to write them all down again.

My likes are real chemistry between the performers, one man/one woman scenes, some actual conversation between the people in the scene, good camera, lighting and editing (at least good enough that it doesn't interfere with enjoying what's on film), decent pacing to the sex action so that it looks natural, not rushed or too slow, and a mix of medium and long shots, with a few close-ups.

My dislikes are female caterwauling, fake moaning, male swearing (when it sounds hostile), men who move like they're on autopilot, women who just lay there, fake lesbian interludes, anything that makes a performer look like she/he is in discomfort or pain, extreme circus acts, jerky camera moves, choppy editing, too many close ups, bukkake stunts, and any ratio above 2 men/one woman in a scene.

I don't have a favorite director who stands out all the time over all others. Even the ones I like can sometimes have scenes that aren't my cup of tea.

For the same reason, I don't have any big favorites amongst the performers, whose work I will enjoy no matter what. The one who comes closest is Rocco Siffredi (as a performer, not director) who has a real naturalness on film and some incredible moves, though he can sometimes be callous or look uninterested. Let me say I'm less bored with his performances than with any other man's.

My favorite film that I've seen, the only one I've given 5 stars to, is "Rocco Invades Poland", even with its few faults. My favorite individual scenes are:

Porn viewing history: I have at least some historical perspective. I started long enough ago to have seen several films in actual theaters. Formative early titles include Titillation, Brief Affair and 8 to 4. I completely stopped watching porn for about five years in the mid- to late '90s, but DVDs brought me back. The DVD of Cashmere was highly influential in making porn an actual hobby for me, because it was the first porn disc I saw that had a commentary track. I was instantly hooked on DVD extras, because they help you get to know the people involved.

I really hate it when you have a director film a movie in normal speed, but when it comes to the sex scenes, they drop the speed by a third and then do some stupid voice-over. To me that's BORING. I want to see it and I want to hear it as it's happening.

I've said it in my reviews and I'll say it here... sex plus slow motion equals BORING!

I also don't like seeing sex scenes where it's all about the two genitals bumping. That's just part of the equation. Let's show the rest of the anatomy, okay? I want to see a woman's face as she's having sex. I want to see her breasts bounce. I want to see her toes curl and her eyes roll and her fingers clench the guy's back.

How do you score these videos?
I grade videos based on what turns me on. Okay, so what turns me on may not do a thing to someone else, but that's the only measuring stick I have.

I like a variety of videos, from gonzo to compellation to feature to pro-am. It all depends on the subject and the participants. I'm not partial to any one company, and I don't really care about the company as I do the talent and the quality of the video.

Please note that the price I give the videos that I review is the price that I feel they are worth, not necessarily what I paid for them. There could be some videos that are worth $35 that cost $15, and there are some that cost $35 that are really worth $3.50.

Yes I like stories that have an ending to them that's more than just showing the last pop shot. I like aftermaths. I want to see a storyline wrapped up before the ending credits roll.

I tend to favor brunettes and redheads, but that doesn't mean I'm completely turned off by blondes.

In terms of DVD features, I think that scene selection should be a basic function and not considered an extra. I think that a bio page should consist of more than just text and a static photo. I believe that any DVD that offers "multiple angles" should really do just that and not just rehash other scenes. I hate DVDs that put people through the ringer and then have a really lame reward. And I expect an interactive DVD to be just that... completely interactive.

Specialty: paysite porn - I like it better than DVD and studio porn, some sites have no plot and go straight to fucking, some sites have too much plot, some sites have just the right amount of plot. You pick the girls, regular updates, and if you don't like something in the vids, one click moves you right past it and back to the whacking. Some closing notes about my reviews:

Female Looks and Sex are the two categories that factor the most into my "overall rating." Audio/Video quality and Extras count, but are not as important.

I usually assume that the typical or average price for an adult DVD is $20.00. So, if the movie lives up to my expectations, I will say it is worth $20.00.

I don't really care a whole lot about the guys in the movies. I don't feel that, as a heterosexual man, I'm qualified to quantify how attractive they are. Therefore, the "Male Looks" category is always blank. If you care about this, I'm sorry, but I can't help you. If I know the name of the guy involved I will note it in the review, however. If he looks like an escaped convict, I'll probably note that as well.

I only rate the "Plot / Acting" of the movie if it is a feature, or acting is really important to the movie. I don't consider "acting" to be a euphemism for "how well the girls fuck." That falls under the "Sex" category.

I also try to be as objective as possible. If a movie just didn't work for me, but I still feel that it has merit to some viewers, the score will reflect that. My ratings are hopefully not simply an indication of how horny a movie makes me, but a reflection of the overall quality of the package.

GENERAL RATINGS:
2.5 is average. All movies begin with this and they can move up or down or stay the same.

THE 'ENERGY' RATING:
This is weighted much more on the female's performance. A guy can be pounding and moaning furiously but if the girl isn't reacting to it then the energy rating will be low. I usually average out the energy in a scene, but sometimes momentum can tip the scale: If there is a burst of energy that increasingly builds up at the end it may influence me. This is the hardest score for me to gauge but I try my best. Keep in mind that it's very relative.

SCREENSHOTS:
I try to present the most flattering shots given the limitations: No sex, no pussy, no cock. Therefore the screenshots are usually only representative of the tease sequences or face closeups during the fucking. Be aware that there are can be large discrepancies between the tease and action. But I try to capture the essence of the scene and videography as best I can.
You may have noticed that some of my screenshots are convexed- this is because they are digital shots off my TV! No, I don't have a flatscreen. My computer isn't equipped with the right programs, so I use an unorthodox method of taking screenshots. Sometimes it won't allow me to take decent screenshots for a particular movie. Whether I take a computer snaphot or a digital photo does not show any preference or favortism. I'll try for the computer first and if that doesn't work I'll go for my 5 megapixel cam.

FORMAT:
For the 'fetish listing' I try to be as accurate as possible but it's not always comprehensive. I will not list 'gapes' if the asshole doesn't open up more than a dime. I never list 'pussy-to-mouth' because it's a standard in most scenes. I count fishnet body suits as 'stockings.' I will also list non-conventional items if they are a component of the scene- i.e. A 'pen' or 'golfballs' up the ass or 'fruit/food' smeared on the body, or even 'pussy-on-pussy' grinding. MY AIM:
My reviews are first and foremost aimed at the consumer- to make the buying process easier. I use a three prong approach- screenshots, narration and commentary. I will include detailed narratives of a movie when these do not already exist. If the action in a movie has already been narrated 2 or 3 times already, I see no point in another and will focus more on commentary.
As a secondary purpose, my reviews are aimed at the director, videographer, and performers in the movie. I think my reviews are much more critical than others- I will not hesitate to hack a movie apart to closely scrutinize the camerawork, costumes, performances, body positioning, backgrounds, and any other element. I do this because the movies were submitted for honest feedback and I feel it's my duty to give it. I will smash them for its flaws and praise them for its virtues. This is to help make porn better overall.

MY METHOD:
I can't pump out reviews as quick as some of the others- really I don't know how they do it. But as I understand it, some of them will only watch the movie once and will write the review simultaneously. I watch a movie all the way through at least once before I start typing. I think it's fairer this way. When I finish a review I've watched the movie at least twice, sometimes a total of three times.

BIASES:
I don't really have any particulars or fetishes. If a scene works then it works. The only thing I can't stomach is blood and scat, pedophilia, rape, snuff.

OTHER THINGS TO KNOW:
I think that Jenna Jameson is overrated and that 'The Fashionistas' movie is slightly overrated. I am 22 years old and a college student.
