I have a friend who no longer wants to be in the porn business. She has done videos, but now she wants to start a life outside of the business. She regrets having been in porn. I'm worried about her, and I have directed her to get counseling, but I thought someone out there could give me some advice to give her about how she can successfully make the transition out of porn. Thanks.
Or, putting it another way: stay away from temptation. The easy money of porn is what keeps the girls coming back. So, the further they are (physically) away from the source of the easy money, the more likely they can resist the temptation.
Also she needs to get "skills" that will support her: make-up or hair artist, sales rep, health occupations etc.
Reminds me of the time I heard Janine telling about how she decided to have tatoos running up her arms partially so that porn directors wouldn't hire her anymore. She wouldn't to stay out of porn, but couldn't say no.

Direct her to XXXchurch, they seem more than willing to help those types who think they made wrong decisions within the biz.
Wait until they're attending church every week and they've "found the truth"...
I think once you did porn you can't get a normal life, peoples will always recognize you as the pornstar...some people will not even hire the girl depending on the domain, its a lot complicated.
Just my opinion tought

And if you make the best of the situation, there's nothing wrong with that!!
I get a kick out of the recent Jessi Summers situation. A girl does porn for what...4-6 months, maybe a longer (as far as I've noticed)...and she leaves because she's "found the lord?"
Let's see how quickly her past is overlooked...sigh
Once you've made $1300.00 for a couple of hours "work", on a consistent basis it's extremely hard to justify a normal $400.00 40-hr week in your mind. Even if she's sincerely considering quitting there's also the sexual addiction associated with it too. This is a conversation I constantly have with other people in the industry, do the girls come back exclusively because of the money or is part of it the professional, cock drillings, that go along with it. I'm convinced it's a combination of the two. I mean think about it, after being fucked full throttle for extended periods of time. then going back to civilian fuckers must be a big let down.
It's tough in a lot of ways, the sex, the money, the attention and adulation all combine to make a clean break difficult to say the least. I've seen many leave only to return saying fuck that straight shit.
Then again there's, Adrianna Sage, she made her money, got her box covers, now exclusively dances, she fucks who she chooses now. Smart girl. Has her youth, beauty, made her cash her splash and bolted. I talked to her at the LA erotic show and told her about starting Original and how we'd love to have her do a scene and she wouldn't even consider it . I'm sure she makes a killing dancing. Admirable.
Hard question to answer but I'm sure some analyst somewhere is figuring a way to specialize in this very area.
Good luck to your friend, guess it really boils down to her self restraint and resolve.
Its not an easy transition. My girlfriend did it and it was hard. Especially if she is thinking about moving home. Once you have performed everyone who knows you will think you are fair game sexually. People will make derogatory comments. Some wont even be seen with you. The money is a factor. Its hard for some performers to go from $100,000 a year to $25,000 a year. The sex isnt that big of a deal since most of the female performers I know dont get into the on-screen sex anyway.
Counseling is excellent advice. Financial counseling is also suggested if she bothered to save some of her earnings. Go back to school is also great advice.
Lastly, depending on how well known she is, change her look so people wont recognize her.
I can only repeat what I've been told by many female porn performers at dance clubs: the sex on screen is strictly "work" and almost never "satisfying."
In fact, a common side-effect of doing porn (I've been told) is the decrease in off-screen sexual desire for many girls. Sex becomes (and remember we're talking very young--and not emotionally mature--girls) something they do "at work" not at home. And this probably doesn't help a personal relationship that is already strained because she's getting banged regularily by other guys at work.
All of which may explain why many porn girls have off-screen female lovers--the girl/girl relationship can "get them off" sexually, and without the personal issues they have to deal with from men.
get in touch with dr. sharon mitchell she is a former porn star,, did lots of movies, went to school, became a dr, she has helped many former porn stars
This is why I think it's important to have a life outside the adult industry because it'll be easier when the day comes when you want to get out. Counseling can help but like someone else mentioned, getting away from LA is definitely a good idea too. Of course, the money can be difficult in the beginning but start from the bottom and find a niche and hopefully, you'll find a good living somewhere. Good luck! :)
It's always good to hear someone like yourself make "caring" comments about performers, or former performers. Sometimes the porn biz seems like the NFL or Major League Baseball...where the people on the business side don't give a shit about the players, or performers.

Getting away from LA would be alot cheaper on one's living (outside of luxuries), too!!
Nobody stops anybody from quitting porn. So, where is the problem?
Some girls combine a regular job with part time shooting. Dora Venter for instance works as a nurse in a hospital. In Germany I know one girl who works for Deutsche Bank and one who works for Daimler Chrysler, but I forgot their stage names.

Steve, that avatar freaks me out! It just doesn't seem like you without facial hair (as I've seen in titles you've been a part of).
Hello...I don't think the point of this thread is "people being stopped from quitting porn." Rather, it's about the difficulty (by women) in "transitioning from porn to non-porn (mainstream) careers." And, yes, how to help them resist the urge to come back to an industry--that they're not "comfortable" working in--just for the money, and the lack of other opportunities because of small-minded discrimination.
It's nice that in Germany girls can work for major companies and work in porn, too. Not so in the US. In the US women are still being fired from jobs as cops and firefighters for posing nude in Playboy magazine--which is not hardcore. Let's not forget that, not too long ago, Vanessa Williams had to give up her "Miss America" crown when it was revealed that she'd done some nude girl/girl photos--again, no hardcore.
So, as unfair as it may be, the difficulty in moving from porn to non-porn work is a very real issue for American women. And, making that first decision to get into porn (by girls who are still in their teens) is a decision that can impact their working lives, and relationships with their family & friends, for many, many years.
Hope this explains where "the problem is."

Seeing as this topic has been beat to death in the past, I still find it hard that some group, like the EEOC (as example) can't offer some leverage to protect this kind of 'small-minded discrimination' you mention. Outside of that, one would think there would be valid laws against such denial of employment.
If you're qualified for the job, to hell with what you've done in your past (or present) capacity. If it doesn't affect what you do within your job, WHILE being paid, then the (prospective) employer should have no say in it.
She is not a doctor - not an educated medical doctor.
Eric381, employment discrimination is never presented as such. All those years in doing porn other people got experience and other stuff that looks good on resumes. It can always be explained. Besides, if it gets on the news the entire area will see her face in some lurid piece about a porn star trying to be a whatever. That doesn't help put the past behind.
Dora writes about her nursing job on her HP. With Daimler and Deutsche Bank firing thousands of employees both should looking for a fulltime job in the adult scene.

Derek117 wroteThis is exactly the reason that people need to take these issues into serious consideration before getting into porn, because once you're into it, it's too late to go back. Everybody makes stupid decisions at some points in their lives, especially when they're young. However, most people don't have their past mistakes lining video store shelves or uploaded on some website for all the world to see forever. Whenever people decide to do porn, they need to realize beforehand that it is a decision that will literally follow them forever, and there is no way to escape it, not even by leaving the industry. Besides, the industry does not get hurt by girls leaving. Girls who leave seem to be quickly replaceable, and even once the girl leaves, the companies still make money from the content they already have of her, so it really makes no difference to the companies. People, particularly women, really need to think strongly before getting involved into the porn industry. It is the one occupation with the most disrepute, yet the least anonimity.
I also don't think sexual addiction has anything to do with it. Hot girls can always get sex if that's what they really want. Not only this, but they can always find a boyfriend who will be more than happy to fuck the daylights out of them every night of the week. These girls don't need to be in front of a camera to get sex. And the sex in porn is so mechanical and "rehearsed" (for lack of a better description), that I have a difficult time believing that most girls find it more satisfying than non-porn sex, especially with all the stop-and-go action, position changes, timing schedules for cumshots, having a camera shoved up in your face the entire time, a whole crew of people standing around watching, no foreplay beforehand or affection afterward, etc. Porn is all about male fantasy and has nothing to do with what I classify as "real" sex. Thus, I think money is obviously the main factor for the decision of a woman to get into porn, much more so than the sex.
well it always helps to change your looks a little bit, dont dress porno, and when you make your cv you write theater instead of porn.
i know some people here who wanted to get a regular job, but got recognized everywhere, not that they were not qualified for the job, but the people didnt understand why milionairs need a security job for example..
its hard, but once you've been out a few months, dont live in LA, its quite easy to pick up another life, except the money probably isnt as good.
A good thing is that a lot of girls in porn, including me, dont get recognized easy. we look so different on camera then in real life! you see people looking, like where do they recognize you from, but very rarely they come up and ask. And you can always pretend to be highly insulted by it;) which i think is very funny because the people die of shame on the spot..hihi
Andrea for example gets recognized every day by someone, for him it will be harder to find a job outside of porn if he wanted to. thats why he started his own construction company on the side. someone else runs it for him, but whatever happens, he has something to fall back on.
croy, sharon mitchell has "PHD" after her name, she is a dr of human sexuality, she runs a company called "AIM"check this site, there is a link, a few posts back on this site
This is a very good topic people but do the companies tell the girls about what they are going to get into once they dive into porn or do they girls have to get that information on their own before they start doing porn?

Whoever said it was? Anyone who THINKS this is based on "real" sex isn't watching too intently, they've got their head up their ass. It's always been male-evoked fantasy (suckie-fuckie-cum in thy face), except for the minority lesbian & girl-dom scenes.
Diesal, I'd venture to say the burden of being informed is left on the girls prior to & during their time within the industry.
Thank you. I do care about what happens to a lot of people in this industry. Like I mentioned in another thread regarding porn girls finding love, porn girls are people too and want respect and love just like most non-porn girls do. At least, the porn girls I know want that. :)
It's a good way to start for sure! In Oklahoma, it only cost about $300 a month to rent a big apartment all to yourself compared to if you live in LA, it'd cost $1500-$2000 of the same thing. Of course, it's not the same lifestyle, I know. :)
I think girls have an idea the effects you have when you start performing in the industry. It can be good and bad. The good companies will always take care of their girls. Jesse Jane for example wants to be a sex icon and of course, she'll get recognized at many places. The question for these girls is always, "what do you plan to do when the porn business is over". For many girls, I don't think there's a constructive answer. It's definitely something to think about.

That's a good point. Now that I think about it, I can't even remember the names and faces of most porn girls as it is, so I know I probably wouldn't recognize most of them if I saw them on the street. Unless it's a girl who really stands out (i.e., major leading pornstars or the cliche pornstar-looking girls), or someone who I've seen in like a hundred movies, or one who just has a unique look about her, most of the regular-girl-type looking porn chicks would be able to walk right pass me and I wouldn't know the difference. And even for the ones who are more easily recognizable, like you said, all they have to do is put on a baseball cap, some average-looking clothes, or style their hair differently, and that will help them be less recognizable. But even with all that, there is still always somebody who will know her as "that girl." And all it takes is one person to spread the word around so that, before you know it, everyone else knows who the girl is. And yes, the girl can always deny it and act insulted, but I doubt if that works all the time with everybody. Of course, a porn girl who doesn't want to be recognized is obviously going to deny having been in porn. Personally, I wouldn't even ask. I couldn't imagine myself going up to some random girl at an airport or a shopping mall and asking, "Hey, aren't you that chick fom that movie, 'Butt-Fucked Cum Swallowing Hobags?'" Even if I ever did see a porn girl who I recognized, I probably wouldn't say anything unless I was sure she wants to be recognized. Otherwise, I think it would just be awkward for us both.
I think that's a reasonable question to have. It's hard enough trying to get everyday people to take security jobs. By the way, since when did pornstars become millionaires? I've heard that porn can be a lucrative job, but I've never heard it exaggerated that much.
Biggdiesal wrote
The porn industry survives by persuading young, pretty chicks to fuck on camera, not by scaring them all away. To inform them of the possible risks and repurcussions that a porn job entails would be tantamount to porn companies kicking themselves in the ass and putting themselves out of business. If you're running a restaurant, are you going to try to get as many people to eat there as you can by telling them all about the excellent food you have, or are you going to sit them down and tell them all about the roach problem you have in the kitchen? Pornographers are smart enough to know that telling a girl that fucking on camera may possibly ruin her future outside porn will not do very much to help them recruit fresh young pussy for their movies, so I'm pretty sure that they leave those parts unmentioned. For example, I haven't watched a Max Hardcore movie in a while, so I don't know if he still does this in his movies, but when I used to watch him, either before or after the main feature, there was always an advertisement recruiting for models. There was footage of exotic locations with people partying and having fun while the voiceover stated (and I paraphrase), "Do you like to have fun? Do you want to travel the world, make lots of money, and meet new friends? If Yes, then become a model. Send us your photos and contact information, and you'll be on your way to stardom in no time." Of course, the promise of money, fame, and fun is enough to entice any 18 year-old girl into what she might think is just a modelling career (the advertisements never said anything about porn, sex, or nudity). However, imagine if Max Hardcore just came out and said, "Come work for me where you can make good money, but it will also mean having to puke on my dick, let me piss in your face, and fuck you in the ass while I verbally denigrate you all at the same time. Oh, and by the way, this will all be recorded on video for all the world to see." I doubt if an advertisement such as the latter example would serve as an effecient recruitment strategy.
it has been said and will countiue to be said the girl in question just needs to relocate for sure not saying that will make her life easyer..... also lik eosmeone siad here alreasdy we live in america the country that our preident sleeps with a bible under his pillow .... america can be a cold place if peopel think your immoral
It seems getting fucked is more likely to happen in a lot more jobs these days than just in the adult business. Besides what´s a porn fan to do who someday recognizes his good years are gone (watching porn) and still is single and lonely ? Life often sucks in more ways thanjust the decision of your working place. And i wonder what hurts more ... getting fucked by eg. deutsche Bank and/or Daimler or Max H.
Yeah, well, the problem here in much of the US is that if Deutsche Bank fucks you everyone murmurs in sympathy and gives you encouragement to find a new job, whereas if Max fucks you everyone recoils and treats you like dirt.
Honorary doctorate, I believe. There have been some who have noted serious problems with AIM, which still doesn't make her a doctor. AIM itself precedes the honorary doctorate. AIM's purported purpose seems to be tracking HIV tests to a performer's name and a time period which is a task of organization more than anything else. A needed task, but I won't make it out to be more than it is. I've known who she is for some time.
My mistake, it is a "doctorate" from an unaccredited institution. That doesn't even deserve the laughing smilie. Also, if you are going to talk about disease, it is fitting to note that this "Ph.D" has nothing to do with medical studies.
well you would be surprised how many people think you are a millionaire working in porn! they think we all have jenna jameson salaries, even in some restaurants we get all of a sudden extra charges that sort of things!!
but if you safe good, have some investments going on, and really change your looks(believe me, without make up and extentions its a big difference)move away from LA(out of LA people just dont expect to see a pornstar in the street, so they just dont recognize as easy) and you can move on.
now with me and andrea being on TV so much its a bit harder, especially on andrea with girls screaming and stuff... (he had his own slot on a TV show here)but for now we both love the attention, when we retire, well at least we have the construction company and other things to fall back on. Just you need to prepare your retirement well during your career
I wonder what's harder? Deciding to leave the biz or getting too old and the biz doesn't want you anymore. That must really be a blow....(read about some TV stars that had fame, money, etc, but after the series folded they couldn't get work anywhere......at least regular actresses can keep trying for roles, but in porn.....)
I think its quite easy! #1 save your money #2 give up your loser mooch boyfriend #3 get back to reality an be humble, just because you have a few G's in the bank you might think your well off, YOUR NOT #4 buy inexpensive transportation and give up shopping at Nordstroms for awhile #5 get a solid education! its not really that hard if you put your mind to it!

You can't leave porn. Once you're in, you're in for life. That's what you get for $1000 for three hours of your time.
Look up the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality yourself. Wow, somebody even states that they have a Ph.D - nobody ever lies. Nobody.
That she orgainized AIM and raised awareness of disease in the industry is great. That she went on to learn things is to her credit. Some of the stuff relating to Marc Wallace, if true, is definitely not. But that doesn't give her academic credits.
