S1 E3 : The Third Way w/ Alexis Fawx & April O'Neil
The film opens with April O'Neil ( Jane ) getting a call late, it's past midnight. She's got to go to work then and there and isn't thrilled. Her boyfriend mentions the absurdity of it but April seems to know that arguing is no use. She has a good job and isn't going to lose it by refusing her boss. April gets dressed and leaves.
The sound of typewriter is heard and we see Alexis Fawx ( Veronica ) sitting at a desk hammering away. She's got very red lipstick on and a revealing suit with a drape like cut to it with no undershirt. { for comic nerds this totally looks like something Lucifer aka Lucy would wear in The Wicked and The Divine ; which in itself sometimes feels like an homage to Bowie } She's sipping coffee and looking over papers when April arrives.
April enters meek and quiet. She lets her boss direct her to the seat to dictate what she wants typed. Alexis is quick with her criticism and makes April redo the memo she was referring to. Alexis berates April and doesn't want to let her respond to anything. She turns April around in her chair and starts to run her down on a personal level. She hates the clothes that April put on and teases her asking if she needs Alexis to baby her. April takes this without comment. Alexis eventually decides she will give her little office girl a makeover right then and there before they continue , with the remark that she isn't living up to her potential.
Shy but determined to do what she's told April strips and gets
into a short black dress while Alexis watches appraisingly from a nearby couch. Alexis stands to circle her secretary and stops to let April's hair down. She whispers at April to look at her and then quietly applies some of her bright red lipstick. A long considered sigh and Alexis still isn't happy. She tells April to follow her.
There is a quick cut and Alexis is telling April to take her glasses off. We see she's put her hair up again too - but this time in a formal manner and not just up with a scrunchie like before. Alexis makes April model for her , correcting her posture and spots another problem. She wants to see April in heels but notices with exasperation that her toes aren't even painted.
Next Alexis makes April sit while she paints her toenails. The polish is also a bright red. As she does this Alexis lectures April about taking the time to be your best self. Alexis confesses to liking the smell of nail polish and takes a foot up almost kissing it to inhale the scent. Alexis keeps on about her personal philosophy on empowerment.
April asks nervously if they can get back to the memo. We cut back to the desk and April is again typing while her boss dictates. They only get a few lines in before Alexis is whispering sensuously into April's ear. For the first time that night Mrs. Fawx is full of praise. She says she appreciates April coming in so late and says it shows just the kind of initiative , loyalty and respect she likes. She even broaches the subject of a promotion into management.
April's breath catches and she asks quietly what she would need to do. There is a pregnant pause and a long stare down when Alexis spins April's chair around and advances on her so she's eye to eye. She doesn't mince words and says that April will have to finish that memo.. while Alexis makes her come.. April turns back , without having responded and Alexis comes close to her ear again asking if her silence is a yes, licking her eat. Here we see mostly April's upper half and hear Alexis' excited sounds of eating. There are some good close ups of April's painted toes curling as she rests her feet up on her desk. She types amid the mingled moans and Alexis taunts her as she sucks her pussy. This features some good looks at April's bush and the intense eyes of Alexis gazing up at her prey.

This was another very good episode of Girlcore that felt perfectly was cast. April played the shy office girl so well - her quiet expressions and quivering lip said a lot even in silent moments.
Alexis also really went all in on her character portrayal of a woman in power. I loved that while she was super assertive what she really wanted for the most part was to please her employee. I tend to like that dynamic more than just wanting to be pleased for some reason.
The area where everything took place did mean some restrictions in angles but I did enjoy the creative ways that were found to get some close ups. I never tire of seeing those shots where the giver's eyes are looking up at her partner and we saw a few good examples of that here.
I already mentioned that I appreciated the lighting when the action was actually taking place on the desk. I do wish more time was spent there but that's a rather small complaint.
This one was all about atmosphere and tone and that's where it was so strong. I liked the simple story and the emphasis on close eye contact between April and Alexis. Where the first scene included a lot of musical backdrop and and the second included multiple onlookers that were not just extras but a built in audience - this scene's quiet space and more singular focus allowed it to have a private feeling to everything which is a good contrast.
So far this scene is the first ( I think ) to place itself in a more exact year referencing 1987. Being a story nerd these little details are very appreciated. Also as someone who grew up around 80's word processors the sound triggered childhood memories for me too.
The 60 plus minutes of this episode were well used. About one third was spent on setup so we got about 40 minutes of sex in total. The undressing and simmering staredown were a good way to build tension.
I know the storyline called for the makeover but I still loved April's look in a sweatshirt , leggings and glasses. It was cool to see both casual fashion of the era alongside the more glam looks too.
Overall a great third installment of Girlcore. Well acted and well written.
