Lately i've come across a few scene where the girls are obviously out of it, either drunk, high or just plain spaced out. I wondered if this is a common thing in the porn world. Had Young & Glorious going yesterday (very late purchase) and it was easy now to see that something had changed with Tanner Mayes already in her second pornsummer. In a recent podcast discussion with the novelist Bret Easton Ellis, James Deen said that many porn studios and directors, him included, have a strictly enforced policy against shooting high or drunk performers. Plenty of pornstars casually smoke weed in their day to day lives. As for harder drugs, it seems to be a less of a problem than it was in the past but who knows? Most the scenes I've seen in which pornstars appear to be drunk or high are older scenes from the gonzo era, so Deen may be telling the truth when he says that studios have cracked down.
I've seen photos of Remy LaCroix and Jada Stevens on set getting high. So it might not be totally uncommon. Don't remember who either of them were shooting for though. Remy and Jada seem like well-adjusted women who own their sexuality. So I don't think either of them were doing it to "blank out." They were doing it for the reason most people like to smoke weed: they like to get high! And having sex while high is awesome.
^I've also seen pics of those two getting high before scenes and I've seen Jada with Kristina Rose too. The infamous brazzers live scene were Jennifer White showed up on muscle relaxers. It's pretty routine for Pornfidelity/TeenFidelity from what I've seen. If you watch any of the BTS, you'll almost always see the performers drinking, either before or after the scene. It seems encouraged, actually. They also have no qualms about showing the girls smoking pot. I'm kind of ambivalent about it, especially when it comes to weed, but in some of the scenes, the girl is so clearly fucked up that it's just depressing. In my porn utopia, every scene features two performers that are stone sober and genuinely love having sex with each other, but I'm not naive. I still thought that more than a handful of scenes on that site were disturbing, though.
If any of that is true ... just wow! Really sad and pathetic. Totally agree with you on the two people "genuinely love having sex with each other". That's why I am such a fan of Mason's work. She brings people together to make the scene ridiculiously good. Could be wrong, since I'm not on set beforehand, but her movies work for that reason and no one seems blunted out of their minds.
I have felt that in many of the Mike Adriano anal scenes the girls seem high.Their eyes are always different from when they do other scenes.I feel for anal many girls do take some drugs or do drink a bit.But i could be wrong.The Alexis Ford scene with him surely seemed like she had taken something. ^^^I've seen the weed and alcohol use as well (Ryan Madison also sometimes joins in) but I can't recall ever having watched a scene in which "the girl is so clearly fucked up that it's just depressing." I guess I'm not inclined to be very disturbed by that sort of thing since I've had/have/will have similar experiences, off camera of course. However, if I saw a scene in which a performer were, to quote DVDstuff, "blunted out of their minds" it would set off red flags for me.
Jada, Remy and a couple others seem to celebrate getting high. That's cool. They're adults and can make decisions that give them pleasure (no pun intended). But having the production company partaking or allowing drugs and/or alcohol to be on tables laying around and off-handedly encouraging it ... Is this the 70s? I guess I'm stupid enough to believe that the "rockstar" lifestyle isn't floating around the adult industry anymore and it is a business.

One thing that no one has mentioned is that marijuana increases libido and sexual pleasure in a lot of people. Shyla is perhaps one such person. Maybe Jada and Remy are too. Plenty of wo/men would agree from experience with Mister Fahrenheit: "having sex while high is awesome."
Who are you people? I am from the great state of Colorado where prohibition was repealed about a year ago an an ounce of really great weed will cost you less than a good sushi dinner. If they were using marijuana it is a prescription medication in California (where a lot of porn is made, I would have said most before Weinstein came in and fucked everything up with his mandatory condumb bullshit). State law in CA may not allow for producers to disallow prescribed marijuana's use before a scene as long as there aren't any safety issues (like using too much at one time and becoming impaired from its use). I am not an expert but can say knowingly that not all marijuana use is to get high nowadays. For the record I agree with James Deen's policy not to allow people impaired by drugs (legal or illegal) to perform in sex scenes but with marijuana being prescription in CA any cancellation of a scene there because of prescription marijuana use is dicey and if a producer does so he better be able to prove impairment.
I am aware that Kristina Rose uses marijuana from time to time but haven't heard of her being impaired before a scene (there is a picture of her floating around smoking a joint purported to be on set but I cannot confirm the authenticity of it having been taken on a porn set). I think pot is a lot like alcohol (never tried pot so I can't speak from experience) in that one or two joints won't impair you, just make you feel relaxed. Obviously it will take less of a high quality pot than the cheap stems and powder variety, (as Barcardi 151 will get you drunk quicker than a case of Busch beer) someone with actual experience using it could probably say much more than I but I would think it still takes a fair amount to impair someone. Jennifer White taking muscle relaxers before a scene should not have put her out of commission unless she took considerably over the prescribed amount. I have a back injury and have taken them myself, I would have to take half of a bottle (at least 50 pills) to even come close to that effect -- and I have prescription opiates on board as well when taking them. Certainly if she were obviously impaired I would have cancelled the scene, whether live or not. Tanner Mayes has had one hell of a meth problem, it is noted on many adult industry boards and there is even a documentary about working with her in that condition. It is a shame that she fell for the lure of meth, it has even negatively affected her appearance. I will note that other performers have been rumored to use or support legalized pot besides Kristina, Remy and Jada. Marley Blaze said in a Kink interview that she supports legalization and wears a hat with pictures of marijuana on it in the interview (to go that far I think she probably uses pot from time to time as well although she does not directly say so). I recall seeing a post on a performer's Twitter advertising a deal at a LA area pot dispensary with the appropriate prescription, IIRC it was on Veruca James' Twitter but since it has been a few months I could be mistaken on the performer's name (I could think of a bunch of sexually dirty things to do with Veruca, too, whether she be high or not). Karla Kush has also supposedly used pot from time to time. My point is that people can use pot from time to time and not fuck up at work or get arrested for either public drunkenness or drunk driving because of it, we should not judge someone based on their pot use just as we don't call people that have a few margaritas at a Mexican restaurant with dinner lushes. I subscribe to the thought that if someone is impaired a director should cancel the scene and deal with the consequences later but even I can accept that one joint or a few drinks aren't going to impair someone to that level (certainly alcohol/non-prescription pot/non-prescription other drug use should be banned on-set).
There is a great amateur scene of a Wasted Chick at Mardi Gras. If I had to guess, she was on a number of things, including XTC. Unfortunately, it is truly amateur content, so it isn't available for sale, and the site's rules prevent me from telling you how to see it.
I believe that's what she said she was on in a tweet or interview, but your right I think she was on something stronger. I video is extremely embarrassing to watch for Jennifer. ^I don't think she's high in her scenes, I just think she's super laidback and I say that because she is the same way in all her interviews too.

Seems to depend on the director and company. Pot certainly seems common but I would be surprised if the male performers overindulged too often as that could impare their performance unless they're using viagra I guess.

Most of my best sexual experiences were while I was under the influence of drugs, so I can understand why some of these women might want to get high before a shoot. Maybe they're not trying to numb themselves, but rather they're looking for a way to enhance the experience. I've found neither alcohol nor opiates does much to improve sex for me, though. It might work for someone else. Different people have different responses.

It is not common for porn stars to develop serious drug habits during their career. A number of them have taken leaves of absence because of it. Cut them some slack. If we in the normal world need a drink or a toke to let our inhibitions run wild, why shouldn't they?
^ It isn't uncommon for people in almost any walk of life to develop a massive alcohol or other drug habit. In academia and the executive suite it is alcohol, in rock music it is cocaine and benzodiazepines. In financial trading it is cocaine or amphetamines. In porn it seems to be meth or pot. I don't see where drugs are any more of a problem in porn than they are in the executive suite of Fortune 500 companies, it is just different drugs that are being taken and the drug of choice in the latter is more socially and legally acceptable in the US. Frankly until it affects someone's day job by someone coming in drunk/high it just isn't any of their bosses damn business.

AMEN, brother! I don't know what kind of backwards, prohibitionist mindset a lot of these people are coming from, but as a Californian we have a VERY relaxed attitude towards weed - prescription or recreational (even though the latter is not *officially* legal, but for all intents & purposes, it's semi-legal). Some of you have a very strange worldview IMO. First of all, the VAST majority of porn girls I have meet in person (about 20) are tokers. For the most part most stoners smoke pretty regularly, many of us daily, like one would drink coffee. I find it beyond amusing, that folks here have no problem - nay, encourage girls (& guys) to get naked & have sex on camera, but are offended/taken aback when they are not sober. I think many people would have an issue with the former not the later (would you rather catch your sister, daughter, niece, aunt, etc. smoking a joint in the alley or see her in a porno? Think about that for a second). What makes most of you think that the directors, producers, studio owners, execs, etc. are not fans of Maryjane themselves? Maybe some of them even smoke out together before shooting commences. Perhaps the whole crew is high, who knows? If they don't tell you, you would most likely never guess. Also, as many of you have pointed out, weed is not only prevalent in the world of porn, but in real life. Hate to burst your bubbles, but chances are when you see one of your favorite bands/singers/rappers performing live, many are most likely also high. When you watch a regular Hollywood movie, many of the actors are probably also high during some scenes of the movie to take off the edge. So many clueless posts in this thread assuming that people are concerned about recreational pot or other kinds of drug use. Seems clear that the real concern is that any kind of drug use on set could raise issues of consent, either legitimate or not, after the shoot. Interesting topic. From what I've read in Jenna's autobiography there was some drug use and alcohol use on set; but never to the extent that someone was totally out of it. A while ago a girl I'd been following for sometime on Twitter and had watched numerous of her films had made some major changes to her appearance. She made no attempt to hide her obvious love of alcohol starting back when she was a teenager (so what else is new) Anyway, she's shooting this scene for Naughty America and while the guy is doing her doggie she's propping herself with her elbows forward and you can see the track marks on her inner left arm. Suddenly, the scene changes and her arms are turned inward, no track marks visible. (Somebody must have noticed) She also Tweeted a picture of herself going through a drive-in and you could really see the track marks. Then suddenly last year she goes "dark" on Twitter for almost seven weeks except for those idiotic Twittascopes. There was a lot of talk on some blogs that she was using heavy drugs and had become unreliable and difficult to work with. Your comments about director's taking a chance or liability are real concerns, and just give people already critical of the industry more ammo.
