Having a little too much time on my hands the other day I began thinking about the different mechanisms used in gonzo movies to build up to the actual sex.
So far I've come up the following categories and examples, but please feel free to add your own.
The first category is the 'scenario'. This is usually a short sketch where the woman doesn't take on a character as such but may take on a persona such as a maid or a nurse or a girl whose car has broken down. Examples would be Brazzers, Erik Everhard.
The second is what I call the 'camera tease'. This is where the girl teases for the camera and will often talk to the camera or follow directions such as bending over. Examples would include Jules Jordan and Robby D.
The third is the 'chat-up'. This is where the girl is approached by the director and / or the male talent and is persuaded to go with them. Examples would include Buttman, Ben Dover.
The fourth is the interview. This is self-explanatory and examples would include Break’ in 'em in and some Zero Tolerance titles.
The fifth is the 'striptease or dance'. This is where the girl performs a dance or striptease outside of the scene and we then cut to the start of the sex scene. Examples include Big Wet Asses.
The sixth is the 'situation'. This is similar to the scenario but is where the talent does not take on a role as such but is put into a situation. An example would be a woman walking into a male washroom by mistake. Examples include Manuel Ferrara.
The seventh is the 'straight down to it'. Essentially there is no build up with the sex starting immediately with the participants either clothed or naked.
I would be interested to know if anyone else can come up with any other distinct build-ups, and in particular, what your favorites are and why.
For me, the point of the build up is to build the anticipation of what is to come. It is also about introducing the woman to the viewer both physically and personality wise. This is why my particular favorites are the scenario and the talking camera as I think that they do this well.
