I personally think you are seeing it slow you down. But you'll find nobody at Google who will ever admit to this.

If I click on something it works all right up until about 95% of the little blue bar is full and then it hits the "Waiting for google-analytics.com" message. This bogs down the works for two or three minutes on every thread, forum, or link I click on. When I use Chrome I have periods where everything works fine for about ten to twenty minutes and then everything sputters and freezes up. If this happens while I am making a post it usually unfreezes just long enough for me to type two or three letters and then hesitates some more, lets me type another couple of letters and then hangs up some more. If I wait long enough everything returns to normal for another ten to twenty minutes where the cycle is repeated. I have already checked my anti-virus and it is not picking up any kind of virus or malware when I do a scan. [Link] |

FF does it, Thunderbird does it, and AVG does it now. A real pain in the ass. I prefer to wait until I've finished 'surfing' and then start the up-date download before disconnecting. While I'm at it, I also detect a trend toward designing web pages assuming it will be accessed at high speed. When AVG, FF and Thunderbird all start to give me an up-date and I'm trying to view a web page that assumes I have a high speed connection, it can take over minutes, as in more than two (if it doesn't time out) to get from one page to another. Then there is the web page that uses pop-up windows for data entry. Why they do that is beyond me, since all the browsers tout the fact that they automatically block pop-ups. The 'new' Charles Schwab web site has re-designed this pop-up approach to the point that FF wouldn't even load it even when I turn that blocking function off, never mind telling FF that pop-ups from Schwab should not be blocked. I now have to fire up my copy of IE when I access Schwab's web site. It's the only time I use IE. As soon as I load it, it calls home and tries to download up-dates. At least the version I have allow me to dis-connect that call and re-direct it back to the Schwab web site. I thought Internet programs (applications) were going to become more compatible over time. The opposite seems to be the case. I guess at some point PCs won't work on the Internet and one will have to buy a throw-away cell phone to access 'the cloud' and after a few weeks, throw it away and get a new one that has all the latest up-grades, functions, etc. [Link] |
