It traces the history of the form from the beginning of cinema, through the 'stags' and 'smokers', to the feature length hardcore of the seventies and early eighties. It also proposes an interesting typography of the genre. As far as i can recall, there's nothing in there about Gonzo. Of course, that would be off topic because the book is about adult features rather than pornography per se.   [Link] |

Linda Williams is, I suspect, the brightest mind in academia to break the paradigm of the "academician" who approaches porn with pre-determined prejudices & conclusions, rather than apply the rigorously fair perspective she's shown.
