Because is contains a clip of Linda Lovelace actually performing deep throat, it has an NC-17 rating. Because most newspapers in the US won't allow advertising for NC-17 movies, not many theaters will carry them. If I want to see it, I will need to go to Manhattan. I guess I'll be waiting for the DVD. [Link]

I hate giving any press to that diaster, but had to for this reason. besides which since it's a re-release and the fact that it's a historical film now that might give it some credence. I don't expect to catch it around the corner here in the middle of Iowa, but you might find it in more places then just lower Manhattan. [Link]

Reviews are mostly good -- though I imagine it's a bit over-defined by its obvious made-for-cable style. I saw "Deep Throat" in 1978 at a party and recall actually being disgusted. It was probably the first hardcore porn I'd ever seen. I didn't think much of it. "Misty Beethoven" or "Satisfiers of Alpha Blue" are much better as porn and as film, I'd argue. [Link]

As a social phenomenon, it has undeniable power, especially considering Linda Lovelace's accusations and claims about the circumstances surrounding the movie. As a porn film, though, it's really not particularly good. I did read Linda Lovelace's autobiography many years ago as well. I can't remember what it was called. In any case, I do remember her saying that her times on the set of Deep Throat were actually some of the few fun times she had. It was her relationship with the guy that coerced (threatened) her into doing it (can't remember his name now) and some of the crazy-ass, boneheaded, and downright despicable things he did to her that had nothing to do with Deep Throat that were really horrible. It's hard to know for sure what the true story is, but I do know that some of the things she described in her book were very very disturbing and upsetting. It wasn't so much an indictment of porn, as I remember it, it was an indictment of that particular man, and how almost everyone they came in contact with either unwittingly or not, became his accomplice in what would best be described as her slavery to him. They were on Charlie Rose this week discussing it. MLyons, Chuck Traynor was the husband you were trying to remember. Skronker, it's funny, but Deep Throat and Satisfiers of Alpha Blue were both made by Gerard Damiano. I don't know if you knew this already. He made many great films including The Devil in Miss Jones. I guess he's in the documentary as he was photographed at the opening night. [Link]

If you have to see one film of that era, see The Devil in Miss Jones . The only good things about Deep Throat were that it got millions of people in "polite" society talking about oral sex and that it broke a lot of ground and paved the way for the porn industry of today. Now, please excuse me, I have to get back to watching my latest Keri Sable scene (a one-on-one with Julian in Innocence: Wild Child - scorchingly hot!) Unfortunately, I was correct that it isn't being shown anywhere on Long Island and, if I really wanted to see it in a theater, I would have to go to Manhattan to see it at the closest theater. [Link]

Back in the Stone Age (when I was younger and my cock still turned to stone :), I remember Deep Throat and The Devil In Miss Jones running as a double-feature, continuously for about two years, at the Montauk Theatre in Passaic, NJ. It was towards the end of the run that I finally got up enough nerve to actually go into the theatre! Many fondly remembered years of whacking-off in the dark to porn I'd never trade whacking-off to DVD porn in the privacy of your own home to go back to the "Raincoat" days... BUT, I can tell you that NOTHING was as exciting as the early days of whacking-off to porn in a public theatre! And Deep Throat was when the "Golden Era" started. [Link]

But anyway, I did catch "Inside Deep Throat" a couple months ago and found it very interesting. I was by far the youngest person in the audience by about 30 years, but still we all seemed to find it pretty funny in parts, too. I found the Harry Reems segments the most interesting. Was he really too drunk to even stand? I've seen him in some 80's stuff (during his so-called drunken days) and he seemed fine. But anyway, can't wait for the DVD. [Link]
