As mentioned in another Forum ,TBS started playing "Saved By The Bell" in HD even though it was not filmed in HD in the 90's. Can HD improved a video? And I mean not just size wise. Doesn't blowing up a video just show more of it's flaws? Can I record an HDTV signal with a DVD recorder and get a good quality picture. When are the BlueRay recorder going to be sold in major stores?

The real limiting factor was/is the resolution available via standard broadcast television and standard television sets (i.e. lines of resolution).
I'm thinking that, most, if not all, television was filmed in higher-quality (certainly not "HD") than standard broadcast television and standard television sets allowed to be seen.
So, releasing older material formatted to take advantage of what HDTV can now offer, is not as crazy as it sounds.
It's not "HD," but it probably does look better than the original NTSC broadcasts did.

Thanks bigbob, that makes sense. So it is not exactly garbage in garbage out and it depends on the end screen and not just the original material. The Zapruter film is now better thru technology than in 1963. Who knows what old material will wind up being in the future. It is just electronic pixels after all. The 500 yottabyte computer might do things with old pixels we can not even imagine like turning our brainwaves dreams in HD movies.
Would like more discusion on this topic.

It really depends on what is being done with the program prior to broadcast. A few years ago, HDNet was airing episodes of Hogan's Heroes in HD. However, prior to airing these shows, they were remastered from the original film to HD. So the picture was great. However, most of the time the TV stations are just upconverting the original material to HD. When they do this, I agree with BigBobXXX that "It's not "HD," but it probably does look better than the original NTSC broadcasts did."

Plan on buying a HDTV pretty soon and want to record sexy/funny images on DVD. I have a DVD/VCR combo. Will that get me a reasonably good recording of the HDTV. The Blueray recorders will need to go under $1,000 before I buy one. My first VCR cost $795. I am used to a Fios picture quality.
