I'm just a low-level poster here at ADT, but I have a suggestion.
I've noticed that a lot of posters aren't aware that they're supposed to include the brackets [ ] when using a Emoticon/Smilie in the Icon Legend. Because of this, all that can be seen are letters and/or symbols.
It would make for a better forum if their intentions were to come to fruition when making their comments.
Maybe a bulletin could be posted letting everyone know about it, or at very least, specifically make it clear in the directions that the brackets have to be included as was done for the Markup Text instructions.

I guess I'm guilty too because I Copy & Paste when I use it!
Maybe a Sticky can be placed on each of the most popular topics. Maybe the heading can be something like:
Remember to include brackets when posting Smilies & text features in the Icon Legend & Markup Text. Just Copy & Paste.

I don't use emotes very often, so when I do I often forget about the brackets. Every forum has its idiosyncracies, and I often find myself having to remember where I am and what's available there.
