Okay, I went to a less than crap site, and I had my firewall disabled for some reason. (Don't ask, don't know why.) Well, I got a popup for a download or something, trying to close the box in haste, I hit accept or something, instead of not accept. Now whenever I run Ad-aware, I keep getting one registry value that doesn't seem deletable or quaranteenable, and every time I run this program, my IE homepage of "about:blank" goes to MSN.com.

Is there a registry value that can be deleted to avoid this?

or
Is there another way I could get rid of this?

If this is unclear, please let me know, it is 1am, my eyes are closing fast, and this is rather annoying.

I'd recommend to have Spybot Search&Destroy have a go at this...

Sounds like format and reinstall time

I find it so much easier to just do that then play around in the reg. Plus you also get a system that runs like a new one for a while since it's not all gunked up with clutter

regedit should fix it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
under "start menu", just type in the addy you want, you might want to see if anything else looks like it shouldn't be there.

I had a similar problem Browser Hijack busted me and I got stuck with a bogus file "Bridge.dll". After running Spybot and Adaware, Norton's I began doing a little searching for a cure and contacting a few friends who deal with this type BS on a regular basis. They recomended a cool program called "HijackThis V1.97.7". It makes it a lot easier and safer to go into your registry and fix major problems. Run a google and you can find a ton of hits on the program and info about it. Or if you have a specific program causing you trouble check out the forum at computer Cops to see if there is any specific info on the one causing you trouble it also has links where you can download HijackThis.

Warning though as with anytime you begin messing with your Registry directly be sure to find out what you are deleting before you delete it. Another way Google comes in handy.

With the amount of stuff/crap I have inside my computer, I wouldn't dare reformat anything, I've done that before, and don't look forward to doing it again. Besides, my system is fairly uncluttered, and to reformat, that would take longer to do than I feel like.

Thanks Frigo and jamesboston, for the advice, I'll be looking into those suggestions, but that reformat idea isn't something I'm too keen on.

I'm just some dumb Porn Star, but sometimes the obvious is what you need to look at. Under IE options, the "home Page" is defined. Your Description of "About:blank" is how IE shows No homepage defined. I would almost bet that has been changed. Might want to just check your IE Browser Options before messing with the reg files.

No dumber than me, but I think I did figure it out, as it hasn't done anything odd, since yesterday.

There's a program out there called "HiJack This!" and a web discussion board that may be able to help you. I had a problem about a year ago similar to what you are describing. I'm sorry, but I don't have the links. If you search on Google, you should be able to find it.

Also, Webroot Spy Sweeper may be able to find nasty stuff that Search & Destroy and Ad-aware miss.

Do a search for "HiJack this",there is thread with that title (sorry but I can't post the link to the thread without my logon details being on display) the folks there are very helpful and will walk you through a problem until it's solved if you post your issue to the forum.
