Bob  All-Star Member 5516 Posts 3/03 | Posted - Oct 31 2007 : 10:40AM Use the "search" function to locate a file (document) that was in the My Documents folder. If you find one, look at the file tree and see where that file (and the My Documents folder) went to. Then you can copy (rather than "cut" for safety's sake) and paste the My Documents folder back to where you want it. Once it's back, you can delete the duplicate My Documents folder. Good luck! Also, if the directory has been corrupted (where you're not seeing the files which are STILL there), you need to find a utility that will rebuild the directory. Minimize your use of the computer until you fix this so that your files don't get over-written. My recommendation (for an initial cost-free solution... it may be this easy) is: 1. Launch "Command Prompt" (Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt) 2. Type in "chkdsk/f" 3. Type in "Y" when you receive the "in use warning" 4. Restart your computer [Link] |

| AztecGold11 Member 514 Posts 8/05 | Posted - Nov 6 2007 : 4:28PM In August I fell from a ladder and hit the back of my head causing a very large hematoma--I applied Ice and all seemed Ok. I saw a Neurologist to be sure--had a skull series of x-rays-a CT scan and a EEG--all within normal limits. In early October I started being uncoodinated, having loss of balance when walking and kept falling. Back to the Neurologist-was admitted to the hospital on 10/31--had an MRI of the head--diagnosis Subdural Hematoma. Off to surgery-- had a Craniotomy to drain the blood. (Punch hole in skull and insert tube). I just got discharged today. Dr. said it was a Slow bleed so it took nearly 2 months to become problematic--a Fast bleed would have killed me in minutes or hours. NOW back to my computer.... [Link] |

I can't vouch for any of them because I haven't used any. But I like the idea of installing one relatively small utility over Norton's big package. At least at this juncture. If it's really super-critical, you may want to take the computer in to a professional and ask him/her to do it for you. They might be able to save data you wouldn't normally be able to find.
