budtugley Senior Member One man's trash can be the next man's treasure. 1187 Posts 1/04	Posted - Oct 24 2006 : 3:54PM Anybody using this new Microsoft browser? It supposedly has antiphishing technology, an RSS reader, built-in tabbed browsing, and a re-designed Favorites Center. You have to have Windows XP Service Pack 2, but it runs on older IE6 code and most folks know how slow Microsoft is in patching security holes in IE 6. It still hasn't complied with current web standards like Firefox or Opera. 2 1/2 years of development for this? Apparently, Microsoft wants to tempt people to switch to the new Microsoft Vista operating system the newest version was released last week, Windows Vista RC2 build 5744. Hey, it only costs $399. Expect another interim build before the final version is released sometime in early 2007. Internet Explorer 7 will be part of Microsoft Vista. Any brave soul out there try IE 7 yet? [Link]

If given the choice, I'm sticking with IE6 (a devil I know and seem to have tamed :) Hopefully, this won't be one of those "updates" that will nag you forever because you chose not to install it [Link]

Click to expand Still using IE 6 here....and will continue to until I can't use it anymore or 7 does something I need that 6 won't do. I'll NEVER pay $399 for software! I don't care how much R&D cost. That could still easily be absorbed (simply by virtue of the fact that millions will buy it) without charging people an arm and a leg for an OS. The next time I upgrade my OS will probably be the next time I buy a computer. [Link]

I stopped using IE because of the security threats and became addicted to Firefox. Firefox 1.5 is good but I've upgraded to try Firefox Beta 2.0 RC2. I love the integrated spell checking but a few of my favourite extensions (now called Add-ons) haven't been updated to work with it yet. [Link]

Now all my first view sites (ADT, Davis DVD, TV Shows on DVD) all load upon opening IE. [Link]

Harry Joystick Member 740 Posts 8/02	Posted - Oct 25 2006 : 6:13PM I installed IE 7 out of desperation. IE 6 kept locking up on many web sites, I believe it's ActiveX related. I couldn't even go to Windows Update without IE 6 hanging. It looks kinda cool so far. If it screws my browser up even more I can always reformat, which is what I was trying to avoid. [Link]
BigBobxxx Senior Member 2681 Posts 5/04	Posted - Nov 2 2006 : 7:49AM Well, it's happened. IE 7 was the "critical update" this morning. Fortunately, I caught it and didn't install it. Clicked on "don't show me this update again." Now we'll see how the nagging goes. [Link]

It's a far better browser than IE6 (at least from a user interface perspective). By the way, I know we have a lot of Firefox users here, but just so you know, Firefox isn't all it's cracked up to be. It makes no difference in usage and the two entities make it clear they are seperate. IE 7 isn't as flexible as Firefox. Some extentions cost money. The one thing I do like is the tab that gives me large thumbnails of my other tabs. [Link]

Nor can you bring back prematurely closed tabs, rather you must open them back up again. I hate the way IE7 makes me add new search engines. Frightfully inelegant. [Link]

After reviewing some sites that have discussed it, I'm probably going to download it and try it out, if I ever get time. vodka tonic coolest cucumber who 1243 Posts 11/02	Posted - Nov 25 2006 : 12:43PM I installed it yesterday evening and I like it. Nothing much different, but the toolbar is thinner, which gives more space for the various websites. Likely because of this, text fonts look clunkier, but that's okay. Also, since I now have the choice of integrating my favourite searh engine into the regular toolbar, I could get rid of my google toolbar, which was taking even more space out of my screen. So far, so good. [Link]
