But in all of these cases, they play video games together, and actually talk to each other. (One married couple I know courted while playing a video game.) To me the core issue isn't whether you've met, talked or whatever. Relationships are reciprocal: I am my father's son, my brother's brother, and my friends' friend. If Keisha considers him a fan, then he is a fan. If they both consider the other a friend, then they are friends.I wouldn't toss around the word "stalker." First of all it's hurtful. Moreover, the rise of mass culture has created an unnatural set of relationships, in which one party to the relationship is almost completely unaware of the other individuals in the relationship. I have strong feelings for people I have never met. I get angry at politicians– real live anger at people I have never met in real life. If I were to meet Dick Cheney, and do what comes naturally, namely expressing my anger, the secret service would likely consider me a threat, and would act to protect him. Of course, I would never do this. For one, I naturally hold Cheney in contempt, and never want to have any kind of relationship with him whatsoever. This means we will probably never meet. So while I would avoid all contact with Dick Cheney, I might just show up at a DVD signing or strip club just to meet Keisha. But then what? We have a very unnatural relationship. She would know that I jerk off to her, and I would know that she doesn't even know my name. If I were to do the natural thing, and ask her if I could buy her dinner, she would (rightly) consider it stalkerish. The PornStar-Fan relationship is doubly unnatural. Sexual relationships stir strong emotions (lust is just as strong an emotion as anger), and sexual relationships are naturally intimate. If someone were to have strong sexual feelings towards another person, and NOT want to get to know that person better, then we would rightly say that the first person has intimacy issues. Bumblaster is one step above attachment disorder, IMO. But I don't judge him my brothers. We are all perverts. The art of living is finding the middle way between two extremes.
