Well, its not a simple answer, everyone is different. For me, I don't like the idea of doing the same thing for ever. I like to try new things, so pushing the boundaries into extreme things is fascinating, fun, and can be thrilling. Some things I like, some things I find terrible. It's a journey. Porn is a very good way to go on that journey safely, to find out what you may want to try or stay away from, and a good way to have conversations with your partners about trying some new things. When I first got high speed internet and could look around more, I found myself looking to see anything and everything available out there. Even stuff that is too extreme for me to enjoy, I would still want to experience viewing it. The last few years after I turned 40, I embraced my sexuality a lot more and became confident talking about it with others. So yes, i share this and that with women I start to date or get close to. ^I shared this to answer the part of your question about sharing things with girlfriends. It was not meant as a brag, so you can ignore that part if you wish to not believe it. My fascination with pee goes back as far as I can remember. When I saw my first softcore porn on late night cable in middle school, I was already into pee. A lot of people enjoy pee play as a fun and kinky sex act, but for me, it's pretty close to the core of my sexuality. I am lucky to have a wife who enjoys pee play. ^it really is a beautiful thing when you can share your deepest fantasies and desires with your partner. I am happy to hear you are sharing it with your wife.
It's a desensitization process I think. I started watching rough porn as a teen, and stumbled across the "face fucking" genre - it was still pretty novel at that time. The fact that women were willing to denigrate themselves and put up with such abuse, fascinated my young and impressionable mind. From then it was just a combination of seeking out more, and the industry knowing to put out even more extreme content to draw us is each time. How much will she put up with? Is there anything she won't do? As you can see, that game can be taken to many extremes. I don't even think pain or vomit are regarded as being "very extreme" anymore.
