It depends on the pornstar but I remember a Ben Dover title where two girls (Hannah Harper was one of them) claimed they were turned on by the idea of guys rubbing one out to them on film.
I'm sure many realize that is the purpose. I don't necessarily believe it turns on many of them. I'd also guess that as long as fans keep that in their own private homes, and aren't jerking off (or start being jerks) if you see your favorite star at the grocery store or a restaurant... they are also fine with that.

I saw an interview with Joanna Angel once and she was talking about meeting fans at expos and such, and said if you aren't comfortable being around guys that jerk off to you, then the business isn't for you. I think most of the women that are in porn for any amount of time have enough awareness of human sexuality to know men jacking off to them is positive and some probably even derive satisfaction themselves in their work accomplishing that. A small few are probably at the ends of either side of the issue; finding it arousing while others just don't want to think about it at all and are repulsed. No matter the case, so long as they're acting that they're awesome with it, I take them at their word on it. It's a bit of fan engagement so to speak. Yeah, I've never been to any conventions or anything but if I did go and see one of my favorite performers I'd proabably just tell them I'm a big fan or that I think they're beautiful. The implications of being a "big fan" are probably pretty clear to them. No need to spell it out.

A few people are failing to see the very clear distinction between a pornstar knowing her fans are jacking off to her videos, and a guy telling her to her face that he likes jacking off to her videos. I would imagine that nearly all female porn stars like the idea of guys jacking off to their vids, because that demonstrates arousal. But when a guy tells her, "Oh my god, you're so sexy! I love to jack off to your videos!" to her in person, chances are pretty good that she'll smile and say "Thank you", but some women might be a little disgusted by a comment like this. The situation reminds me of something that happened to me many years ago. Back in college, there was a girl named Camille who lived in my dorm and she had a serious crush on me. I thought she was cool, but I wasn't attracted to her at all. One night, a group of people from my dorm had a party and Camille ended up getting drunk. I jack off to your videos!", she's probably a lot less likely to get disgusted by the statement. Very similar to my situation - if Camille had been a really hot girl, I would have been really turned on if she told me she dreamed about me and rubbed herself!

Really, that's what you're going with, customer feedback? No one's being a prude here at all. But on the off chance you get to meet a performer, you're going to open with "huh huh, I jerked off to you last night, huh huh! Instead of being slightly less creepy with a "Hi, I'm Bill, it's nice to meet you, I'm a big fan and I really love you're work?" Try it sometime, you'd be surprised at the reaction you might get. It's known as being polite. As one who has worked a porn convention or 2 providing escorting/security to some of the girls, I can tell you first hand that they might smile and say thank you or some other pleasantries, but the minute you're not in the picture, they're rolling their eyes and calling you names. Most fans are polite, but there is a reason some of the bigger stars hired guys like me, and it's to keep guys like you away from them, because just because you've spanked it off to them, it doesn't mean you have a special bond or connection with them. It means you're creep and you jerk off to porn, nothing more, nothing less.
What beats me is why anyone wants to go to porn conventions. I haven't the slightest inclination. Sure, there are a lot of girls I admire but I don't particularly idolise anyone in the business. Being a 'fan' and fawning over those you perceive as having celebrity is a bit demeaning (to oneself) if you ask me. I don't view myself as inferior to anyone. Perhaps the problem here is that the fans know the lady a lot more and better than she knows them. When you watch your favorite porn-star again and again have sex with different guys in different situations, then you really do get to know her in an intimate way. And if you also fantasize about her, then this feels like she is your friend. And it's normal for guys to feel this way in such a situation. But for the porn-lady, vast majority of her fans are total strangers to her. She has never met them and has never seen them before. And it's also right for to feel a little uncomfortable, when total strangers, who happen to be her fans, come onto her with some intimate details about themselves. Both the guys and the lady are right to feel the way they do. They just need to look at it from each other's point of view and compromise a little in their behavior with each other, so that they both get a little of what they need and want from their meeting with each other.

I'll say this about the conventions, especially the AEE, it's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Vegas and is an acceptable date activity and everyone should experience once. Granted when I was involved it was 7-8 years ago over at the Sands and completely different than today, but as a novelty, it's very amusing. I worked the industry only portion of the show before they opened it up to the general public and left there weighted down with about 80 lbs of DVDs, hats, t-shirts, and autographed pictures. I spent close to $100 on postage mailing out care packages to friends who live vicariously through me. The autographed pictures that I kept for myself immediately when into my swag trunk and 6 months later got tossed into the trash because what the hell am I actually doing to do with an 8x10 glossy of some porn chick that is already forgotten. I will say this though, when I left the place just as they were opening it up the general public there was a line of at least 5000 people waiting to get in at $50 a head. Lots of mopes walking around with their tongues half hanging out of their mouths because it was clear that this was their nirvana. I do remember this one mope though who couldn't be more annoying if he tried. He literally had 5 cameras and 5 calendars with him and had to take a shot of the girl with each camera and also have her autograph her birthday on each calendar. On a side note, due to a credentialing Snafu, the person giving us our credentials had to print duplicates of actual industry people so for my time working I was Victor Bang of the Bang Bros. I used to be a front row guy in Times Square, so I have interacted with Porn Stars while I was jerking off. A couple of the performers seemed to like it. Susaye London comes instantly to mind. I wasn't a particularly big tipper, and I never saw her do anything remotely like this with any other fan, so I can only conclude that she didn't mind my jerking off to her. I would say that on average girls tolerated it, and there were outliers in both directions. But Times Square in the 80s was a completely different time and place than the internet in the 2010s. Still, camming is a huge part of the industry. A lot of performers still feel comfortable interacting with fans as they are jerking off. There is a time and place for everything. Jerking off at a strip club isn't appropriate anymore. If I were to run into Susaye London, I would probably say that I used to be a fan when she used to perform on stage. If she remembered me, and brought up the topic of masturbation, I wouldn't try to pretend she was confusing me with someone else, but I wouldn't just walk up to her and say, "Do you remember me, I used to jerk off to you in Times Square?"
It's not normal, if this is all you see. Because you should also look at it from the porn-star's point of view and realize that you are a total stranger to her from her point of view. There is a saying that you don't know the truth, until you hear from both sides. And in this case, one side is you and the other is the porn-star. Pornstars are either flattered by it or they don't really care. They'd have to be stupid to not know fans jack off to them. If they don't like it then they are stupid for being in the business. Of course I think it's also stupid of a fan to tell a pornstar to their face that they jack off to her/him. If you simply tell a star that they are your favorite performer then that should be good enough. If you're some fat, ugly dude and say " I love to jack off to you" they might find that thought a little disgusting.
