How exactly do you rip the DVDs? Reencoding to another format or is it just an .iso containing the .vob files?

This post won't got into play-by-play detail on how to set things up (you can use Google to find *tons* of information about ripping DVDs, setting up a media server, using XBMC, and so forth.) But I will give a basic overview. The setup: * I have a media server in my basement. It's a basic machine in a huge case that holds around 8 hard drives with a total size of somewhere around 9TB of data. The server runs Windows Home Server but you could use any media server software that would let you share your files on a network. * Each TV in my house has some sort of media center device on it... most of them are running XBMC (available here: http://xbmc.org/ ) * I have all my ripped DVDs and website clips organized into folders and the entire database is coded and flagged. I can search all the movies by title, actor/actress, director, and so on. Check out the screenshots below to see what I'm talking about: Browsing Movies in "File View" Browsing Movies in "Cover Flow" View Browsing Movies in "Thumnails" View Browsing Movies in Detailed Library View Browsing Actors/Actresses with Bio Pictures It's a really polished way to do things and it really doesn't take that much effort to set up. The best part is that everything sans the hardware is free (I use WHS which is $99, but I use it because I use my media server for other stuff... there are tons of free media server solutions). XBMC is free, the databases you can use online to catalog your porn are free, etc. etc. Aside from the time you'll spend ripping the DVDs/organizing the movies plus the cost of the hardware to connect to your television or to run the server on, there isn't any expense. | TheCuriousDizzle Member 91 Posts 11/09 | Posted - Jan 20 2010 : 8:35AM As far as the cover art goes... most of the "scrapers" (scripts in XBMC that go and "scrape" the data about the movies from adult web sites) do a pretty good job getting the info and covers, but I like finding high resolution files online so that even outside of XBMC the images appear as folder images (XBMC stores the covers in a central database, but if you put the cover for a movie right in the folder as folder.jpg it'll appear to XBMC as well as Windows or any other media tool that uses the folder.jpg convention.)
