Where a disc has popped out of the spindle and gotten scratched? I've had that happen to me with regular dvd movies, that I've mail ordered, so I'm guessing that it probably happens with adult dvd movies, as well.

Have you noticed a trend, where for whatever reason, ordering from some companies seems to have a greater risk of receiving damaged movies?

I've lost count on how many times this has happened to me.

I don't understand why ALL companies don't switch to using the flat case that Evolution Erotica uses.

I would guess 1 out of 8 that I receive are off the spindle. I receive 50-70 per week. Every company has the same problem, except when Private uses the slim cases and the few companies who send screeners with just the disc and the cover. I don't know what Evolution is using but I love the slim Private cases.

Does this problem seem to happen more with adult movies?

Out of over 1000 DVDs, probably approaching 20% -- certainly more than 15%. About half of the loose discs are scratched to some extent. Of those, nearly 25 have been unplayable.

Yet another reason why these DVD cases are terrible. Either they grip the disc so tightly it cracks the center hole, or they don't grip them at all and let the discs fly around the inside of the case.

I very rarely order online, I buy discs at the store.. so I always test them before I buy. I have discovered many so-called "rattlers" at my local store and won't buy them. Thankfully I've never bought a disc so scratched up by this problem it's unplayable

Also thanks Steph for opening screeners and putting the disc back on the spindle before sending them out! I'm assuming that's what happened whenever I get an open one... because I've fortunately never gotten a "rattler" from ADT.

I've noticed most of my adult dvds have scratchs, and they seem to have some weird 'glue" stains on them too sometimes.I guess they just don't care about what they're doing while replicating and packaging them.

You're welcome, RLD. I don't see any point in sending out loose discs.

FF - they're screeners, but UPS definitely thinks I'm the biggest perv around.

Me too. Even if companies don't want to use slim cases because they are easier to overlook on store shelves, they should take notice of the way that the Private cases hold the discs by the edges, not the center hole. This makes so much more sense. I don't see why the same logic can't be used in a thicker case

As a retailer, I get about one disc in ten that is loose in the case, rarely is a disc damaged enuff to not play.
Poor case design.

It has only happened to me one time. I opened it up and the entire center piece was broken, but the disc is fine. No worries.

I've gotten a few loose discs. Only had 1 or 2 skip on me though.

Has anyone ever gotten them where the audio doesn't work on many or all scenes? this has happened to me several times now.. :(

These are great! I wish all my dvds were like this...imagine all the shelf space people can save. I wish mainstream movies would switch to this as well.

It happens sometimes with mainstream DVDs or CDs but I never got one that didn't play.
As for adult DVDs most stores ship them without the case to save shipping costs and to make the package easier to be overlooked by customs officers. I prefer this shipping method highly as long as I get the covers.

Studios should start using cases that have a 'tab' by the side to catch the disc even if they come loose. The tab secure the disc from moving around the box and thus prevent scratches. I have received loose discs but with the tab, the discs are not scratched.

Series like Big Cock Seductions, Good Girls Doing Bad Things from Digital Sin uses cases with the tab by the side. Those who had Digital Sin Dvds will know the tab that I'm talking about.

Extremely rarely, can't remember a recent occurence. Then again I seldom get porn DVDs in their boxes.

I agree that the slim cases are superior; I wish all companies would adopt them. However i'm a tad OCD so everything has to match. One of the major reasons I haven't seen a Private movie yet is I wouldn't like the slim cases next to all the regular-sized ones on my shelf. If everyone used them it would be o.k. but for now I'll go with the majority and use the standard clam-shell ones...

Ah ok Steph, thanks!

Just wondering, for anyone that knows, can the front and back cover artwork for the slim Private discs be transferred into a regular-sized DVD case? Or will it look weird because of the thinner spine on the Private ones?
