I just stumbled on Paige Jennings' video about the porn business, "how the porn business actually works", because her own site is coming out of beta soon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwNEk2WcLFA

Did a search in the forums and didn't see it mentioned.

Just wanted to say, she is wrong about how tubes make the bulk of their money.

Those advertisers for penis pills, cams and dating, pay pornhub, massive amounts of money. For example, that's why the former richest guy in Hungary - a billionaire - runs a cam site.

Of course it's the ad revenue. I thought everyone knew that.

The question I have is: who besides me is paying for all of this porn? I mean, there's more porn than there has ever been, but there's also more ways to get it for free. So are porn nerds like us really still footing the bill in massive numbers?

Very loose assumptions:
Let's take the combined number of north american and european interrs, which is about 600 million.
Divide that by half for the male gender: 300 million.
Divide that by half again, to only represent adult males: 150 million.
Mindgeek has about 2 million paysite members worldwide.
That means only 1.33% of eligible users, pay for porn. In other words, if you you were the only person among your group of 75 friends that paid, you would represent the statistic. Among your group of 75, paying for porn would be rare, but among the entire population of interrs, it's enough to support an industry. This is why just growing to 2% penetration, would mean doubling the entire paysite industry.

It's like what my friend always says about China: percentage-wise, there are fewer rich compared to the US, but when there are 1.3 billion Chinese, the total number is larger.

I watched several documentaries about the porn industry. I was not expecting to find out so many new things. I used to think it was all rainbows, sex, and money. As it turns out, it's not that easy for them too. Of course, pornstars have celebrity lives, but it's not the same for all of them. When starting, beginner actors have one idea - [mod edt: questionable link removed. Not necessary for your post anyway]get paid for porn and have fun doing it. The sad truth is that fun fades away quickly. All the videos are a hundred percent staged and are not so well-paid unless it's a gangbang with a hundred dudes.

Because it's a production. It must be planned before recording.

Be well
