Interesting, makes me think of my cousin that takes in foster children. She took in two babies (she intends to adopt them) and a ten year old kid that she was convinced to take in as well (and still has extra bedrooms even after accounting for her, her husband, the ten year old kid and the two babies), now CPS officers beg and plead her to take in more children just about every night. CPS officers begging her to take in more kids is ridiculous considering the state pays so little to foster parents that every kid she takes in costs her and her husband about $300 a month on top of the foster payments (meaning the foster kids she already has cost her $900 a month, she and her husband make good money at their day jobs but even they can't afford to take in the number of kids they are licensed for, IIRC they are licensed for six kids). Adding insult to injury the state only pays $125 a year per kid for clothing and $25 a kid for Christmas -- meaning that in August they get to spend their personal money on school clothes for the kids and in December they need to cough up on top of the normal monthly expenses to give the kids a few Christmas presents! This is OK to them because she is infertile and they want to adopt the children but for normal people that don't want to adopt and are just kind-hearted enough to take in foster children this kind of expense for doing a good deed and raising orphaned children is ludicrous! Maybe if the state would cover the actual costs of raising these kids they wouldn't have trouble finding foster parents.
