ok im going to way in about girls not being able to live in the real world after porn. do u know how many porn sites go up each year with the invention of gonzo hundreds. the chances of your boss seeing one of the films you were in 5-6 years ago is very slim. most ppl are casual viewers of porn not addicts like the members of this site. they only buy 1 or 2 movies a year and maybe have a couple of sites they visit per year. there are just too many movies being made.

Sasha Grey could walk in downtown chicago all day in casual clothes with some glasses right now and I gurantee maybe 1/100 person might thinks she looks familiar. if sasha retired right now even porn junkies will forget about her by this time next yr and the average american would not even have acknowlged her

so if she regrets it she wont have a hard time hiding it and thats even if she regrets it she seems to have her head on straight.

I personally have little concern what society thinks of Sasha Grey's decision to become a prostitute/sex worker, on film, at 18...people forget, new 18yo's come in, nobody really cares.

The only thing that will matter is what Sasha thinks when she looks into the eyes of her son/daughter.... maybe she can get some tips on that from Bella or Nina.... or from some of the moms like Tricia Devereaux, and see what and how she deals with Isabella.... who we only have to wait 12 more years to be legal...

...I'm sure John & Tricia are not hippocrates and would give Sasha the same advice they would give Isabella.

Morally, I think the limit should be 23 or in that area.

You can't avoid people regretting it regardless. You HAVE to take that into account, else we'd have to set the limit at 40 or even higher.

BUT you can take into account maturity and give young, naive girls a chance to think it over in the period between puberty and becoming an adult. I do not say that they are all naive, far from. But I think, from a utilitarian point of view, that putting the age limit at around 23 would save a lot of individuals from a lot of suffering.

How about if you're old enough to vote you should be old enough for porn?

Isn't that lovely? As soon as you have to be 23 to go over to Iraq and get your face blown off by an IED, maybe there'll be room for debate about this.

If one is old enought to join the military (18) and risk life and limb in Iraq, then one ought to be old enough to decide whether to do erotica.

I'm completely with out on that. Young, impressionable people should be spared of taking risks with their own physical and emotional health that they can severely regret later. And to the libertarians here, I probably do trample on some rights by saying that, but I sincerely believe in the greater good here. For those young people who are mature enough to decice, they will just have to wait regardless. It's a compromise, and the best solution to a very difficult problem IMHO.

I think we all agree here that porn is great so why should girls regret doing it?

If we say young girls should think twice about doing porn then we are saying porn perhaps is not such a good thing, if so then why are we watching it in the first place? It doesn't make sense.

I disagree. It still makes perfect sense to me. Porn can be a great thing, but it can also be bad. It can be a burden for a woman who regrets something she did on tape as a teenager. This is not a black/white issue, there are gray areas, and things are complicated.

As I've said repeatedly, I've lived to regret most of the shit that I've ever done. And I'm not female nor have I ever done porn.

It doesn't matter how hard you try and protect people. They will do what they will anyway. If you make them wait an extra five years, they'll either sneak and do it in the shadows or they'll wait the five years and do exactly what they would've done five years ago.....only more vigorously. Check college students. They're usually around 20 when they really get a chance to go nuts and that's exactly what they do. We make people wait until 21 to drink. Does it help? No. They party just as hard (or maybe harder) as they would have at 18....making up for lost time. Stop by any college party and tell me it makes one bit of difference what the legal drinking age is.

The key is education and education doesn't come without experience. Most people my age don't drink and drive, for example. Why do you think that is? Well, some people never will drink and drive but a lot of people learn the hard way. They try it and either get hammered by the law or they crash AND get hammered by the law. Sometimes this repeats until they learn their lesson and sometimes they learn first time. But very few people learn anything just from being warned by someone else. It won't matter how young or old they are. Mistakes are life's greatest teachers.

According to these arguments, there should be NO age limit on porn, 18, 16, 5, whatever.

I am guessing you agree that 5 is too young to do porn. So where do you draw the line, 18? Why, just because the law says so? What if it was up to you? Where would you set the limit?

Does anyone here in this thread besides me think that the military exploits youth and poverty almost exclusively....

... I would never want any of my kids to waste their time and life doing that....although it may have some benefits it's fuggin "last resort" kinda thinking... going into the military.

I don't think it makes a good argument for also letting the unregulated adult film industry exploit the young and impoverished.

Believe it or not most people don't watch porn, and don't think it a good thing.
Sasha won't admit it, but she'd laugh in the face of a guy who admitted to her that he liked to watch porn - as would any woman.
Mention it in a conversation with "normal" people sometime and watch the reaction.

I think it's quite amusing that certain folks always fall back on this tired old argument. You had a perfectly reasonable argument until you took it to extremes.
OK.....that's a 13 year gap. How do you go from an 18 year old to a 5 year old?
No. Because it's ridiculous to have the legal age of consent jumping all over the map every few years.

I feel that 18 is old enough because I believe I was old enough and mature enough at 18 to make such decisions. If a person isn't, they likely never will be.

It isn't up to me and I think it's pretty stupid to go meddling with a set standard. We have too many stupid laws in the first place and some goofball will likely come along and decide to change it sooner or later anyway. For the time being, I intend to simply enjoy it as it is.

What the fuck does this have to do with anything? Of course a lot of women aren't crazy about men watching porn. Because it means that they don't have as much control over them as they would if they were horny and hard up all the time.

I don't know what Sasha thinks. If she finds porn fans amusing, oh well. Everybody needs a laugh sometimes. Whatever.

Maybe you should let Sasha speak for herself and stop trying to impose your belief onto her.

Did you ever consider that Sasha might like to watch porn, too? Yes, some women actually like porn. Not all porn, necessarily, but then, I don't like all porn, either.

Btw, did anyone read the story today how Hungary want to change the porn age to 14-17 but only if it's for private use. Strange law.

I’ll obey the law, what ever the legal age is.

The reason the legal age for stripping or doing porn won’t change. It’s their constituently protected right as an adult. I think the only way it could done is to raise age for everything back to 21. Any bill attempting to raise the age limit will have the age for military service also attached to it to.

And won’t pass.

The legal drinking age was lowered to 18 along with giving 18 yr olds legal status as adults.

It didn’t last that long, before only drinking was reinstated to 21.

All of this happened during the Vietnam war. Congress faced with rising the age for military service to 21 or giving 18 yr olds legal right as adults chose to lower the age to 18.

It is against the constitution to deny them drinking privileges. But is allowed to stand "for the greater good of the people".

The reason it was raised back 21, some 18 yr olds are still in High School. And have friends that were 16 and 17. They were supplying high school parties with legally purchased booze.

Just like what happens on college campuses now.

Stripping or doing porn does not come near the standard of "greater good of the people".

I don’t think even this conservative Supreme Court would allow congress to deny anymore rights to other wise legal adults

If a attorney has a different idea please post it

Here it is in English

[link removed: No tube sites]

If these law and order types aren’t careful they will end up with the legal age of consent down to 13 or 14. Where it was for centuries.

How is it a 13 yr old is mentally competent to stand trial as an adult, BUT NOT mentally competent to give their consent to have sex.

Right now the minimum age is 18 for the death penalty. There are attempts to lower that.

The battle cry “They are old enough to know what they’re doing when they commit the crime” if this is true then I say they’re old enough to consent to having sex.

Do I want to see 13 to 17 yr olds having sex and in porn NO I would rather see them tried as the minors they are.

Believe it or not most "normal" people have watched porn. I saw a survey a few months ago that clearly showed that. I won’t quote any numbers, because I can’t find it now. Men watching porn alone was very high, couples were high, and single women watching porn alone was up to respectable numbers.

Mention it in a conversation with "normal" people of course they will think you’re an idiot. Nearly all adults have sex, but talking about they’re sex life is not something people do.

But as porn comes farther out into the light. It will bring sex father out into the light.

The porn industry is not just for perverts wearing trench coats any more. Men and women are now watching porn all over the world.

As for women they have been forced to lie for so long about sex. The good girls don’t do this or good girls they don’t do that.

One funny story when my wife and I started having sex she was very up tight about it. I tried to get her to masturbate herself for me. She said she had never done it before. After some coaxing she tried it. Well she got into it. It looked to me like she was a pro at it. After some teasing and coaxing over a few years she finally admitted she’s been rubbing her clit for a long time.

More than 50% of the people I know watch porn. About 75% of my friends are female, and I would say that 75% of them watch porn. The age range of my friends are between 21 and 35.

A few weeks ago I brought a girl home, and she noticed a copy of "Island Fever 3" sitting on the bottom of my coffee table. A female friend of mine bought it for me for my birthday. I forgot it was sitting there. So this girl I brought home, just opened it, and put it in my DVD player without even thinking about it. Kind of defeats that theory.

Or maybe it's because they see her as a threat for crossover success. Something sure has them up in arms....and I'm not buying that"she's just so young" stuff. Plenty of 18 year olds have come and gone over the years and I don't recall this kind of nonsense before. So what's different?

Not to nitpick, but I'm fairly certan this topic has come up before. I know I've discussed it on this forum at least once and possibly more than that. It might not have had its own thread though, so maybe that's the difference.

I think it's kind of an interesting topic. Change is unlikely though, so it's pretty much academic, regardless of how you feel about it.

Well, the anti-porn opinion comes up about every 3 hours on a porn newsgroup or message board so you're right about that. That's nothing new. However, certain individuals have really had a hard on (in a bad way) specifically for Sasha for some reason.

Really, considering how many parents and authority figures mess kids up way before they are 18, by doing things like forcing them to be pageant queens, gymnasts, tennis players, obsessive pianists, athletes, military school/junior rotc kids, and on and on... no one seems to force their kids to live their whole lives waiting to grow up and become porn actors and actresses. it's a choice made by adults. Now, if some regret it, that's just how it is. I too regret dumb choices, then you move on.
The fact that this conversation continually arises just comes from the fact that our society is so neurotic and fearful of sex and desire.
Having sex for others for money is seen as morally regrettable, killing for others for money is seen as morally good. Still makes no sense to me.

I only want to add to this thread,
that we had a minimum age of 15 in Denmark and
16 in NL, only a few years ago.

Both countries had good experiences with it,
but Uncle Sam disliked this and now both countries have
adapted the 18 age minimum.

Maybe someone can explain the US law to me :
In some states in the USA, you are only an legal adult
with 21, or ?
Can a 18-20 year old woman, who is minor in her state, travel to an other state, where you are an adult with 18,
and play in Porn ?

Thanks !

caroline in the US 18 yr olds are full adults with all rights and privileges, with the exception of purchasing and consuming alcohol. And it applies to all fifty state and territories.

That is why I think the age limit will never be raised to 21 for porn.

I posted this earlier in this thread.

I personal think the age limit for consensual sex should be 13 yr old. Even though people mature at different rates. That seems to be the age when you develop interest in sex.

My first sexual experience was at 14 and my girlfriend was 13. I have heard women being interviewed that had sex early with and inexperienced partner. Saying their first sexual experience was terrible. I’m sure my girlfriend would say the same thing.

But if she was 13 and I was an adult, her first sexual experience would have been a very pleasant experience for her.

And if at 14 my first sexual experience had been with a adult women I would not have fumbled around all those years trying to learn how to make a women sex pleasurable for her.

We need to lower the age of consent back to 13 where it was for centuries.

I have long thought we have been fucked up in our thinking about sex, at least with boys.

Message that is sent is good boys don’t get pussy. Bad boys get pussy. Is there any doubt why we have more bad boys than good boys? Hell even good boys don’t want to be called good boys. It’s like branding no pussy on his forehead.

Now if in our society the older mature ladies were allowed and even expected to mentor our boys. Talk to them about their grades and doing their homework, doing what right and rewarding good boys with some pussy.

And our good girls are attracted to bad boy’s why bad boys get pussy. Our good girls have pussy.

The boys want to have sex, the girls want to have sex. Society burdens girl with inhibition so heavily that boys have to ply our young ladies with alcohol and drugs to have sex. Our young ladies accept alcohol and drugs to have sex. So they can blame alcohol and drugs for having sex.

You think I’m crazy it was that way until after WW 2. After WW 2 there were so many single women in their 20’s without a husband that society demanded men marry a girl closer to his age.

When adapted the age of consent was 12 to 14 in all fifty state and only recently raised to 18. but some states were only raised to 16 or 17.

Prosecuting adults for having sex with teenagers is what’s new. Not adults having sex with teenagers

Why does the first experience have to be very pleasant? As long as it is between two persons who trust each other, they should give it some time to explore their feelings and techniques. You don't have to debute with a "pro".

I would much rather that teenagers find this out by themselves with someone approximately as mature as themselves. Because the alternative is opening up for adults hunting young teenagers that are not at all on the same maturity level. That will definetly lead to a lot of cases of exploitation, and probably do a lot more harm than good.

As long as it is between two persons who trust each other” do think she trusted me or we trusted each other. Or was it a case of us not knowing any better. We’re just lucky she didn’t get pregnant.

“I would much rather that teenagers find this out by themselves with someone approximately as mature as themselves” this same girl did end up getting pregnant twice and turned 18 with 2 kids. This happens to 100’s of thousands of young women. Evidenced by teen pregnancies and abortions.

Do we throw 2 teenagers the keys to the car and let them teach other how to drive. The consequences of irresponsible sex are equally as devastating as a car wreck

If society legalized and condoned consensual sex between teenagers and responsible adults then these premature pregnancies would be greatly reduced.

We give our sexually aroused 16 yr old boy’s a driver license, a car, $20 and a street full of crack whore’s and wonder why STD’s are running ramped.

I think a responsible adult female would be preferable too street whores and teenage girls that end up pregnant

Not really what R. Kelly did was against the law. (5 yrs later I don’t think he’s went to court yet)

What I posted was a discussion about changing the law and societies attitude about consensual sex with teenagers.

I was wondering if people would take societies “company line” or would they discuss ending this experiment and go back to the way is was for thousands of years.

I obey the law. And I never ever would come close to breaking this law.

I think this is the core of where I object. In a perfect world, where everybody were mentally and emotionally in perfect balance, sure. In such a world, everything could be legal.

But from what you know about people out there, do you think "consensual sex between teenagers and responsible adults" is anything but an illusion? Wouldn't we see loads of middle aged perverts (of both genders) using the advantage of their maturity to trick young, immature teenagers into having sex with them? That sounds to me like a very probably outcome, as it is a problem today but mitigated by our laws.

In today’s world only a very few people grow old and gray with their first and only sex partner. Even then you can’t be sure if they’re telling the truth or counting on not being called out on it.

Most teens today have sex with multiple partners before they’re 18. People have sex and move on. Everyone is crushed by the lose of their first love. We all get over it quickly

I think the mental and emotional trauma of having an abortion or being a teen mother is much worse.

People take advantage of each other to have sex. I think that’s what sex is. Teenagers are notorious about using their position in the school society to have sex. It some cases it’s black mail.

I just don’t think teenagers are that mentally and emotionally delicate.
The key is societies accepting it as nominal as well as legal. All mental and emotional traumas come’s from society and society acceptance or rejection.

EDIT
This would require society to acknowledge there is a difference between sex and love. The myth that sex and love is inseparable dominates any discussion about sex.
Men have always been allowed to separate sex and love, but women were never allowed too.
I think the majority of women are now acknowledging they too can separate sex and love.
