So I finally decided to go on with building an HTPC.
I kinda did some math and figured out that for $170.00 + my parts I can build a decent media computer.
I just placed an order on New Egg for a X-Qpack cube case that comes with a free PSU. The price for this was $74.99 with no tax, with free delivery and $15.00 rebate.
I also ordered there a SAPPHIRE Radeon Theatrix 650 PRO TV Tuner for $52.99 flat.
I am also eyeing a small motherboard that shouldnt cost me more than $40.00.
From my parts I have the following:
-Pentium 4 3.0Ghz CPU
-Quality Zalman Fan with Heatsink
-120GB Sata Hard Drive
-1GB Corsair DDR Ram Memory
-Samsung DVD Burner
-and bunch of cords and cables and fans
I think that this will be a decent media PC and a backup PC. I will upgrade my cuirrent PC this year anyway and if I can build the HTPC then I can put my parts to good use because I wouldnt get much for them on eBay.

In that case, I guess a gig of RAM is fine. I was going to say if you were planning on running Vista, 2 gigs would be a minimum. XP seems to run fine on lower levels of RAM. Although it still couldn't hurt to add another gig. I got 2 gigs of RAM for my system a couple of weeks ago for less than $60.
Are you going to be saving video to an external drive?

I will see how it will work and if I wont like the performance then I will upgrade to 2 gigs.
I will be saving on internal and on external drives.
