| BigBobxxx Senior Member 2681 Posts 5/04 | Stopping in New Orleans, on my way back to Florida during my five-week driving tour of the Country, I had the misfortune of visiting the Hustler Club on Bourbon Street. $15.00 cover charge (unless you wanted to pay more to visit the entire facility). $8.25 for fucking bottle of beer. $35.00 for a single-song lap dance (I passed). Five -- count 'em, five -- average-looking girls "dancing," one-at-a-time, on, maybe, a 15' x 15' stage(not "Hustler-quality attractive" by any means). Numerous "CIA-style" security guys with ear-pieces hovering over every aspect of the club (more security than girls). Non-stop stupid DJ blathering (which I finally figured out was mostly promoting "an hour in a private room with the girl of your choice for $200" -- one assumes that the "dancer's" fees are above and beyond the room). In any event, not interested... again. I would have thought the Hustler name stood for more than rip-off ![]() Now, before I'm accused of being a tight-wad complainer, I spent $82 for dinner (including tax, tip and four $5/12-oz. draft beers) at the Red Fish Grill (also on Bourbon Street, 100 block), and was thoroughly satisfied! Why? Because, when paying top-dollar for a premium food experience, the Red Fish Grill delivered everything you were paying for! P.S. Now that I've walked Bourbon Street, I cannot adequately convey to you what a complete rip-off waste-of-time it truly is. I make a point of spending money in New Orleans everytime I drive by. I will be back. But, from now on, it will be for a great meal only, then right back on I-10 [Link] |

| BigBobxxx Senior Member 2681 Posts 5/04 | I actually dropped a bit over $300, in about 24 hours, this stop (hotel, meals and strip-club). Also spent about $50 five weeks earlier, on the outbound trip, just to park and eat. I think I'll pass on New Orleans strip-clubs, as they all seem to look like opium dens and/or fronts for prostitution/drugs. I'm open to suggestions if people can recommend known good places they have personally visited. Honestly though, I'm actually afraid to enter most of the strip-clubs I looked at. P.S. I figured why the "Lucky Dog" hotdog carts got their name... because you're lucky if you don't get sick after eating one! But, what a deal! Only cost me $7.75 for a Lucky Dog and a Coke (both served room temperature) |

Save some money next time you are there and eat at the Acme Oyster House which is a dive on a sides treet off Bourbon and has the best crawfish & other fresh seafood I've ever had in N'awlins. It was recommended to me by locals and the wait for a table was worth it. |

I actually walked out of the restroom without using it, being very careful not to touch anything (and walked 1-1/2 blocks back to my hotel to go instead). I can't reconcile the beautiful, clean, well-presented food I had with the restroom I encountered. I still want to eat at Galatoire's once. The hotel staff told me it really is a great restaurant (and they told me not to bother with Brennan's, as it is a tourist rip-off). I would have eaten at Galatoire's this time, except they require jacket and tie. The Acme Oyster House looks promising. |

My friend and I spent the same amount as we did at the overpriced and mediocre Mother's (about $40 + tip), and just about died it was so freaking tasty and amazing. No 45-minute wait. No crowded tables full of expense-account chumps. Just ... yum. Had a fun night at the Hi-Ho Club on St. Claude. Also, the legendary Saturn Bar. |

A buddy of mine wanted to steal one of the carts and make a bed out of it, which I thought was an excellent idea (and still do). Edit: I do however agree with your comments on the vendors, if you get in trouble with one try to distract him with crack and make a run for it. 1. Why go to a titty bar when it’s free in the streets.... 2. The Quarter is an internationally known tourist destination, and just like every other tourist destination I ever been to prices on everything are jacked up. I don't like this any more than anyone else, but it certainly is not only and issue in the crescent city. I mean have you ever eaten in Manhattan.....at least the overpriced food in NOLA is good (really good)....Just be glad you were not there during a big event where ppl want to change you $20 to use their bathroom. redfish is pretty good, glad you liked it, and I also was underwhelmed with mothers NOLA is kinda weird the normal stuff you might find fun like casinos titty bars ect. don't seem to work because it already had its own thing going on... If I'm hanging out in titty bars here in the quarter I generally go to the Penthouse Club. The girls are usually hotter and a lot more freindly. Another more local strip club on Bourbon is Temptations. They can be hit or miss with the girls but I have had some really good times in there. If you have a friend who lives here with a car get him to take you to Visions out in New Orleans east. The quality of girl never ceases to amaze me and a lot less money goes a much longer way there. Best, Max. |
