I just viewed the new release All American Cream Pie from New Sensations and was extremely disappointed to see that they are now putting a watermark in the right corner of the video. Not huge, not small, but big enough to be a distraction. I think this is crap. I understand that piracy is a big issue, not just in the adult industry but also in Hollywood and the music industry. This is not the answer.
Could you imagine buying a mainstream DVD only to find a watermark from Paramount, Warner Bros. or 20th Century Fox. I like the productions from New Sensations/Digital Sin but if this continues they will have lost a customer. Anyone else have a problem with this?

I'm seriously OCD with shit like this... it drives me crazy. I understand that piracy is a huge issue, but I gotta agree that there must be a better solution.

personally, im not too crazy about watermarking vids...but i do understand that it is something that needs to be done.
the purpose of watermarking is to label the content as "exclusive" to whoever produced it. i can understand how NS would watermark their dvd content since it has become fairly easy to rip dvd's...
think of it this way...what if you produced a video, put all the money, time and effort into making it...and then finding your video on 3 or 4 other sites right after making it available. anyone out there can claim the video as theirs and benefit from it...
this way, if i find our content on peer-to-peer software or torrent sites, the video is still promoting brazzers in a way, because of the watermark ... and no one can really take it and claim it as their own
so, although watermarking does suck...you can see why it's necessary

Thank you Bramm.
And I guess the reason Brazzers put a HUGE watermark (its more of a stamp, really) on their vids is to make it difficult for somebody to paste their own over the original?

if someone does that (for any content), they usually get caught...and that's when the lawyers come in...
is our watermark really that big? i guess i stopped noticing after all this time...

Nah, but seriously, Brazzers is high on my list of quality pornographers, along with ZTOD and 3rd Degree.
The big name studios produce this arty-farty glamour porn with nice scenery - who gives a fuck? (The male talent does, huh huh) and everyone else is just a guy with a camera.
Keep it up!

Bramm,
Thanks for responding to me in that other thread. I appreciate your honesty, even though your response was not what I was hoping to read. Since this thread is about watermarks and the other one isn't (I was derailing it), I will respond to you here. You asked:
"is the small "brazzers.com" watermark on the bottom right corner really a big deal?"
To be honest with you, I wish it wasn't, but it is. Even small or faint watermarks bother me. If I notice it once, I will continue to notice it throughout the scene. It may sound a bit strange, but it is true. I have browsed your pages of updates and your site looks very attractive to me, but I can't enjoy porn that has watermarks. I have tried.
rlankford,
Thanks for the heads up about the watermark! If I bought a New Sensations DVD that I had not watched beforehand (which I will sometimes do) and saw a watermark, I would be very disappointed. I own 50-100 New Sensations / Digital Sin DVDs, but I will not buy or rent watermarked DVDs. My posts to this board may be redundant, but I want to offer my feedback to producers when I have the opportunity.
As well as communicating with producers, forum members can communicate with each other as you have here. Some reviewers here at ADT will mention if DVDs are watermarked. I thank them. Den's site (cavr.com) is another good source of information. A year or two ago, he started indicating if the DVD being reviewed was watermarked.
If the financial gain companies get from watermarking DVDs exceeds the loss in sales, we will have a hard time convincing them to not watermark their product. The best we as consumers can do is inform the producers that we will not purchase their watermarked products.
Thanks again, rlankford.

Just viewed the new Digital Sin release She Likes It Big #2 and wanted to post a confirmation that they too are using a watermark. It is even bigger and more distracting than the New Sensations one.
What is strange is that for $25 you can go to their website and download their entire library of videos, at very high quality, without the watermarks. If they were looking to fight piracy why would this be?

New Sensations/Digital Sin release many/most of my favorite adult DVD's and are by far my favorite company of the new millenium.I'm not big on watermarks,I'm quite opposed to them actually, but I don't see myself boycotting their product.I'm too addicted to high-quality porn and many of the girls in their films to do that...

man, I wish I had perused this site before buying some Digital Sin and New Sensation DVDs. I was pissed when I saw the watermarks. I'll NEVER buy from these companies again. I wonder if these companies even care. Obviously the customer base doesn't mean anything to them.

I'm young enough that watermarks have been used on TV for as long as I can clearly remember, so I guess I'm just used to them. They don't bother me in adult movies...
Of course, the first porn videos I watched were scrambled cable broadcasts (where the image is all purple/green and distorted, before digital encryption), so I learned early on how to tune out distractions!
