I finally did what I should have done about two years ago. I purchased a laptop with an internet card so I can use it at work as well. I will still post a lot with my smartphone because I have to be careful with having porn images at work.
But I am really behind times on PCs and especially the internet. When I am to busy at work to use my laptop, I let my work mates use it, to check thier own personal email browse etc....
I am glad to do that but I am concerned, I dont want just anyone to accidently trace my net history. The last PC I purchsed new was a windows98 and the screen or tool bar is different on this system even for the internet . As I recalled I could simply delete my cookies then but I am not as confident with this Vista program. Is there any simple way to stay safe other than forbiding others to use it, which is something I would hate to do.

I have a related question. I'm not hijacking the thread because this question would help Greg's original question as well.
I run Firefox 3 and when I shut down, I always get that pop-up that asks if I want to clear all my privacy data. I say YES. Yet I notice my address bar history never gets cleared.
I also run CCleaner every week and that doesn't touch it, either. I know because there's a website I haven't visited in months, but it's still there in my address bar every time I look.
How do you clear the address bar history in Firefox 3?

This should help.
But since FF3 has a 'smart' location bar, it will, I believe, also show bookmarks when you type something. There is a way to fix that. In other words, make it behave like FF2 location bar which only remembers and shows stuff that you've actually typed.

In Firefox:
"Tools", "Options", "Privacy Tab"...uncheck all three boxes in the "history" panel.
Edit: My post was directed to Jayo, and Zoid slipped his under the wire.
Also, Greg, you can set up two user profiles- "Greg" or whatever the default profile is, and "Others". Whenever you are going to loan out your laptop just switch user accounts to "Others" and password protect the "Greg" account. In Vista it only takes a few seconds to make that change. The different accounts load with separate browser histories/recent documents/etc.
