I wonder how many 18 yr old porn stars are existentialists? I would love to know if that element seemed to be in contradiction. Does it turn people on or does no one really give a fuck about that when they are investing in pornography, does the idea of a multi-dimensional young woman fuck with the sex object fantasy? The biggest and best sex organ is of course the brain.
Well, I feel that alot of the successful pornstars are existentialists. They determine their own destiny by choosing their career and in so; excel at it to become superstars in porno. There are some who had become very success but did not know how to get out and stay out of the business; Janine Luldenmuller comes to mind.

I must say that I do not recall ever seeing a girl quoting Simone de Beauvoir immediately before a blow-bang or an anal creampie scene, but then again I may not have been paying attention (I like to fastforward to the good bits).
If a girl talks about existentialism whilst naked I may pay close attention and take notes, but I don't think I would rush out and buy a video just because it features an all-existentialist cast. Unless, of course, it has a uniform theme to it - thick glasses, hair in a bun, thick woollen socks and plaid skirts in a library setting (yowser!!).
If he were still alive, I believe Jean Paul Sartre would consider many of today's pornstars existentialists. One of his best books is "Saint Genet" which explored the rebel life of thief, homosexual and playwright ("The Blacks" & "The Balcony") Jean Genet.
The short version of what Sartre says about Genet is that society branded Genet as "bad" because of his sexual preference and occupation (thief)--and consequently Genet "chose" to become the outsider, the societal rebel. And, Sartre would see similarities between Genet's choice and the choices made by pornstars.
Oh, by the way: many retired pornstars "return to the fold" and embrace conventional society values. So, I don't know if existentialism "takes"--and is a lifetime commitment--or if it is a "youthful phase". Just like our parents say it is.

i think that once you become a porn star you stop relalizing you are meaningless, i mean, with all the supposed "nescessity" of your existance; refuge comes whence we remember when we seek the time before we "meant" something to "eveyone" "all the time"... like richard gere with tibetin buddhism, but not.... you're as sexy as they cum for asking the q, my sasha, my little bird, my nothing, nothing being mine, me being nothing, there being nothing, - _ -
Some say 'Make love, not war'.....I say you can do both, if you budget your time 578 Posts 9/04

I suppose existentialism could be a factor in porn. Porn stars enact fantasies of their fans, and the fans live vicariously through them, at least for the duration of the scene.
Fans of porn see the porn world as a world of unbridled hedonism, with no adverse consequences. It's virtual utopia of carnal desire and experience.
With that in mind, Sasha, do you consider yourself a libertine?

I think that when a female takes a stance against mainstream values or ideals - that in itself is sexy. Whether it be with what they believe or how they look at life. If, on the other hand, you have a girl who is beautiful or there's a girl that you've got your eyes on or whatever and she holds some anti-norm belief, like existentialism (or is even aware of what existentialism is) or some other obscure way of thinking, then that makes her exponentially sexier. That's how it is to me anyways. When you find a girl that's into existentialism or philosophy and is aware of it all and more interested in academics or other thought-productive activities than going to the mall to hang out or something, that's when you know you've got a keeper. Beauty is great, yes, but so are brains. When you put the two together however, there's like a synergistic effect that makes it way cooler than having beauty OR brains alone. Hopefully that made sense.
And Sasha, I've been made aware of your career within the last week and have become a huge fan and have a wishlist of your movies that I plan to eventually get. Knowing that you posted something on here about existentialism makes me an even bigger one. Hell, you're on my top 12 on myspace....right before GG Allin. But, seeing that we're not all 13 years old, the whole myspace thing seems like less of a compliment than what I wanted it to be. To sum the whole last paragraph up - I'm a fan and I think you're really badass.
The rent is due in the afternoon, your deal is waiting outside for you...you've got two cocks in the ass, two in the mouth, a cameraman digitally capturing an image that will be reproduced in perpetuam , a microphone boom capturing the sounds and bright lights...something so absurd could be nothing but existential.
Another question might be, "I wonder how many 18-year-old pornstars know what existentialism is?"

P.s. One of the absolute worst flicks i ever made, and I've made plenty of them, was a satire inspired by Sartre titled, creatively enough, "No Exit." God damn it sucked. Here's the first line from The Village Voice's review: "James DiGiorgio's No Exit (VCA)—a "light and loose interpretation of the existentialist masterpiece" by Jean-Paul Sartre—digs itself into a hole from which, indeed, it cannot escape."
Yeah, no one seems to have gotten existentialism in this thread--that existance precedes essense, God is dead and life is absurd, and so only our actions can determine the meaning of our existance. You are what you do, not what you say you do.
I'm thinking she may have meant Ayn Rand-style objectivism as well, which is cool. At any rate I think Sasha has a lot upstairs and is very multi-dimensional, which should definitely help in dealing with the vagaries of the porn industry. And staying away from bottom-feeders like Max Hardcore.
As far as watching porn goes, a nice big ass, a slender waist and a pretty face is what gets the main sail at full mast. I don't care what Katja Kassin is thinking about when I watch her scenes; watching her ass get pounded is a real primal experience for me. It's always a kick though to read Katja or Sasha, Dana Dearmond, Gia Jordan, Leah Luv and Sinnamon's stuff here. It's good to know that there are woman in the industry who have their shit together...

I doubt there are many who would take the time to even briefly study the subject. Are you stating you are one of these young women?
There are no philosophical thoughts in my head when I have sex... Never, not on camera and not at home. Porn is my job, it's fun and it pays well so that's why I'm doing it. I just try to have a good time with it. Not because I want to change the world, there are probably better ways. I think sex is just sex and it's not even that much of a big deal. If I wanted to have my existentialist ideas heard I should be writing a book or have my ass in college or so but porn is not the right place for something like that.

I like existentialism, but when i see beautiful gapes,i think more about some very beautiful metaphors such as the the heaven's doors or the stage door, then ...my dick looks like the Tower of Pisa !
If you are wondering what is going thru the girls head while she is getting anally reamed, I certainly hope you are only renting... I dont try to be intellectual when Im getting choked or degraded. I think about hardcore nasty sex. Something I would never do at home. Its like unleashing the beast.
There are some highly intelligent girls in this industry..but porn is overly populated with stupidity. And showing your intellect here is pointless. Im not getting paid to be smart. Im getting paid to be nasty. And I dont think it would sound hot if any girl continuously spoke like this "oh yes please defile my anal rectum!"
See...it just doesnt have the same ring as " fuck my tight asshole you sick fuck!"
Yes thats much better. My point....who gives a shit. Your not watching porn to find and intelligent Christian girl. Your trying to blow a fucking load for Christ's sake. Just do it and stop thinking so much.
I prefer to feel that the object of my fantasy is smart. Existentialism is certainly not the point - most people who say they're existentialists don't have a very deep understanding of the subject. But I don't get off on seeing a vacuous bimbo being thrown through a sex scene like a blow-up doll. I get off on seeing a real, preferably intelligent, woman getting a kick out of what she's doing and what is being done to her. If she's incapable of contextualising that, no dice. The dumber they seem, the more it fucks with the fantasy.
Just something a fan sent me I thought it was interesting and wanted to share with you guys i didn't edit it i left it as is , and I'm happy to stir up discussions like this ...always more to come...
"tomorrow will it really come"
hi sasha.
i haven't had a chance to see a lot of your work but i was kind of blown away with what i've seen and read... your pictures and performance, as well as what you have to say about what you do and why you do it (your politics, i guess).
it's really important for someone like me -- intellectually open-minded but uncomfortable with my body and with my sexuality -- to have a healthy relationship with pornography, and by extension, the women who make it possible.
porn might offers an easy outlet for sexual release for some people, but i often wrestle with it... if something gets me off, i really have to work to understand and accept what it is (like the concept of a "slut" for example).
porn is psychological for me, as much as it is about surface, so i appreciate the fact that you are frank, intelligent, and articulate, as well as foxy.
there is an inherent danger in there being nothing intelligent or philosophical in pornography, or any media for that matter. that would be that the experience of watching porn is solely in your mind, and when it engages your mind, or you engage it, you enter the hyperreality that people like baudrillard talk about.
if your stimuli is devoid of intelligence and your mind is devoid of intelligence--or worse, the material is deintellectualised--then how do you evolve? if porn reflects our sexuality as a species, what is our attitude towards that? is unquestioned misogyny without the framework of compassion and consent something we are all willing to tolerate?
great post. i totally agree with that. porn needs to stop catering to the lowest common denominator. academics watch porn too, as evidenced by this board.
thanks. i think we're on the same wavelength, which is great. it's really affirming to know that there's someone on the other side of things--in the industry--that shares my beliefs.
porn has the potential to be a great artform, but i'd say 99% of the people who make it don't see it that way.
