Get a copy of the magazine in which you wish to publish. Send away for their submission guidelines. Write a story that adheres to those guidelines and that seems to fit the general "type" of the other stories featured in the publication. Send it in. Be happy if you get contributor's copies as payment. Send it somewhere else if you get a rejection slip.
