I'm in Ontario as well. Over the last year I've ordered from quite a few US stores, including AdultDVDEmpire, AdultDVD.com, AdultDVD4Sale.com and Xrentdvd.com (strangely, not CD Universe....yet). I've also ordered from a few European stores. Every shipment has arrived safe and sound and nothing has been seized by customs - mind you, I haven't ordered anything super-extreme either. No watersports, torture, etc. - so not sure if those would get seized. Apparently there is a list of DVDs banned in Canada out there somewhere but not sure how up to date it is or how strict they are when it comes to enforcing.

As far as duties, I would say out of 20+ orders I've received, 3 have been charged a duty fee, which is annoying, but no big deal. I think if you order US$50 or less worth of merchandise the order is exempt from duties; anything higher and you might get dinged. But really, it's a crap shoot. I've ordered stuff over $100 and not had to pay, so you really won't know until it arrives. But even if you don't get charged duty, there's a good chance customs will open the order to inspect (this doesn't bother me but not sure how you feel about it), but I've never found anything missing or damaged.

Oh, and keep in mind when ordering outside of Canada, some stores don't ship DVDs in cases, just the sleeve and the artwork. Again, this isn't a big deal to me but if you care about such things pay attention when you order - there should be a mention of this at the checkout).

I'll be ordering DVDs from the studios Evil Angel, Jules Jordan, Brazzers, and Digital Playground.

Can you get in legal trouble from ordering this stuff into Canada? Or at worst, would customs just take it and I wouldn't receive it?

There's a store in town where I live that sells all these studios, and I'm pretty sure they order from the US. They're too expensive though.

You have to change the filter to include adult content to search for them on ebay.com.

Only once out of many orders was I asked to pay a Customs/Duty fee. This was from adultdvdempire, and there was a bit of confusion during the ordering process. Subsequent orders from them did not require this extra payment.

A few times the shipments were stopped for an inspection at the border, as indicated by a yellow labeled tape on the opened side of the package. This is maybe 1 in 20 shipments.

In one isolated case, one shipment of DVDs was partially stopped and a notification sent to me that one particular title was being investigated. The title was Sex Ed #4 from Innocent High. It was a mainstream title. It was later shipped to me without further charge about 3 months later.

I would generally say that if you requested 100 shipments from well-known sites, about 5-7 of the shipments would be delayed for inspection. It is also possible that the customs people may be keeping closer tabs on persons known to order a fair amount of internationally shipped porn.

I am more concerned about whether a site actually offers shipment to Canada.

So far, I have eventually received every DVD I have ordered, unless unexpectedly out of stock or if a misidentified DVD was chosen for shipment.

As pointed out by ADT member AcidRain in this topic, it is true that you may not get your DVD in a case. You should check this first, if it is important to you. Usually they tell you about this, but not always. Myself, I am happy if they ship the DVD in a sleeve and include the artwork.
