Specifically, knowing zero about MACs 1) Would I be able to transfer/use my EXCEL/WORD, other PC-based files into my MAC? 2) How limited in software would I be? I know, e.g., TurboTax comes in a MAC version, but do other programs? Thanks in advance. [Link] |

You can purchase MS Office for MAC but I would wait for the 2008 version which will be released in January or February. Or you can run Windows in virtual mode using Parallels or Fusion. Or you can convert to Pages and Numbers (MAC software equivalents) and both of those programs can save and read Word and Excel files, respectively. 2) How limited in software would I be? I know, e.g., TurboTax comes in a MAC version, but do other programs? --- The biggest limitation I've found with MAC is Quicken. Quicken for MAC sucks balls compared to the Windows version. Again, if you have Fusion or Parallels, you can load Windows XP OS and run Quicken for Windows. Another minor limitation is that there are no MAC versions of DVD Shrink and Imgburn. But we won't get into that for danger of getting banned. |

If you are expecting to run everything you have on your PC, you'll most certainly be disappointed. If you are expecting Mac software to work like PC software, expect similar disappointments. But if you are looking to get the job done, I think there are very, very few categories where you will be lacking on a Mac. The community is big and most of the software is extremely solid. Dr. P |
