First off..is the first time the word marraige has been used on this site (Marriage? What does a site devoted to sex have to do with marriage)

Have you ever fantasized about meeting a chick (or non chick) and marrying her without the whole dating process? Just jump in the pool and see where it leads.

I think I have had dreams about it and there is a certain odd appeal about it.

I kind of have the opposite fantasy - meeting someone, falling in love, and just being with them for the next 40 years without going through the whole marriage ceremony. Since I don't plan to procreate it just seems more practical anyway, if it ever fizzles we could just part ways with little fanfare.

In certain cultures not only were marriages arranged, but the couple didn't get to see each other beforehand. Not sure it worked any worse than marriages based on 'romance,' but I doubt the participants found it too appealing.

Hardware,

Not were arranged, but still are arranged. Participants simply have no choice, so not finding it appealing doesn't enter the picture.

DD, I used the past tense because I'm not sure the couple are still prevented from seeing each other beforehand, not because I thought arranged marriages were a thing of the past.

- Fair enough. Guess I'm in a picky mood today.

Sorry.

btw, in some areas they are still prevented from seeing each other beforehand.

Marriages are still arranged in many cultures.

To those whose cultural basis is freewill in such matters, arranged marriages are inconceivable. Conversely, freewill in marriage choices makes no sense to those whose culture is based on arranged marriages.

I suspect that there are plusses and minuses in both environments, however, based on the fact that both systems continue unabated, each must have something going for it. I don't see that it really makes a lot of difference except when the two systems interact.

For me, the fantasy has nothing to do with prearranged marraiges. It is more of a Dharma and Greg type of thing.

Endo, are you high? dude, it may seem like a good idea at the time, but please wait until you sober up at least.

although im pretty sure the one-armed guy was not legally empowered to perform the ceremony, lets just say that when i came to my senses that i saw things in a whole different light.

Blondie, well I guess I can scratch you off my list of potential candidates for instant marraige. Next up..Stacy Kiebler..Will you marry me?

What can I say Blondie? I suck at the whole dating thing.
