You mention NTSC which also begs the question of whether your player and TV are native NTSC or PAL. If it's PAL, I'm totally out of my depth here.

I had thought that interlace problems were dealt with during the conversion to DVD process...and certainly that my TV or dvd player would automatically counter it's effects. As it stands, it pretty much unwatchable on my TV. Only my PC media players in 'deinterlace mode' give a normal picture. Actually, even when deinterlace is off, my PC still shows less jagged lines. Surprising, as a PC monitor would normally be worse for watching a film with interlacing issues. Question is, how do i correct the footage so i can watch on a TV? I have video editing softwate like Sony Vegas and also free back up software like Dvdshrink. [Link] |

I have tested on a fairley new Sony Bravia widescreen TV, and a pretty old portable TV. Both dvd players are just a few years old. On my dvd setup menu i found an option that allowed me to select my crappy portable TV as ntsc (even though it's clearly not). This remedied the problem, although fast forwarding the footage results in an unusually jerky and unnaturally distorted picture. I noticed a progressive option in my dvd menu...but it wouldn't allow me to access it. There is something clearly different about this dvd compared with the hundreds of others i have imported from the US. [Link] |
