Seems to be alot more F/F movies around these days than in the past and alot of the females in the industry moving over to it.
I am not complaining love to see hot F/F scenes but a number of the female gender are moving away from M/F scenes and just doing F/F.
When you read throughout this website i guess you can see why with a number of female gender saying they actually get off big time in F/F scenes.
Have watched alot of movies of late of a few new to the industry that started off M/F and looked disinterested, put them in a F/F they get right off.

Be interested to hear others thoughts

Porn movies are usually made for the pleasure of the viewers and not for the actors. Because the purpose of the movie is to sell it and to make money for the producers.
I think there is a limited market for lesbian movies. If porn producers start making more lesbian movies, then their profits will decrease due to too many many movies and not enough customers to buy them.

Well, as long as porn remains profit-based, I think there will be something for everyone. The only limitation will be the size of the customer base. For instance, if you have a "fetish" for something that isn't very common, you probably won't find much.
Lesbian has a large enough customer base to motivate the industry to make plenty of G/G porn. But I wouldn't expect the entire industry to switch over to that because the M/F base is still plenty big.
I think what you're seeing is just more and better lesbian porn being made and it has a higher profile than it used to. Nothing wrong with that.

There is probably a lot more lesbian porn now than in the past and my theory is that some pretty smart people saw that no one was really catering to this type of porn and they decided to take a chance and to start producing only this kind of porn vs other studios that do mostly b/g and will sometime release a g/g movie.
Of course there is a financial advantage to shooting lesbian porn beause It is normally cheaper to shoot lesbian porn since rates for g/g are less than they are for standard b/g. I also think that they hired good directors and they picked girls that were either good at faking or liked to have sex with women. That last one is pretty important because too many gay for pay girls simply can't act like they are enjoying themselves in lesbian porn. My favorite lesbian studio is still Girlfriends Films.

Rates being lower for G/G doesn't mean it is cheaper to shoot G/G than B/G, because female performers generally get paid a lot more than male performers.
So it generally works out more or less like this:
G/G - Both women get $1000 each = $2000 in total for the scene
G/B - She gets $1500 and he gets $500 = $2000 in total for the scene

Sheesh!
I wasn't talking about the entire budget for a scene JackSparrow.

And I was pointing out that that just isn't true. If shooting lesbian porn scenes did work out cheaper on average than other scenes the lower G/G rate paid to the performers wouldn't be the reason. Because women still get paid around twice the rate for G/G scenes that men get for B/G scenes.
And there's two women (at least) to pay.

Some things are happening I'm not a lesbian viewer yet I own some lesbian movies ,both The Interns for example and a couple of Philly they are made well with stars who just know what to do,(Julia Ann and Zoe Voss or India Summer and Dylan Ryan for example) so it is a little interesting even for those who usually do not watch such movies.
But note that Girlfriend is beginning to produce B/G movies such as Voila their first.
So maybe having a new competitor (Philly)other than Triangle Film and giving that one of their main directors (Nica Noelle) is working for AEBN might have reduced their profit and forced them to experiment , although Mile High already has Sweet Sinners and Sweet Sinema lines for featured B/G movies

I can remember years ago Paul Thomas saying it is much easier to shoot g/g porn. No concerns about erections and cum shots make it easier on the director. Could be why the girls get off better in lesbian scenes, just jump in there and they shoot it. On the subject of the popularity of g/g porn, think it has a significant following, but far less than b/g. Just read these pages. The hottest girl in the world can come into the business, but if she doesn't do b/g, many just write her unless she expands to do guys. Look at the discussion of the hottest girls in porn. In reality, it's dominated by lesbian only performers(Bree Daniels, Elle Alexandra, Shyla Jennings, Malena Morgan). But, those names rarely come up in favorite lists. It's, as expected, a b/g dominated industry and highly unlikely to change

Thanks for the insight everyone, when u come from the other side of the world bit hard to know what is going on. Think everyone has raised some very good points
People on here would probably be more in the know than me but seems to be a few moving from m/f to f/f read a reply in star crossed from Jessie Andrews that she is now only doing f/f. (must admit she looks alot more comfortable in doing that and is sensationally hot) Know i have read of a few others
M/F will never go but with the advent of more production companies producing f/f seems to be the current flavour (if I can use that term)

It's really nice of you to thank everyone for their insights lockstock but with all due respect to the previous posters (myself included) I don't think you've had any really insightful replies to your thread yet.
It should be glaringly obvious to anyone who regularly watches lesbian porn movies or just takes an interest in porn in general - but apparently it isn't - that the most significant reason lesbian porn has become so much more prominent and prolific in recent years is....
WOMEN!
Women, getting heavily involved in the production of girl-girl movies. Not just as performers in front of the camera but behind the scenes as well. As directors, writers, producers, editors and camera ops.
And even also.....WOMEN as consumers of porn.
I haven't got time now but I'll come back later and expand upon this subject later.
Meanwhile to anyone who doubts what I say, you should just consider Dan O'Connell and Girlfriends Films (and maybe do a bit of research). There is no way he could have achieved what he has without the involvement of lesbians and genuine bisexual women working on his team. He started the company because an lgbt woman talked him into it.

I think porn, over the past decade at least, has becoming more specialized(in terms of themes of movies) and I think that g/g porn is just catching up more to that trend. From what I remember of porn before that time, many movies had at least one g/g scene in them. Afterwards you could have whole movies, especially in the gonzo genre, that had little to no lez action at all. Now a days, as mentioned, content providers have diversified and are open to serving a wider audience. Tapping into these new markets with a quality product can increase customer loyalty and diversify these companies from others in the hunt for customer dollars. So while I won't say g/g(F/F) is "taking over" the industry(at least not in the way I define it), I do believe it is on the rise, in part due to the factors and trends that I've mentioned. I won't claim to be a porn expert, but this is just my opinion.

I think you're missing a very important point about what I would call "new wave" lesbian porn - that is, the type of girl-girl movies being made by Girlfriends Films, Triangle Films, Sweetheart Video, Girl Candy and a few other studios.
They all place great emphasis on making "sex positive porn" - i.e. porn in which the performers are really into the sex they are having with each other. They all say that the women in their films are not "gay-for-pay" - they are genuinely bisexual or lesbian in real life. They all make lesbian porn which is marketed as "for women". And these producers have all been represented at the Feminist Porn Awards.
To be nominated for a Feminist Porn Award a movie has to meet the following criteria:
1 A woman had a hand in the production, writing, direction, etc. of the work.
2 It depicts genuine female pleasure.
3 It expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film and challenges stereotypes that are often found in mainstream porn.
http://www.goodforher.com/feminist_porn_awards
The cynical might say this is just clever marketing, but I don't agree. I believe all these producers have a genuine commitment to filming real lesbian sex. And real lesbian sex is what their core paying audience (both male and female) really wants to see.
It is also worth noting that the co-owner and sole director of Triangle Films - Kathryn Annelle - is a lesbian. Nica Noelle of Sweetheart and now Girl Candy is a bisexual women (very much so) & they both started out in adult working for Girlfriends Films. Which has always had a policy of employing gay and bisexual women as production staff.

more fun. Besides many porn actors are very ugly, so it distracts from the scene. Rather see 2 girls going at it =)

Not taking over the industry, but holy hell has it gotten better since the early 2000's, with GFF, Sweetheart, Triangle, Kissmegirl, Elegant Angel and Mason's various lesbian movies.
The first one I saw that got me trending in the direction of all of these was Zoe Britton and Anita Dark on a random porn tube site. They had on very pretty gowns and the scene seemed generally romantic. Needless to say, I went and figured out where the hell that movie came from.
A massive step up from the typical 12 minute lesbian scene with the girls already naked, about 10 seconds of foreplay, 11 minutes of using toys on each other, and then another 50 looking into the camera at the end. Fuck off. Thank God I don't have to watch that shit anymore.

Nica has also done movies for Sweet Sinema, I have seen it represented that she was the owner. Of course IAFD has a long list of movies that Nica has directed for Mile High so she could own that I suppose.

Sweet Sinner, Sweetheart Video and Sweet Sinema are all studios Nica Noelle founded with Jonathen Blitt/Mile High Media to produce, write and direct her movies.
Mile High wasn't letting her have enough control, so she split from them and signed a deal with AEBN, with whom she has founded four studios to date. Candy Girl Films (lesbian), Hard Candy Films (straight), TransRomantic Films (TV/TS) & a new studio I don't know the name of for her new venture into gay & bisexual male porn - nothing released yet I think.
Mile High have continued producing new movies with Sweetheart and Sweet Sinner using other directors.
Occasionally Nica Noelle includes girl-girl in her straight movies, and once or twice there's been a boy-girl in her lesbian movies for storyline reasons. The first boy-girl she ever made was in a Sweetheart release called "Angel" (2008). Nica performed in the scene herself with Manuel Ferrara. The movie also features a real life lesbian couple: Alex Mackay and Zoey Stone. Alex plays the title role of Angel.

I'm confused. All of the replies to this thread all seem to be of the same opinion, that the G/G genre is alive and well and in good health. Well, if G/G is so popular why aren't the bigger companies doing more of it? For example you have to go all the way back to march to find the last all girl feature from Wicked 'Kitty club'. If G/G is on the rise, then why is it taking so long to do another one? Hustler's barely legal series nearly always had a girl/girl scene in it. Otto bauer started directing and straight away it was gone, replaced in a few entries by some boring solo scene which nobody cared about, then that too was gone. And what of Digital Playground, the supposed world leader in adult entertainment? 1 scene this year. That was 'Mothers & Daughters' 28 movies ago and counting. To me that's declining rather than rising. I'm not saying G/G is dead, but there is nowhere near enough of it.
Granted, everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but as a G/G fan i am very concerned. Philly films and Viv Thomas are all that's keeping me interested at the moment.

^^^ you make good points, but I still would say its on the rise. When was the last time 3 g/g exclusive models were contrated like Twistys (manwin) did with Emily Addison, Brett Rossi, and Taylor Vixen? I also heard Dani Daniels may have turned down the same contract offer.

Quality is much more important than quantity as far as I'm concerned.
In my opinion girl-girl has been doing well in recent years because there's been a big improvement in quality. And there's been an improvement in quality mainly because of the success of the "sex positive" producers, like the ones I've already mentioned, who have some commitment to making lesbian porn with performers who are genuinely bisexual or even actually lesbians - "Women Who Love Women".
I can see signs that the penny has dropped to some extent with some of the big "mainstream" studios - like Elegant Angel, Wicked, Hustler, New Sensations and Vivid now - that if they are going to make all girl lesbian features that compete with the likes of Girlfriends and Nica Noelle, then it's a good idea to cast the girls who actually enjoy having sex with girls.
A lot of the bisexual women in the industry have made statements to the effect that they don't like doing scenes with gay-for pay girls. Although some. for example Georgia Jones, see a G4P girl as a challenge and will do their very best to make her have a real orgasm - which can sometimes make for an extra hot scene.
For this reason I really don't want to see F/F "taking over" the industry. I want to see better lesbian porn featuring women who love women. If F/F did literally take over then *F/F" would stand for fake/fake most of the time. And there's far too much boring G/G around already where the girls obviously aren't really into it.

In my opinion g/g porn is at that crucial point where it's easy for both directors and performers to default into a routine, the choreography we know so well, and almost go on autopilot. I've become more vigilant than ever about pushing the girls to go deeper inside themselves and their sexuality and break out of the routine. I've turned my primary focus back to my g/g studio (Girl Candy Films) because frankly I see the whole genre getting lazier and yes, faker. Small, independent studios like Twilight Women are the ones to watch for inspiration right now.

I like it when the girls can be themselves and do what feels good and not have to worry about if some body part is getting covered up and not have to worry about the camera.

Pretty much this.
Its obvious that F/F, although popular, is still not big enough (nor will it ever be) to "take over" anything. There is just not enough interest in it for it to dominate the industry. F/M has broader appeal for obvious reasons.
Although I'm sure a straight girl who really makes an effort can produce a great scene, in most cases she doesn't. I hope the trend of more "dedicated" lesbian porn continues. I'd love to see more features, and more scenes with more spontaneity and more talk/humor/cuddling. What's hotter than two women having sex? Two women with a crush/in love/lusting for each other.
