If it's a big deal I can get a server certificate for the forum. There's an annual fee involved. Does https bypass the filtering they are implementing down there?

People will need to use a proxy host outside of Australia if they want to get around the URL filter. I expect the free proxy services are going to see a lot of new business soon. The main benefit of https for your forum posters would be that if they read or write anything controversial in a post, such as criticism of their government, their ISP would not be able to read the words and associate them personally with that specific post. It would also prevent local ISPs from matching forum user names to real names and street addresses. It would only be useful if every page was encrypted in both directions. I guess that would be an unacceptable overhead for your servers. From my point of view its more of a "nice to have" feature than a "big deal". [Link] |
