What are you talking about? How does not being ashamed of being a porn fan amongst other adults equate to bringing up porn talk to your 14 year old niece?I don't. The title of the tread is "Is it so wrong to be a porn fan?". My answer is no and in addition to that, people should not feel like they've done something horrible if other people know they're porn fans. Not necessarily to have prolonged sexual conversations. For instance, it somehow gets out that you have a porn collection. Just assume for the sake of argument it gets out somehow. It is childish and stupid for your family and/or acquaintances to act like you've done something terrible or there's something wrong with you. This is what this thread is generally about. About how Americans are generally idiots and hypocrites when it comes to this kind of thing. Nobody said anything about your 14 year old niece except for you. NOW - Quoted below is the entire first response I made to you in this thread. Perhaps you could tell me how we got on the subject of your 14 year old niece from here?

^Don't know whether the thread is getting de-railed or not, but it's a good read. Normally I find RP's straight-up hard-assed-ness a bit challenging, and try to stay out of his way (wimp that I am), but I'm totally agreeing with him. I can only hope RF (who I generally agree with) is over-egging the hyperbole in the spirit of devil's advocacy, otherwise it's just some sort of self-love literary blah...

@ BlackSix That kind of of fun always has a price? Seriously? Are you a Calvinist or something? You must be a blast at parties. Never been called that before lol. I’m just saying, from my own point of view porn has cost me time and money that could have been used elsewhere. As many other things do I guess but porn isn’t really necessary, its just there but the fun factor makes it hard to resist if your inclined to use it, which I am, I know people that don’t get anything out of it at all. @ RandomPrecision Sometimes honesty isn't the best policy. I guess not when it interferes with other peoples views. Its just my opinion, I’m not saying porn is a bad thing but I’m not saying its healthy either. I’m not saying people should be strung up for using it as I’d be hanging from a branch right now. Frankly, if porn on the internet destroys civilization as we know it, I won't shed too many tears. But that's silly, overly dramatic nonsense. It's not that big of a deal. I think civilization will find another means to destroy itself, I’m not saying porn will do that job! I’m just comparing access to porn now to the way it way a while ago. It is obviously down to the individual but all I’m saying is the ease of access can be unhealthy to some. This has been covered so many times it's not worth saying more than a few words. Basically, the concept of "porn addiction" is moronic pop psychology and was very likely fabricated by the anti-porners. I’m not anti porn, I’m just not like you guys saying it’s a great thing for man kind. In terms of addiction I didn’t suggest going down that road to explaining the ins and outs, I’m saying people get addicted, that’s just my opinion. You have a time management and an impulse control problem. Not a porn problem. your not wrong there, that’s why I gotta kick porn as it really is an un necessary pleasure. For me personally porn is a negative, im not saying it is for you, I’m sure you manage it to your own needs. I’m really basing these comments on my own feelings right now, I’m not attacking other peoples use of it. Oh yeah? How many people do you know who've gotten STDs or child support obligations from masturbating? lol maybe porn will be the end of civilisation then! I know your point but is porn really a healthy alternative to other deeper issues in society. The real world rarely lives up to our expectations. Why should sex be any different? Young men always expected girls to do the freaky shit. Even before porn (as we know it) existed. When you start to grow up, you come into the world with a lot of unrealistic expectations. You live and you learn. If you don't learn, you land on your face and if you ever get back up, maybe you finally learned. good point. But I’m betting guys expect girls to do a lot more freaky shit than in the past. Not that it matters, my point was that it might make younger more naïve guys think all girls do that that stuff, I guess that is their own fault, I just feel sorry for the girls that have to deal with the illusion that they are little sluts up for anything. Kids aren't supposed to be watching porn. It may be easy to access but you can't blame porn for the fact that most people are shitty parents. Blame them for being shitty parents. Putting a computer in a kid's room or leaving them unsupervised on the internet for long periods of time is the equivalent of dropping your kid off at a bar at 10 PM on a Friday night and telling them to have fun. When they get into things that are inappropriate for their age (and they will) it's your own damn fault. are you serious? Kids are not supposed to but they will. My parents were great but I would have had a ball at 12 or 13. When you’re a kid you always find a way, whether its sneaking to the post office stealing magazines or waiting up late to see a racy flick. If I had internet access I’d have been knee deep in the shit at a very young age. Most parents don’t know dick about inter, most kids know a shit load and often have their own laptops. All I’m saying is internet makes it a lot easier for kids to access porn at a young age, that’s not a good thing. Some it might effect, some not I guess. Everything has a price. Every breath you take costs you something. Good thing, bad thing. Whatever. I just get tired of people going out of their way to find every microscopic negative aspect of porn and magnify it to larger than life proportions to suit their own personal prejudices on the matter. like I said, I’m not attacking porn, I’m just saying it can have negatives, ive loved porn big time but it needs control, which a lot of people find difficult. Yeah its their fault not the porn industries, but it does tap into the sex drive, choosing porn can be easier than choosing life sometimes.

My last two girlfriends didn't watch much porn at all but did things that I haven't seen in mainstream porn! I'll leave it at that. You can't see how porn is healthy. Well...hmmmm, do you drink? Have you ever stuck a quarter in a slot machine? I mean anything can be unhealthy if you allow it to be, or if you have an addictive personality. I don't like torture or sadistic horror films but there's no correlation to those films and people actually performing violent acts on people. Maybe 1 case in 100,000 if that? Some of my favorite films are Mafia films but I have no interest in that life. You see where I'm getting at?
Just like with most things, porn has its good bits and bad. Different people will react differently to porn. Some will abuse it, some will use it “sensibly” and some will be turned off by it. Just like virtually every other form of vice, porn is a VERY complex subject and making sweeping generalizations about porn is totally counterproductive. My own point of view? Thanks to the Internet, I believe that I have been spoilt due to all this free porn and, for me at least, it’s true what they say… “Too much of a good thing…” I entered the porn game relatively “late”; about 19/20 years of age. Sure, I’d seen the odd film or magazine once in a while, but I never collected or bought any porn up until then. Strangely enough, I was actually dating a really dirty girl at the time who was bisexual and into anal. So, why on Earth, when I was getting all the dirty sex I could handle, I decided to buy my first dirty magazine one fateful day I’ll never know. Perhaps my sexuality was “heightened” due to my relationship to this girl (who, incidentally, was also a feminist LOL!), but I’ve always considered myself to be a bit of a dirty bastard anyway. Well… To cut a VERY long story short, shortly after the magazines came VHS and, back then in London Soho, these vids could easily set you back £20-£30 each. I must have spent at least £1000 or more on those damn things. So I think by then I was already obsessed. But now, thanks to the Internet, I have literally downloaded terabytes upon terabytes of free porn. Don’t get me wrong. I love women. I really dig their bodies, especially their assholes (yes I have an anal fetish) and part of me thinks that porn is simply a safe way to alleviate my hyper sexuality. But, I’d have to admit, my interest in getting engaged with a full on relationship with women, with all the usual ups and downs that relationships these days endure, has most definitely waned now that I’m just shy of 40 with no kids to mention of. And I do wonder if jerking off solely to porn has now become my future. No… Saying porn is good or bad is too simplistic. Porn should be compared to, say, marijuana, in that in moderation it’s probably quite harmless but always runs the risk of being abused. Porn is a drug. I mean, it is as addictive as a drug. It stimulates your dopamine centers just like a drug. And I am a huge fan of porn. I am also a huge fan of drugs. But everything in moderation. Don't be a rat pushing on a lever. Sometimes I feel that I am a rat. But it's hard.

I think as a country we send mixed messages involving sexuality. We advertise with sex, show it on television, and in movies. But when it comes to real sex, like porn or personal choice, we still have people deeply embarrassed about the subject. Some people are too shy to talk to a girl let alone ask them if they like anal sex or creampies, and I mean in good time like relationship status, not just some random girl. I think having an intrest in sex and ur own sexuality is perfectly healthy, and if porn is the tool u use to explore this facet of ur personality, than feel free. As far as addiction goes, we are talking about porn not crack. People with addictions have problems with self control. Like the post above states, everything in moderation. I'm totally good with spending 15 to 20 mins of my day watching a porn and beating one out. Ok sometimes twice, but seriously, people mired in a porn addiction most likely have other problems, like failing relationships, depression, or just plain boredom. As far as young teen boys being dissapointed by their first real expierence with a girl cuz they have been watching cumshitting or a jay sin movie, well to be honest, most early sexual expieriences suck as a whole. And just cuz you have seen it in porn, dosent mean u haven't thought about it before. I remember being 11, and already thinking about things like girls tied up, lesbian sex, and anal without ever seeing them. The mind is the most sexual of all organs and I think most people know, even teens, that porn is not the norm as far as the fetishpart or the quality of sex in general. Most girls have never come close to being fucked once as good as most porn starlets have. My advice...find a girl who does what u like. It isn't as rare as one thinks, especially the younger crowd 18-30. Porn is a niche market featuring people doing what they like to do in a safe controled enviorment unlike the numerous sluts who work bar after bar every weekend looking for a piece of dick or vice versa meaning a guy looking for gash. Those unsafe behaviors, which lead to stds, rapes, and overall regretable alcohol induced choices, are not shown in porn, but are weekly brought right to your television on teen oriented channels and shows. Jersey Shore, Bad Girls Club, Rehab at the Hard Rock, all these shows exhibit real life choices and lay out blue prints of how u should behave. Porn is not the problem. Sorry for the rambling.

@ ManLondon A lot of what you said there rings true for me. I’ve always been into porn to an extend but since the internet I have taken full advantage, it was so much easier to do in moderation when the temptation is not continually there. I know what you mean about wondering why you need it if you have a girl that is willing to do freaky stuff. I have had times when I’d choose porn over sex, I never really saw it as a bad thing, I was more about the mood I was in. The thing I love about porn is the total control, when I want more intimacy its different, my minds not on porn at all. I’m around that age as well, where it seems like a good idea to be thinking about getting into a serious relationships, I’m getting too old for this shit now, it just wastes time. The way I see it is I’d rather be using porn as an old guy when I cant pull anymore, then I can be a retired old wanker! so for me porn has had its good and bad points but i wonder if my life would be more productive without it at this point, as mentioned above, to some it can be destructive
I guess I just see it differently than you do rski. To me, owning porn is really no different then owning the many upon many mainstream dvd's or cd's I have. Society, IMO, just views them differently, when they really aren't. Porn is still a taboo subject it seems, even after all this time and exposure...no pun intended.

@ Aplus A porn collection to me is a distraction so I guess we do see it a bit differently. I envy the fact you can use it the same as any other form of entertainment. I myself turn it into a habit. When I want to lay off a bit I don’t keep a collection around. Its definitely still taboo, no question. I wouldn’t want my family to know I’m into it for example. Its like a hidden thing no one admits to doing, the fact is a lot of people still get embarrassed that they use it. Theres the perversion taboo and the myth that only nerds that cant get girls use it, which is obviously rubbish. I don’t want to come across as saying porn is bad btw. I got a hell of a lot of enjoyment out of it! Problem is it can have negatives as well, as mentioned above, so have many other vices, I put porn up with them
^ There are a lot of distractions in my life, lots of things that waste my time. Perhaps because it's porn you might see it as a "bad" distraction? (Not to undermine your own perspective -- you clearly feel porn has become more than a "distraction" for you). Also, I notice that a lot of people have taken to saying they "use" pornography rather than watch it. Anti-porn folks use that phrase a lot, and I think it gives porn-watching a very different character. I never think of watching porn as "using" it.
Good catch. I noticed that too. I just wanted to see if anyone else caught it before I said anything. You probably said it better than I could have using far fewer words.
Thank you. I noticed that too. I really don't get that statement at all. Speaking for myself, I don't USE porn, I WATCH Porn. A poster previously said that porn is mostly a masturbation aid, whether most people care to admit it or not. Do people USE porn as a masturbation or marital aid? Sure. So then I guess yes, porn can be USED, but some just enjoy watching it for various reasons.
The only guys you talk to porn about are the same guys you talk to about you sex life (e.g. dude I picked up this chick last night at the bar and banged her good). There are "friends" and then there are "BFFs".
^ No need to be sorry, if that's how you see your manner of consumption. All media and entertainment is "used" to some degree, I just think people single out porn as being "used" because they like to frame it as a fix, or a drug, or some other utilitarian junk.
Well that was never "my" intention Gore, Gore, Girl. If anything, I just misspoke. I really think porn is somehow held to a different standard. Certainly different than those to sit in front of a computer screen for hours and hours, and somehow different from those who plays Playstation all day. I could really go on and on. Cellphones? Any vice or joy can be overdone, but porn is somehow the only one deemed wrong or unhealthy.
Maybe that's where communications break down. I have more porn than I'll ever have time (or motivation) to actually "get off" to it. Sometimes I just look at a few pictures of naked women because it's nice scenery. To me, it's like looking at pictures of mountains or other landscapes or whatever kinds of pictures people might look at just to be looking. Some people walk over to their window and look at the million dollar view they worked half their life to buy. When I get that itch, I scratch it by looking at pictures of naked women. Is it so different that some people just can't wrap their minds around it? It's funny how "admiring the view" takes on a completely different meaning depending on what kind of window you're viewing it through and what's going on in your mind at the moment.
Is there a limit to how big of a porn fan one can be before it goes wrong? If someone seems to have no other hobbies or leisure activities besides porn, does that person have a problem? The average American watches 20 hours of television per week. If someone watches more than 20 hours of porn per week, maybe even 30 hours per week, would you find that troubling? Is there a certain dollar amount where you think someone spending more than that on porn is a bit wacko?
I bet i can beat your gay cousin LOL i have thousands of DVDs and i just started to burn & plus i still buy (not to mention the vhs tapes that i want to convert to dvd) so that's more, i'm an addict but i'm ok with it & that's my BIGGEST fear i don't want my family to see my extensive collection, i've asked my partner to come in and remove my collection, i was thinking of adding it as a provision in my will.
I can't recall ever meeting an admitted porn fan, so my first impression would be of an honest, very open individual, secure enough about their own sexuality as to have no reservations in revealing it. If the individual then began describing the finer details of the latest cumfart cocktails episode, well, that of course would be a different matter. We'd have virtually ENDLESS things to talk about!! Edited by - Endless Loop on 12/26/2010 7:04:31 AM
I wish I could remember which long-time industry veteran wrote a long essay a few years back arguing that porn is a disposable product. He was the first who I ever read/heard refer to porn consumption as "porn use". He felt that the largest amount of porn that is viewed is watched with a goal in mind - ejaculation...and once that goal is achieved, the product is trashed. Sure, there are porn fans like us on this forum, but my guess is a very large percentage of porn consumers fall in under the "user" description.
Of course not. It's human nature to want to look at images of nude bodies and people fucking. The BBC ran a terrific series on the history of pornography dating all the way back to the ancient world. In Pompei, for instance, archeologists discovered all manner of sexually explicit frescoes on the walls of people's homes. We Americans in general just have an unhealthy attitude towards sex and the body, and our attitude towards porn reflects that.

me and my gf lovin watchin chicks get airtighted by black dudes. It rules. And I like to watch porn for more than just beating it. I like to watch girls bodies and people fuck. While it usually leads to me beating it, sometimes I watch just to watch u know?
Hell no but if your more into porn than other things in your life you should be worrying about then yes Watching for 30min & downloading every day is just fine

Hey Fuji I'm fucking standing here. I'm standing right fucking here. Can't you find something else as disgusting to you as an airtight with Black guys to drive your point. Damn how about a little common courtesy. Were you raised by wolves?
LMAO and Ouch all at the same time, but mainly LMAO. You're missing my point. The response I made was in reference to whomever (I forget at this point, and too lazy to go back and look) made the point that they felt porn should be an acceptable workplace conversation piece and that people all need to lighten up. If you do a search on ADT at the number of reviews I've done, 300+ at this point, you'll find certain trends/genres that I review. As mentioned in other threads, reviewers tend to review genres that they like. I've reviewed roughly 50 I/R releases. Take one guess why? Is it because it's disgusting to me? Or is it because I like watching young white girls have sex with 2 or 3 or 5 black guys? The main things I complain about in my reviews regarding black guys is when the black guys are; not really black but only partial to the point of looking suntanned, and secondly when they are so street corner ghetto thuggish types that can't put two words together without saying, "Dat" & "git" and any other ebonics type of jargon. Anyway, back to my point, I wasn't being disgusting in that example because if I were, I'd have used the prolasping pink sock reference from that thread. I was using a relevant example of conceivably what type of porn I watched the night before that the young girl at work reminded me of. I find it amusing that you didn't have any problem with me being pervy talking to an 18 year old girl about porn or offering to show her the said porn, or the fact that the father blew my head off with a shotgun when I told him to lighten up about me talking to his kid about porn. So lecherous behavior with violent reprecussions is okay as long as it doesn't involve I/R porn? Is that what you're saying? Apology accepted.
nothing wrong with being a porn fan. no fun getting off without it is really just a tool for me also so cant really compare it to mainstream movies/tv or sports i follow but similaritys are there when it comes to playstation.. can't go racing a lamborghini up the coast in real life but new need for speed is next best thing, never had a girlfriend that would let me pound her ass and cum in it but i can get off watch while watching amy brooke/aleska diamond do it -my game collection consists of mainly 4 genres- fps/3rd person, sport, racing and rpg -porn collection is girls mainly in 4 sex acts- solo, lez, anal and dp
If loving porn is wrong, I don't want to be right. I love porn. I don't shout that off of my rooftop, and I can't really talk about it in my social circles. So I come here to ADT and I can talk about porn like any other collector of anything else. Many people think it's wrong, or pretend to think it's wrong, or plead the 5th. So talking about it in public can bring a variety of reactions.

There is a definite stigma for guys to bring it up, in any context
^But no stigma in the ADT context. I have been 'consuming' porn for 35 years and have never had a conversation with anyone about it, except brief 'discussions' with a couple of ex-girlfriends who weren't impressed. 'Western society' maybe highly sexualized, with some fashion trends almost appearing to be wannabe porn star, sex imagery tagged on to much visual media, celebrity gossip revolving around who's 'doing it' with who, etc. but, ultimately, porn itself is not dealt with maturely. The discussion between R Fuji and R Precision, earlier, traversed the issues of the way perhaps porn should be incorporated into social interactions ('lightening up'), whereas the realities of social discourse prevent this being the case, and, since there are a multiplicity of acceptable modes of interacting with different people (including the archetypal 12 year old girl) in different contexts, the idealistic notion of just 'putting it (porn) out there' isn't really tenable. There is also the discussion as to whether porn consumption is an aesthetic activity ('watching' for pleasure albeit with a subtext of sexual arousal) or utilitarian ('using' porn to achieve orgasm). Finally there is also the self-centered discussion: does porn negatively affect interpersonal relationships with significant others? are there negative psychological/physical consequences from consuming 'too much' porn? what is the opportunity cost of porn consumption, both in economic terms and in terms of the time spent porning instead of doing something else 'more productive'? All valid questions, which I've asked myself on occasions. For myself, there is nothing wrong in being a porn fan! Having said that, membership of ADT has certainly made me feel more confident about making such a claim - and only in this forum, mind you...
Well, yeah. Anonymity is one of the great advantages to the 'net. I mean a guy can go into any sports bar and immediately strike up a conversation about football. Porn? Not quite that easy. I mean, even in the video store, have you ever talked with another guy who's browsing? I would wager most guys always avoid any sort of eye contact whatsoever. It's a (usually) solitary thing. Solitary and personal, that's all there is to it. Edited by - zarinafan on 1/12/2011 6:40:09 PM

In response to the original title, I think the drug analogy is pretty accurate. If you tell your friends, who are in their 20s or 30s, in some liberal, big city that you smoke weed or watch porn, chances are most of them will be like "me, too!" Try that in a conservative red state small town with some older folks. . . it probably won't go over so well.

The same could be said about traveling on a bus or train. Strangers in most contexts, don't talk to each other anyway. Personally, I've chatted to the staff of porn video stores the same as I would have done anywhere else (i.e. another retail environment). I like porn and have a working sex drive. I'm not embarrassed about that. [Edit: Typo] Edited by - Dubious_Leftovers on 1/12/2011 11:59:53 AM
All men watch porn but in my experience only few admit it or even admit enjoying it because they feel that this would make them appear unmanly in the sense of not being able to pick up enough women to satisfy their needs.
I went to a strip club with some of my good friends last night and attached was an adult boutique. We spent a fair amount of time exploring their DVD collection, and though I didn't let on that I owned over 100 movies I made mention of knowing the titles/stars/production companies. I described scenes in The Big Lebowski XXX parody and they expressed interest in watching it themselves. I told them Tori Black was my favorite star, not that I buy almost any movie she's in, and that Jenna Haze is an "arguably the best performer, and a fantastic director." They didn't seem to mind, though they had nothing to add except that "Pirates II was better than the first."
What's wrong with being a fan boy? To have favourite starlets and to look forward to their new releases is a problem? I realise that stalking is strange, obsessive and illegal but all things in moderation!
I have a few friends married and single where the topic of porn or your porn collection gets brought up. Married friends will joke well the wife will be out of town this weekend so at least I wont have to hide the porn on my computer this weekend. I do have a couple of friends where we have conversations about our favorite porn actresses but that is the extent of it. I don't think it is wrong to be a porn fan just don't let it become an addiction.
